r/GamerGhazi discusses TRIGGER WARNINGS

https://np.reddit.com/r/GamerGhazi/comments/33r3m7/whats_up_with_trigger_warnings/

Choice quotes:

  • Its literally a warning so anybody viewing your content knows there's some things they may not want to see. How is this such a huge fucking mystery to people. I really don't get it. People warn Veterans about fireworks around the fourth of july-- why doesn't anybody rail on and on about that? Same shit. /rant
  • The people who are saying that trigger warnings are not helpful because they promote avoidance do not know how exposure therapy works. You cannot simply spring a surprise trigger on someone suffering from PTSD over and over again and expect them to get better. The therapy requires that the patient knows what's coming and is able to prepare for it.
  • Trigger warning/content warning seems to be mostly semantics. I've seen them used interchangeably; at the end of the day, what matters is the warning itself, not what it's called.

As to whether they're a good courtesy to extend, imagine this scenario.

Lets say you're a huge marvel superheroes fan. You absolutely love the series, and you're really looking forward to Age of Ultron. You've not seen it yet, it's only just come out and you want to avoid spoilers. So you avoid anything to do with it.

You tune into a stand up comedy show, and halfway through it the comedian makes a joke that spoils the key plotpoint of the movie. Now, you're probably pretty pissed, right? Like, this wasn't a comedy show about Avengers. It came out of nowhere. It's put you in a bad mood, and what's worse is, this all could have been avoided if the comedian had just said 'Heads up, this next bit has a spoiler for Avengers'

Now, imagine that scenario, but instead of spoiling a movie, it's dragging your mind back to the worst day of your entire life. A day you might wake up in a cold sweat remembering. A day that nearly killed you. The worst thing that's ever happened to you.

All could have been avoided if they'd just put a 5 second 'Heads up, this next bit has a spoiler in'
  • Do people who lose their shit over trigger/content warnings also think we should abolish the TV/movie content ratings system?

Or do they think it's sensible to have some kind of system in place to inform the consumer about things they might potentially want to avoid being exposed to?
I sort of agree with some of what is being said here. My problem is more to do with the extreme levels that some SJWs take these trigger warnings. Not everything needs to be tagged in case that one person with a very rare phobia happens to see it.

Movie warnings tend to be pretty general (i.e, Contains Sexual Violence or Contains Language). That's enough. No need for TW: F-word, guns, loud noises, rape, male-on-female hostility etc...

Since when do they warn veterans that they set off fireworks on the Fourth of July? Don't veterans generally fucking know this already?

Rant coming...

As an artist myself, there's something annoying with "feminist"/SJW designers. While there are dumb-looking skimpy and cheesecake designs, there seems to be a fear of the female form. Any breasts that are above a mid-B-cup, cleavage (even moderate levels), boobplate, shows leg, is tight or form-fitting or skimpy is "problematic." (One artist said that Raven's original outfit during her Teen Titans days would never make it today.)

The other thing is so many of the re-designs can also suck the flair and uniqueness from the outfits. Practicality can be good, but sometimes the designs look so plain, overly-casual and boring. Given how a chunk of the video game and comic market will bend over for these people every time they throw a fit makes me sad as an artist. SJW approved stuff like the lady-Thor comic, Depression Quest, the ugly people in Squirrel Girl and How Do You Do It? is only fun for about ten seconds.

Don't get me wrong, beauty can come in a variety of sizes and features, but it feels like these people just want to suck the prettiness and fun out of things.

People who know nothing about economics talking about capitalism, goody.

Somehow I doubt these rich white people would have had all the time in the world to bitch on Twitter if they lived in a country with a different economic system.

It's time for Saturday Sanity! What? I've never done that before? Let's start now!

Anyway, I don't need to add any captions to these posts because they do a great job of speaking for themselves:

Putting calorie counts is clearly not enough. This tumblrina is triggered, but nowhere near triggered enough.

High calorie options should also have insulting statements next to them, like "Go ahead, order this, you fat fuck. It has 2,000 calories."

And obviously, for something like a bacon double cheeseburger, it should say "And they're all from FAT. Go ahead, order the fries too, Shamu!"

Ok I want to say something about this. First I don't care about seeing calories on the menu as they have been doing that for the past few years but what you are promoting here is fat-shaming which is not going to help. Fat people get a lot of shit thrown at them more than thin people do and to see that kind of wording along with the on the menu list is only going to make them feel bad. Fat people often suffer from depression and some of these people will eat more when they are feeling down. The calorie thing to me is not bothersome, I think people should know what they are putting in there bodies and make a decision based on that, judgement free. I'd say more but I just got out of work, took my meds so I am tired and really can't say anymore.

Well hypothetically there isn't much of a new world for them to move to. Unless we get Mars colonies to be a thing.... Get on it, Mars One.
I Would love to see SJW's go to one of the most extreme environments men has known.
Would really like to see how they would react.
Sadly mars one is a hoax and if they died(from incompetence and lack of any kind of support) there would be a incredibly political shitstorm that would derail any attempts at outerspace colonization.

Wow. It's the mixture of sane shit (new atheists are assholes, PETA are speds, anti-vaxxers are tards) and insane shit (truscum, liberal gun grabbing, Chaos cultist) that's really cringe inducing to me.

Also, what's with the no cure for autism thing? If we develop the technology to cure autism while a person is still an embryo, why shouldn't we use it? It would improve the quality of life for millions of low functioning people. Being against a cure for autism because it isn't "natural" is selfish, ignorant, and frankly, kind of evil.

Don't forget that tumblrinas all have the same art style.
red noses, noodly arms, blush on unnecessary places like fingers, and elbows.
not to mention they will make characters who are pretty ugly cause muh realism or some shit.
I can't remeber where I left some of my examples like someone redesigning characters in LOTR to be female or making elves black cause muh diversity.

so what happens if I reblog her shit?

'She' is a 32-year-old man who will either throw a hissyfit, block you, or ignore you because he's too lazy to check.

Speaking of which, has there been any instances where they have rigorously enforced their rules?

EDIT: ...And now I realize that may have been a rhetorical question.

As someone who used to dive into the WoW fandom, I remember when people started to make their elf characters black. I don't care if people do so or not, but I felt like they only did it to be inclusive rather than just because they wanted to.
