Kalvin Garrah suggested this comes from an excessively high dose of testosterone. I agree that there’s a distinct FTM voice that is also different from a woman’s deep natural voice or what you would get if you used software to pitch a woman’s voice down.

PL but this is it. High dose taken suddenly (ie not going from a starting low dose and gradually increasing) is what causes the squeaky FTM voice. IIRC it's due in part to the fact that the female larynx is smaller, and laryngeal cartilage ossification that occurs during puberty and further limits vocal chords lengthening on T. Damaging vocal chords by trying to force your voice deeper also contributes, as well as speaking from the nose instead of the chest (which women naturally do). Because women typically do not have high exposure to T the voice sounds unnatural compared to a deeper cis woman, and nasally compared to a cis man.

I couldn't find a concise video (weak google-fu) but for example, if you talk with your chest you can feel vibrations if you put your hand on your chest, vs using your head voice, it will vibrate your nose/throat (I'm probably not explaining this well). It's what gives voices certain resonances and, usually most pertinent to singers, gives a different sound (chest = more bassy, deeper, richer; head = lighter, clearer). Men usually speak with their chest, but women tend to speak from their head. Sorry for TMI, but thought it was an interesting part of why troons sound so unnatural since most people recognize it naturally but may not know the intimate details.

It's not just a UK thing. I mentioned this earlier, but black people are less likely to support the idea that a person can change their sex than whites. 24% of white Democrats think a person’s gender is determined by their sex assigned at birth, while 55% of black Democrats do. I get where they're coming from; if I was a black woman and people were constantly comparing me to squawking white men in programming socks, I wouldn't be pleased either.

If you're interested in this sort of thing, the term you want is "trans widows". The Britbong hive of terfery mumsnet has several threads of eye-witness accounts on its infamous feminist chat forum, and they are very detailed. IIRC they have worked out the signs and stages of AGP trooning and also plans for getting your shit together to get out.

Their stories are universally horrifying. On the therapist thing, they report being berated for not supporting their "stunning and brave" husband "living his truth", bullied for not being more helpful while he spends all the family money on frilly panties and ignores his children, and accused of phobias and bigotry while the husband barges into their friend group demanding to be included in all activities with the "girls" and cuts off all their IRL support.
