Comic books are dead in the West. I was actually typing something up for the Pinko Pox thread but... Basically, the woke infested the industry and ran it into the ground. And it is absolutely, 100%, dead. They might not have called it as such yet, but it's over.

I keep going into too much detail here, but, basically once they got power they started destroying 50 year old franchises and characters just to spite the evil straight-white-male-comic-reader fans who liked them. Wolverine is currently having anal sex with Cyclops on the moon after setting up a Neo-Communist Ethnostate. No, not kidding. (A)

They were also performing hiring decisions just because they "pissed off the right kind of people," mostly hiring random transsexuals, random shitty black women who got worthless "Marxist Literature" degrees, and other woke diversity hire losers that didn't actually earn their positions. And once those types got in they couldn't be fired and skipped out on doing actual comic work because they were just in it to sell shit to Netflix.

Marvel/DC could do this pre-COVID because there was a disconnect between the creators and the readers, and thanks to Diamond and the publishers being owned by AT&T/Disney, they didn't actually have to actually sell comics. The problem is, this was slowly killing the comic book stores, but who cares, they don't actually have to sell comics.

However.... COVID took out Diamond and has shut down all the comic book stores, and neither are likely to reopen after COVID because both were limping along thanks to the woke tumor on the industry sucking it dry. And Disney/AT&T are both bleeding money, so they can't afford to run a charity anymore.

So can Vic just call up a comic book store and do a signing? He could last year, but this year... We'll see. I don't think there'll be any comic book stores left around for him to do so in Summer 2020 and beyond.

Ironically, and because God does love Vic and keeps an eye out for him, it's going to be stuff like Unlocked that likely replaces anime cons (which are very very dead) as the VA's main way to make money. Which Vic has already gotten a head start on.

There is an ancient hope for western comics. It has long been prophesied that as night fell over American comics the sun will on that twilight eve rise in the west, not the east. In a mythical land, called France, there is great talent and lots of money with none of the incompetence or desire to force social progressivism. As America falls and we face the endless night to Japanese conquest, we can look to the light of Paris, and pray for them to realize there is a sudden void in a marketplace they have thus far ignored due to the presence of competition. Asterix and Obelix shall rise!

Modern voice actors and comics pros have not experienced true hell until they have experienced a french CEO suddenly unburdened of the labor laws that restrain him at home. The next few years will be fun to watch.

And Germany and Spain and Italy and Belgium (granted: by the way of France and Germany) and the UK. All self sustaining markets, also trading ammongst each other and with the rest of the world, supported entirely by people who actually consume the damned product that's traded. And then there is a lot of foreign tallent who make a living catering to those markets. Never mind Latin America.
There is no comic crisis. Only a long overdue market correction in the US.

I expect that as the domestic market collapses in America we are going to see the French, Spanish Belgians and Brits start to show up and snap up market share. The chaos outcome would be for Dargaud to grab DC or Marvel in a fire sale from a desperate disney or Warner Bros. I doubt either will give up exclusive rights, but they will sell publication and distribution rights in a hot second at this point. I am almost 100% certain the Frogs are going to move in on the more marginal comics publishers like IDW. This shut down has done fuck all to the French/Belgian publishing houses who were not raging morons putting all their eggs in one basket for distribution, while also alienating their fans. They still got money. Something not even Disney has at this point.

All these woke people like Marchie thinking they could try and dupe the Japs, when France is about to come in and seize American pop culture. The irony is huge. And the French are about as "woke" as a Montana ranch wife on a cold day. The true tragedy is I am sitting here cheering on the fucking french to do it.

I hope for an even bigger shakeup. Why buy Marvel, when you could just have Spider-Man? Never mind that no publisher could ever afford Batman. With a bit of luck the big IP hoards will be cut into investor friendly slices that leave plenty of opportunity for new American publishers and fan initiatives to claw back at least some of their favorites.

When conventions begin again, I wonder if a verified crowd bringer like Vic, will still be blacklisted by conventions who don't know how they will do, first time back?
Most likely. Most people who run these cons care more about virtue signaling than money or don't want to deal with the unfettered autism/insanity of Lynn Cunt. It also doesn't help that cons do have KV members who do menial work that will quit if the evil ninja rapist who doesn't sign degenerate gay porn shows up.

Texas Rules of Appellate Procedure allow the sur-reply to be filed after the soft deadline, alongside a motion to extend.

TRAP 38.3

The appellant may file a reply brief addressing any matter in the appellee’s brief. However, the appellate court may consider and decide the case before a reply brief is filed.[

TRAP 38.6

(c) A reply brief, if any, must be filed within 20 days after the date the appellee's brief was filed.
(d) On motion complying with Rule 10.5(b), the appellate court may extend the time for filing a brief and may postpone submission of the case. A motion to extend the time to file a brief may be filed before or after the date a brief is due. The court may also, in the interests of justice, shorten the time for filing briefs and for submission of the case.

Nick thinks the motion to extend the reply to the cross-appeal also covers their own reply brief. I disagree, but it does allow for them to argue that because they conferred with all counsel of record for the defendants and there was no objection to a motion to extend, and that both the sur-reply and the reply to the cross-appeal were due on the same day that there was an agreement to extend the sur-reply due date, especially with COVID hampering law offices. As you can see from TRAP 38.6 the motion to extend the deadline may be filed after the due date, and attached to the reply brief. There is 0% chance the appeals court does not grant that, and I'd wager they will also grant the attached motions for a word limit exceptions.
Do they even need to reply to the fee appeal? Its not an automatic loss if they dont.

Does that mean we won't have the constant cross-over Event runs and constant universe resets to go along with them?

The woke don't believe in money -- or even Capitalism. To them, they'll continue to fuck themselves out of the people Vic would bring in and it won't be their fault (it's NEVER their fault much like it was NEVER real communism) -- it'll be Vic's fans for not supporting them even after they blacklisted Vic.
The problem is that wont be sustainable right out of the gate.

Most of that stuff is volunteer work. I wonder if all those people will have time to volunteer now that the economy is in the shitter.

By the time another anime or comic con rolls around it will be 2021 at least and this lawsuit will possibly be done, hopefully with a favorable outcome to Vic. It might not if it goes to trial but either way most of the volunteer staff and paid staff will have probably moved on to other jobs. All these cons are going to have to start completely from scratch.

That actually makes it a prime opportunity for people who want to stop all this nonsense to move into the market. Assuming they have money and experience of course.

There's no way in hell Monica and Jamie aren't blacklisted after this. Not by Funimation. By Sony. They cost Sony half a million or so in legal and administration fees and risked exposing a lot of dirty laundry, such as the FuniLeaks or the fact that Sony faked a HR investigation, to the world. They have blacklisted people for far less.
You mean more dirty laundry than their previous leak ?

Oh god yes. Don't think "embarrassing blooper reels." Think "people offhandly mentioning 'Sabat's little problem with the casting couch'" in an email. Think Funimation execs mentioning in a DM on Slack that they know Monica is lying but don't want to deal with the social media backlash. That sort of thing.

You think Nick has some of this?

It's better to play it safe than not. If you don't reply that means that the appeals court relies on the record and the cross-appellant's brief, which is probably not what you want if only because they could then say a bunch of shit that may or may not actually be in the record, and you want to minimize the chances of the appeals court Chupping it up. if they bank on winning on appeal and mooting the cross-appeal altogether only to lose, then they are going to be in for a rude awakening. As I've said before, this is more than likely Ty's last chance to win for Vic; if they lose on appeal and the Texas supreme court doesn't take up the case then any win Vic has in terms of public relations or whatever is halved at least because even though Vic could say to conventions, "We showed they lied about all of this" the response is, "Yeah, but he sued and lost." It doesn't matter if it's on procedural grounds or a fuck-up by the trial court, most of these people are not going to read through thousands of pages of briefs and Ronversations to make an informed decision.

Dont forget us germans!

Egmont is the company most likely to take over more of Disney comics. they already produce alot of them for europe.

According to Animecons.com https://animecons.com/events/schedule.php?year=2020&loc=us next U.S. anime con will be in June 2020.

Unopposed Motion for Extension of Time to File Appellant’s Reply Briefs.
Hrm. Dated 4-27 but accepted 4-19.

Jm any case nothing to see here. Looks like Vic is taking a page out of Morons book and just filing his cross-appellee brief and response briefs the same day

This is how they should have done it in the first place. It probably would have slid, but just as well to get it right. I wonder if they actually read about their oopsy from lawl twitter or if they noticed it themselves.

Also because of the obligatory Rule of Lulz in Weeb Wars filings, this:
