I miss Oldcrons. They were tragic beings trapped in a Faustian bargain. Newcrons are just, like, conquistadors or something. Now that they no longer hate and envy all life, they're actually much less evil than the Imperium.
Same. I stopped checking them out the moment they ditched the C'Tan. The idea that they overthrew them was acceptable to start, but they've turned into something that's far and away different from what they originally were. The idea of them valuing life is anathema to that original vision.
I get it - the Oldcrons had no true personality beyond the C'Tan, and their overreliance on them would have you think maybe they should be renamed to C'Tan's Bitches, but they were sinister and threatening. Part of that came from them being silent, now they're just dumb, metal bureaucrats by comparison. Previously they left dead, barren worlds behind in a similar vein to Tyranids; now all the art I see just involves big empires of green light, devoid of that emptiness.
If there were to be a revision of the Necron mythos, I would have kept them under the C'Tan's control, but in the interest of claiming more life force they surrender some of the mental enslavement on Necron individuals to more efficiently field an army. As it is now, the usurping nature of the Newcrons only downplays the C'Tan as far as I'm concerned. I don't care what the Void Dragon does anymore - they got their asses kicked to the kerb, so clearly they're not powerful enough to cause worry.
