This is how PUAs (pick up artists) became hated by the incel community. They'd give them advice that would work for them because they were operators, but obviously when some autistic incel does this shit, they do it completely wrong. Like they'd hear some bullshit about negging and then walk up to some chick and say hi you're a stupid cunt or something.
 
I feel like people are once again misunderstanding how Dick typically uses twitter. There's nothing new with what he's doing, other than some of his recent lamer jokes being directed at posters here. Hell, I think people continue to misunderstand his character in general, as shown by the people talking about his advice.

That's not to say Dax's lifestyle isn't mildly pathetic and he probably needs to grow up and let of the past a little bit (I understood where he was going with the homcoming king joke attempt, but it genuinely was really telling of his mindset), but Dick Masterson is literally a fictional character played for effect. It's certain aspects of Dax ramped up to 11, while others aspects are nullified. I'd agree that it's getting harder to tell where Dax ends and Dick begins, and it probably has been becoming more of an issue since he originally started participating with the IBS crowd a year or two ago, but you have to remember that most of what you see him do/say/post online is done for effect. Part of the 'charm' of Dick as a character is that he's a sarcastic arsehole that doesn't care if he looks bad while being a dick or making a joke, and that he'll turn on a dime and go into a fast and loud rage for 30 seconds then be calm and collected 5 seconds later. Just a shame that Dax is letting a few too many of his personal insecurities through recently (even though he's right about LSD, he's acting sensitive over it).

Personally I just think Dax has been partially fucked by the lockdown. He's clearly stressed out by it and making poorer decisions than usual (especially in terms of going on shows too far under the influence), and all this is coinciding during a fairly long stretch of 'meh' quality in his show and a bunch of minor controversies in a row (Mint, invoices, JLH).

I have a suspicion Dax realises most of this though, he's talked an awful lot the last 6 months about how he would do a TBPITU type show with various other people. TDS has simply become a bit stale, I guess you could say the meta that the internet likes has changed at the same time Dick AND Dax has gotten older, while some original fans have been replaced by these annoying incel types that don't completely understand the character or original appeal of Dick Masterson and treat him far too literally and actually look up to the character instead of just liking the character.

tl;dr Dax is getting older, the Dick character and Show staler, too much of his new audience (and new detractors, for lack of a better word) don't understand the joke properly, and Dax is making some stupider decisions than normal (though not as stupid or out of character as some people seem to think).

Sam Kinison and to a lesser extent Lewis Black already did this schtick and they did it light years better than Dax could ever dream (particularly the former). The first time I heard him I pegged him as a dime store version of those two. What he lacks is the lucidity and timing they had. His tirades are too long and shallow (wide as an ocean, shallow as a puddle, if you will). Perhaps his audience was too young to be aware of those comedians. Perhaps they just like him and that's fine, but he can't play that schtick on social media. He comes across like an insecure aging hipster thirsty for validation.

That's my guess, and it is about the right time for a midlife crisis. People getting on your back about having kids, your partner aging out of the safe range to have them, hitting 40 and your body falling apart (he's talked a bit about this type of thing in relation to work out injuries as well as the effect of booze), and then suddenly lockdown hits and while forced to stay home there's nothing to do except wallow in your own misery. Well, that and do LSD, drink a shitload, and get into more online nonsense than usual.

Not saying he is having a (mild) midlife crisis, It's not like any of us really knows a great deal about what happens when he's not online and for all we know things are much better than he's expressed, but there are enough things happening to make you wonder about it. Personally I reckon going sober again ( he had a stint not so long ago and lost a bunch of weight), at least for a while, and genuinely trying to reboot a TBPITU type show (or at least one with similar energy) with someone of a rivaling ideology/attitude would do Dax, and thus Dick, wonders.

I'd say Andrew Dice Clay would be a closer fit, in terms of at least partly ironic misogyny, political incorrectness, etc. Dick is a bit more highbrow than that, but there's at least some of that schtick there. Or Denis Leary for that matter.

Recoil in horror when you realize that for a lot of this you could replace "Dax" with "Daniel" and "Dick Masterson" with "Keemstar" without it being a stretch.

There's nothing special about being an exaggerated character. You can describe almost all entertainer personalities as distorted versions of their real selves. Even the ones who don't attach a different name to the "character". These people make fools of themselves and get judged for it all the time. Dax isn't in some unique situation here.

Hot takes on people talking about him (like the kiwi farms posts) and the people surrounding him (usually as a reply to someone on twitter or with screencaps), joke comments (often quite good ones) on tweets that blow up (often thot related), inviting living trashfires of one variety or another onto his show (usually under amusingly dishonest pretenses), a few tweets commenting/joking about headlines (once again often thot related), and then a bunch of talking and arguing with people in his and others replies.

There's a lot of half decent or at least unintersting stuff that he posts, along with a few genuinely good one liners, but usually the only highlights that make it here are when people think he's sperging out or when it's IBS related or something. That's pretty standard for most threads though.

I was thinking ADC as well, but found his shrieking tirades more akin to attempting Kinison. There absolutely is a healthy dose of ADC in his schtick. Particularly the ironic/over-the-top misogyny.

Part of why I don't believe Dick is actually much of a misogynist, and possibly not one at all, is a real misogynist who thought all women were dumb and incompetent would never hire them as legal counsel.

It's pretty funny when he talks about his mum not liking his schtick and how he has to be a Good Boy around her, and how he gets visibly frustrated when people asks if he really believes men are better than women. I'm also pretty sure how I remember him talking about him hiring a female lawyer, and making jokes about how if he lost the case he has a slam dunk explanation why among other things.
