Woman is a protected class, and protected classes are exclusive by nature. A person can choose to waive the protections granted to them, ad hoc or modify the circumstances of their protected status. As an example, a person with a disability might choose to reject accommodations in a specific circumstance, or might pursue medical treatments that change or void their need to receive accommodations. It's a reasonable comparison to say that FtM require protections for their trans status, but not for their female status since they have revoked those protections.

It's not really important whether you can actually change sex, it's about the fundamental purpose of protected spaces.

That doesn't work, because of all the screaming about "transwomen are real women". You might be able to kick FTMs out, but then you open yourself up for MTFs trying to barge in saying they're True and Hones Women.

I don’t understand why conservatives allow this in other countries. Hasn’t the Conservative party been in control of UK for quite a while? Yet there is constant troon enabling there.

I mentioned about a year ago in this thread that at my alma mater, misgendering can trigger a title IX investigation. I know for a fact I would have been fired from my on-campus position for saying trans women are literally not women, and I wouldn't have been able to walk at graduation.

In this case, pointing out troons are trying to rewrite/ignore the biological meaning of sex results in cries of "why are you being so mean to innocent transgender people?!". After all, plenty of people have problems with trying to ignore biology, but very few people think being mean to other people is a good thing.

Conservatives are largely under the impression (like the general public largely is as well) that troons are all homosexual, so they support them because it means that all those icky nasty gays are just straight people "trapped in the wrong body", and letting them transition theoretically means that their relationships will at least appear straight.

IOW transgenderism allows conservatives to pretend that gay trans people are just "broken" straight people and they support transition because it allows the gays to live their "true lives" as defective heteros.

Incidentally I'm in the UK, where misgendering is a crime on par with human trafficking and yet the Conservative govt have been clarifying the Equality Act as regards womens' and transgender rights, literally murdering trannies with logic and reason. Hate speech laws will always be embarassing here, but as long as you're not impolite we seem to be tempering some of the excesses, very slowly and quietly.

Conservatives aren't fighting any harder against trannies than they are against gays because they know they've already lost in the court of public opinion when it comes to any LGBT issue. The only ones who are still going hard at it are the bible-thumpers who were elected by bible-thumping constituencies. Anyone who has to appeal to a moderate constituency knows that the moment they try to push back in any way, they'll get showered in accusations of -ism and -phobia that the public is being conditioned to consider worse than murder accusations.

It's political expediency. The public mood is just not right for anyone to publicly push against troons. Not yet, anyway. Public opinion swings very quickly these days...

I don't really agree, and I don't think I'm reading into it at all. Iran is an overwhelmingly conservative country that mandates transition for homosexuals - and if the gay/lesbian refuses to do it, the state murders them. A massive number of the parents transing their kids are conservative as hell and many if not most will openly admit that they "were afraid (kid) was gay" but are oh so very happy they're a "straight trans" kid. There's also a fairly sizable population of ftms who all have the same story: They came out to their conservative families as lesbians and suffered rejection and abuse, but when they came out as "straight transmen" they were accepted and celebrated. The trends are very, very obvious.

Also, seriously, where do you live that conservatives don't care about gays anymore? Just because they're not trying to get anti-sodomy laws put back on the books doesn't mean that they don't hate gays and lesbians still.

That's kind of the scary thing, the TRA crowd being seen as analogous with other LGB people in regards to political opinion. Once the TRAs push too hard and everyone's peaked all at once, who's to say actual normal gay people aren't going to be targeted because they're "associated" with TRAs?
