Edit: I should add deposits run into several thousand in Manhattan and if the landlord has to remove your junk he's legally required to store it for a time and charge storage fees so most people give away what they can't sell/don't want and/or pay someone to remove things. The evening news showed dashcam footage of how things looked from inside the car. I couldn't tell for sure if the people on the hood were trying to kick in the windshield, but you could clearly see their shoe treads against the windshield before the police car sped up to knock them off balance and off the hood. From what I heard on the way home today, DPD Chief Craig seemed to say that the officers were justified in how they handled this situation.

Of course, the protestors will double down on "It was soo peaceful until those dang cops showed up" narrative.

The question of police strike legality notwithstanding, I imagine police only strike (or contract 24-hour Blue Flue when striking isn't possible) in the most extreme situations. Contrary to the ongoing narrative, most cops take pride in their work and want to do the best they can to protect the community given the challenges and constraints of law enforcement. They know mass no-shows will hurt the decent citizens, but some issues they face are serious enough that they have to drive the point home that without police, mass chaos and crime ensues.

The last job I worked at I made about as much as an officer, and its fine if you're single, but if you're in charge of a family it can lead to some struggles, which is why they get so much on pension and the likes,

Just prior to Detroit's bankruptcy, I believe budget cuts had left the entry-level pay for DPD on par with what one would make working 40 hours/week all year at a fast food joint. That's what makes the whole "Defund the police" catchphrase all the more puzzling. Many local police are already underpaid; giving them less resources is one of the worst ideas for addressing the legitimate concerns about heavy-handed cops.

Can confirm. Lifelong Queens resident here, born and bred and this woman is pretty much a carbon copy of my mother. In fact I sent the video to a few close friends laughing their asses off because it's almost identical to how my mother talks on a daily basis. My mother originally grew up in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn though before she moved to Queens.

There's been no protests though over by me or marches or riots. Most of the old women in my neighborhood sound like this woman so they're not gonna come to where I am. Christ, there are even telephone poles here that have Trump 2020 flags hanging from them. The few marches I've heard of in Queens have been constrained to the more liberal / hipster / gentrified areas just outside Manhattan like Astoria.

Besides my neighbor sells stolen meat out of his basement and the local precinct is in with him. Every couple of days a cop car passes by and double parks and my neighbor comes out with a cooler with some meat and they all laugh and shake hands, put the meat in the trunk of the cop car, and leave. So I'm pretty sure if the protestors were stupid enough to pull some shit over here, my neighbor could pretty much shoot them and the cops would look the other way.

I mentioned earlier that NYC might be blue but a lot of certain boroughs are still pretty red. A lot of Queens, definitely Staten Island, most of Brooklyn is cucked except for parts of south Brooklyn like Bensonhurst or Sheepshead Bay. In fact I belong to a Sheepshead bay community group and they've been having nightly patrols of guys with bats since this all started and have been posting pictures and videos of the patrols on facebook to discourage any would be protestors from starting shit or coming around. It's strictly volunteer and they're overloaded with volunteers. Hell, I'm not even from Sheepshead bay and I volunteered for two patrols just because it was a fun night out. That's why all their bullshit has been constrained to the liberal, cucked, and minority areas of NYC like Manhattan, the Bronx, and most of north brooklyn filled with hipsters and flyover people.

Still it doesn't change the fact that just because where I am is OK because they don't tolerate this bullshit doesn't mean I'm not stuck under the yoke of those two fucktards De Blasio and Cuomo so I have been giving serious thought about leaving NYC even though I've been here forever. At the rate those two are going, shit's only gonna get worse.
