Nothing new, but here is a pre-print (currently undergoing peer-review) meta-analysis of peer-reviewed literature about COVID's infection lethality rate.
Median global IFR from all 32 studies is 0.24%, median local IFR is 0.10% in areas that aren't epicenters, median IFR for those of us under 70y 0.05%

Um feelings are more important than facts, do you not realize that? God, next you'll be telling us that gender dysphoria is a mental disorder and not a beautiful expression of the soul trapped in a white patriarchal and systematically sexist/racist/xenophobic society.

It's a shitshow for business schools right now. Many of them are declaring 100% virtual semesters after people already uprooted their stuff, moved in and quit their jobs. Best part is they are refusing to reduce tuition. For reference, the cost of a Harvard MBA adds up to $213,600.

Meanwhile, as noted in another thread, the small businesses which crop up around college campuses (coffee shops, bars, restaurants, book stores, etc.) are about to get fucked by less students around.

Has there been a single post-secondary institution that's lowered their tuition?

- Nurse buddy is frantically trying to stop friends from attending services at the megachurch. He (via his wife-that-I-hang-out-with) says the hospital is not as stressed as it was a couple weeks ago but they're still busy and something Newsom did has forced him to take a $1000/wk pay cut. I asked why my cousin in the midwest is safe to go to church, but we're not and wife says the nurses across the US have a private chat group and are discussing this. Their consensus is that they have identified many strains of Covid and they're different in different parts of the country. Some kill fast and some kill slow and some don't even make you sick. We've got two bad ones here - Strains number 1 and 15 or something.

No idea about the specifics, but we already knew there were 3 major strains and each one had dozens of substrains.

Hint: That means there won't be a vaccine.

I know it's supposed to be a joke to expose the hypocrisy ... But I'm just too angry to laugh right now.
I figured you might as well laugh about it because the mainstream left does not give one fucking damn about fairness. That's why you can't argue with most of them and why you can't try to shame them into doing something by dropping a pile of hypocrisy on the table. They don't give a shit, and half of them probably get off on the power anyways. One of the biggest weaknesses in the Conservative argument is the plea for fairness, because Conservatives will go out of their way to try and level the playing field for damn near anyone, but whenever they ask for the same it's met with ridicule or outright dismissal.

It's an absolutely dead argument and it needs to be thrown out the window if you're dealing with someone so stubbornly partisan that they'll take any information that you give them, ignore it, and continue on with their circular arguments ad nauseam until those goalposts are shoved up the tailpipes of the goddamned Hubble. Hell it even happens on the Farms on a routine basis. There are several users that I've had the exact, same argument with a half-dozen times over, and then a few days go by and they're back to square one.

They absorbed no information, they listened to none of the arguments, they took absolutely no counsel because they want to sit on their angry throne and be angry, and no amount of reassurances or rebuttals can pull their asses off the chair. They just want to sit there and yell about kids in cages, Russian collusion, pee-pee tapes and tax returns, so just let them shit themselves, it's a complete waste of breath to deal with someone like that.

The silver lining is that most people are not like this. Most people are not rabidly devoted to politics in either direction and generally just want to be left the fuck out of politics altogether, and they're all sitting at home right now under the thumb of whatever local asshole has mandated they're not even allowed to so much as go outside and garden or go and hang out with their friends, or even visit family members who are in the hospital, and they're watching all of these people waltz around on TV and do whatever the Hell they please, never bothering to wear a mask and never bothering to adhere to any concept of social distancing.

Most people are interested in fairness, and what they're seeing isn't fair. There's a rage building up across the country, and we're going to see it manifest three months from now.

As an aside, here's how you get rid of the woke bullshit Youtube recommendations.

Just "don't recommend this channel" to all or most of them. Once you refresh they stop trying to force the featured category on you.

Shit, I wish. I just dropped going to school completely. I was supposed to be going back for a 2 year horticulture program at my local agricultural/tech school. The course is like 80% hands on outside, 10% field trips and 10% book work/classroom study. This school somehow managed to scam people into taking the 10% book work/class work part online for the same price as the full degree even though you’re getting screwed out of the other 90% of your education. I finally said fuck it, I’ll just watch YouTube videos and teach myself for free. I’m not taking out student loans to get cucked out of nearly an entire 2 years of my life. I hope the school goes bankrupt.

Honestly, if I were undergrad or even grad right now, I'd take a gap year. There's just no point in wasting energy and money (even scholarship money) on an education you can't fully take advantage of, because if colleges and schools were meant to be "distance learning," only, they would be. Same with K-12. We are unfortunately going to see a lot of kids backslide and fail to graduate in time due to the COVID nonsense. I foresee a lot of homeschooling horrorshows, too.

this made me lol:

I received a letter from my trade school that I'm starting up soon. They may extend the apprenticeship program to 6 years due to not being able to fill the hours all because of this stupid lockdown bullshit. Furthermore, you will be kicked from the school for refusing to wear a mask, half of the classes will be on zoom (which I can already see being a damn disaster), and some of the 5th years I know just got blueballed hard, being denied that sweet graduation they were looking forward to in their 5th year. Fuck this lockdown. 6 years to get a journeyman license when you could probably do it in 3? Seriously?
Another thing, fuck this extended mask order. Our governor has decided to draw it out until the end of AUGUST.

You don't understand how Colleges work these days do you?

Instead of looking at the value of what they provide and setting a fair price based on that value...They hike up the tuition by 30% so that The Dean can donate 15% of it to Joe Biden's campaign and pocket the rest.

I'm a university grad, I know how things work. I was just wondering if there was any school out there crazy enough to do that.
