Goon Squad on Kel'Thuzad (Alliance) was like that to an extent. They would split into other guilds and stuff all the time because GS was a "goon only" group with maybe a friend or two allowed in. Since goons are morons they couldn't raid all that well. The other groups would allow non-goons. So you had a bunch of better half-goon groups. It was full of racism and all sorts of shit back then.
