Basically think of all the links in the Anime industry where someone can claim "act of God" and break that link. The whole system my be shattered and will need to be rebuilt by the time this is done.

It's not a theory. Disney and AT&T are apparently canceling contracts. Assume others are. Anime stuff is not simply from Funi or Crunchyroll. They're not getting the original animes because Japans anime industry is largely on lockdown.

And I somehow doubt any of these twits have figured out that the convention circuit, y'know the place where they make most of their money, is over for the forseeable future. Who's going to put on an Anime Convention now? Who's going to absorb that risk? That up front cost? The Convention runners are just going to quietly close up shop and not schedule a new one. That revenue source is gone for at least a year or two.

It was such a brilliant idea to knock off their competition on the convention circuit. Such brilliant timing as well. Vic is almost at an advantage since he's had a year to come up with something better to do.

Plus money he has squirreled away. Right now that GoFundMe is looking better because it's a source of income to get shit done for Vic's team, while the defendants (with the exception of FUNimation) have to wonder how they'll be able to pay a damn thing. Even on contingency they still need to file motions, paperwork, etc., plus travel expenses, food, and other sundry items related to defending the appeal. If anything COVID was a Godsend for Vic's team, because it has the ability to hurt the defense in the short term and long term since they lack the financial resources Ty Beard has (since he regularly represents millionaires in mergers and the like and makes bookoo bucks).

One good thing about Corona-Chan is she's taking a sledge hammer to this entitled spoiled brat routine the entire Western entertainment industry's been in since 2014/15.

Walt Disney World is losing roughly $30 million per day. Not $30 million per month or per week; per day! And that's even after putting nearly their entire work force into furloughs. The Disney Company lost a total of $145 million in 8 weeks when the parks at China shut down alone.

Most recently, Comic Con has been cancelled, for the first time in 50 years, along with AnimeExpo. Think about it: two of the biggest pop culture events of the year and arguably the main sources of income for these voice actors, animators and comic book writers alike are closed this year.

If coronavirus is wrecking that much havoc on the entertainment industries, I can't imagine the convention circuit not being affected by this. If these voice actors think their beloved Flower Bound company is going to save them, oh ho, they're in for a rude awakening.

Comic books are dead in the West. I was actually typing something up for the Pinko Pox thread but... Basically, the woke infested the industry and ran it into the ground. And it is absolutely, 100%, dead. They might not have called it as such yet, but it's over.

I keep going into too much detail here, but, basically once they got power they started destroying 50 year old franchises and characters just to spite the evil straight-white-male-comic-reader fans who liked them. Wolverine is currently having anal sex with Cyclops on the moon after setting up a Neo-Communist Ethnostate. No, not kidding. (A)

They were also performing hiring decisions just because they "pissed off the right kind of people," mostly hiring random transsexuals, random shitty black women who got worthless "Marxist Literature" degrees, and other woke diversity hire losers that didn't actually earn their positions. And once those types got in they couldn't be fired and skipped out on doing actual comic work because they were just in it to sell shit to Netflix.

Marvel/DC could do this pre-COVID because there was a disconnect between the creators and the readers, and thanks to Diamond and the publishers being owned by AT&T/Disney, they didn't actually have to actually sell comics. The problem is, this was slowly killing the comic book stores, but who cares, they don't actually have to sell comics.

However.... COVID took out Diamond and has shut down all the comic book stores, and neither are likely to reopen after COVID because both were limping along thanks to the woke tumor on the industry sucking it dry. And Disney/AT&T are both bleeding money, so they can't afford to run a charity anymore.


So can Vic just call up a comic book store and do a signing? He could last year, but this year... We'll see. I don't think there'll be any comic book stores left around for him to do so in Summer 2020 and beyond.

Ironically, and because God does love Vic and keeps an eye out for him, it's going to be stuff like Unlocked that likely replaces anime cons (which are very very dead) as the VA's main way to make money. Which Vic has already gotten a head start on.

And the funny thing is during this someone at Lucasfilm thought it would be a great idea to leak news about a "Female Centric" Star Wars without Disney's approval/involvement.

If this statement could be any more wrong it would be "not even wrong". Authors and artists, who sell to people who actually read comics, are making more money than ever. What's dying are the parasites who have been occupying and crowding out the American market for the last few decades. What's dying are the leeches who lived on American collectors, investors, and institutional buyers at the expense of the medium.
Meanwhile the European markets keep doing what they always did, and the American market is being reconquered by creators and readers using crowdfunding to cut out the parasites.
