Honestly, this is just dumb. This would maybe be okay if this was a fan translation, but we're talking about a big company here who gets paid to accurately translate anime for western audiences. What were they thinking?

This doesn't piss me off, I just don't get why they'd think this is a good idea. They give no fucks, but not in a good way.

This lines up with the musings of a Funi VA in this post. If the VAs don't get paid enough, what makes anyone think the subtitlers do?

Notably, Erica Mendez is a primarily (solely?) LA-area VA/director, where they've got unions. If the subtitlers aren't getting paid enough there, I wonder what Funi translators are being paid.

As for the social distancing line itself, it doesn't bother me. It just makes me scratch my head that if someone watching this years from now the reference will go over their head, and why Funimation would date their show so.
