Was talking to an ex colleague who now works for a big clinical services company. Global, tens of thousands of employees, based in USA. They’ve been saying all the right things about diversity - but she noted the following:
1. That the diversity chat was very much NOT mentioning BLM but sticking to the company line of being decent to each other and not tolerating discrimination, and of meritocracy. No support for BLM was mooted at all, even though the anti racism buzzwords were used
2. The unconscious bias training was instituted with all the right loud fanfare but it was actually fairly reasonable (one in-passing mention of gender/race and the rest focusing on things like not basing the appraisal of employees on a single event.) no guilt, she was surprised - note this company employs people globally and places like Russia, Israel and China don’t like the bullshit.
3. The whole spiel looks like lip service to placate a very small but loud LGBT group within the company but is in reality a bunch of nothing, while they just get on with making fucktons of money. They’re a global outfit and so have always been quite tight on discrimination.
Was interesting to hear. The corporates are interested in money and power, they dgaf about all this and they will drop it the second it stops being trendy, or starts losing them good staff, or negative publicity. The troublemakers amd dangerhairs will be quietly managed out

My company did donate to BLM and sent out communications in support of the movement. I am cautiously optimistic, but I think the tide is turning for our executives. The most recent communication from HR, which had been listing reading recommendations, mysteriously contained zero social justice readings after they were being slammed down our throats for months.
