I think the minis are always re-released later on, aren't they? Usually in better multipart kits.

It depends. Maybe it's because it's too recent but none of the two minis people care about in the Prophecy of the Wolf box are out. The Primaris Captain in Gravis Armour from the 8th edition starter set isn't out either.

I'm sure they will be. GW already confirmed this is a limited-run set, so we're most likely going to see them broken up into unit boxes later on.

Yeah it's a single print run. All there will be currently exist. So we have a new Starter Set to see soon(hopefully not Ultrasmurfs :optimistic:)

It's still probably a good value if you really like a side of it and can find someone to split it with, but if you want specifics out of it, or more options on how to build it, than yeah probably should wait. The Captain, Lieutenant, Chaplain, and Judicar will all probably be $30 on their own, the Intercessors, and Blade Guard $35, and the bikes and Eradicators $40. So that's $270 for the Space Marine side alone.

I am waivering on the edge of getting into the hobby, but I'll probably wait and see how the 9th Edition Starter box looks like. While I want to build a SM army, I don't want to build one that looks anything like the one in the Indominus box, even though I do like a lot of the Necron half, and I'm considering starting something that I can play with a friend and if I find a play group expand my half of.

Will we ever find out what the Nids were running from?

If we ever get an origin of the Tyranids it'll probably over-right the previous canon, assuming that's even still canon today. Personal head-canon is they were a Great Old Ones WMD. They sent them out to eat an entire other galaxy and come back to kill the Necrons if they lost the War in the Heavens.

Is that actually the lore? Haven't looked into Tyranid lore much since I had an army in 6th but I'm pretty sure they had just devoured their own galaxy & were simply moving into ours to find more biomass to nom.

It's one of the main theories as to why they're invading the galaxy, alongside the whole "they're just big ol' space locusts going around nomming everything." People like the idea because it implies that there's something even bigger and nastier out there than the Nids, but it's still only a theory.

The problem with Oldcrons was that they had the personality of a head of lettuce, both in terms of fluff and in crunch. Worse, the phase out rule was completely retarded and led to all sorts of goofy calculations and army tweaks.

And while the Newcrons are less 'evil', it seems their latest gambit to push back the warp has had some spectacular side effects, per events in Psychic Awakening.

Newcrons have personality? They're just humans now.

I thought the Tyranids started invading 10,000 years after Dantioch booted up the Pharos device so the Night Lords couldn't use it to find their Primarch

That's the case, yeah, though it appears there were vanguard organisms that made it to the galaxy as early as the 34th Millennium. But the idea goes that the Tyranids had either finished off some other galaxy and were just drifting through dark space in low-power mode to conserve energy until they detected the Pharos, or that they decided to risk dark space because something even bigger and nastier than they are was chasing them.

Wait, side effects? What side effects?
The Necrons set up a system in the Nephilim Sector in Ultima Segmentum that basically mimicked their old pylon system on Cadia, but on steroids. This acts to retard or block warp intrusion into realspace and actually 'stills' the warp. The problem, though, is that it affects living beings as well -- the worlds in the sector are now devoid of life, and the Imperial forces sent to investigate find themselves affected by a strange malaise (except for the Sisters because, well, faith).

And orks are just soccer hooligans.

It's a terrifying thought for sure. Brings to mind Dune & Sins of a Solar Empire.

You guys realize the first thing Vulkan's going to do if/when he comes back is make like MC Hammer and tell the assholes in the Imperium ruining things "Stop! Hammertime!", right? He is/was notoriously tactless and will have zero patience with the High Lords, even less than G-Man.

As someone who stopped playing in 8th because I was butthurt about all the changes I'm itching to play again & actually looking forward to 9th edition. Probably gonna dust off my old Tau & get back into it.

And before you start with the commie weeb shit, don't judge me! They're Orwellian as fuck & perfectly grimdark, they're the Brave New World to the Imperium's 1984.

I heard the Xenos armies suffered in 8th, but with the Necrons being the villain posterboys for 9th I have high hopes!

How many riptides do you have?

Anyone have experience with Reaper paints? I hear the minis are good for practicing on, and they have a set that's 3 minis, several pots of paint, a couple brushes, and a painting guide.

Is it worth it to start with that kit, or will I want something better when I step up to Gloomhaven/Warhammer anyways?

Doesn't really matter. Look inyo the colors of the set tho, and think if they are ones you'll ever use. Like a good set would have red, blue, green, black, white, a metallic and maybe some other random colors.

I have a variety of minis for board games that I wanna paint, so I think any variety will have some use, I'm just debating between a Vallejo/Army Painter starter set and a cheap 3 pack of Reivers or a bit cheaper Reaper kit that has everything I want before I invest more.

I can stand by Vallejo/army painter 100%. While Arclyics arent all made equally, most of them that are specifically made for miniature painting are usually pretty close. So ultimately its up to you, almost every painting guide on youtube uses citidel, Vallejo, or army painter. If that makes any difference to you.

look at the amount of paint you get in those packs and compared it to full sized paint, they like to fuck people over.

i dont know, i painted alot of guard over the last weeks with other paints. Tamiya and Revell colours are waaaaay better than others, they just dont have fancy colours for weapons.
