Sitting on your fat ass and worrying about things outside your control is healthy, staying active and learning new skills is pathological.

Labelle might not be the best person to take advice from.
It’s such a bizarre message. It’s like Labelle is shaming people for actually making the most of the situation. I get that not everyone wants to learn Klingon or write a symphony, but how is panicking any more useful?

Im pretty sure the phrase "be gay do crimes" hearkens back to when you could actually be arrested and imprisoned for being gay. (Which still happens in some parts of the world but the people who say it all the time dont live in those parts) It implies that being gay is inherently radical and anti establishment. People like Sophie wish that was still the case, society becoming more accepting to gay and trans people makes it a lot harder to use that as a basis for rebellion.

OK now I get it, but I do not recall that slogan in the early days of the gay rights movement.
Maybe it's TMI, but I am old and gay. And was a serious activist in the 1970s.

It's not any slogan from any real gay people, it comes back to the "shoplifting is okay!" "lol kill all politicians and billionaires" crime-fetishizing queer (read:not gay) white kids of Tumblr.

OooOo I can't wait to see how Labelle handles this sensitive topic that they have literally no experience with and have no idea what the people who ARE experiencing it are going through!

I bet it will be handled with tact and care and not at all just be monologues about blah blah blah government blah blah transphobia.
That said, is it sad that I kinda wanna see Tranny Granny to go with Grandpa Faggot? Not that she's trans, but because she's from a different generation she doesn't use "pc" language.

Also, here's a Canadian fun fact: You ARE allowed to go get your loved ones out of long-term care facilities BUT you can only do so on the grounds that you will provide them proper care.
Basically Canadian Dad of the year up there is saying "Well we coooould save Gram, but it would mean we'd have to empty her bed pan so it's looking like she's stuck there."

People like Labelle are just trying to get validation for their own laziness rather than actually trying to show solidarity to anyone. They do this all the time and try to hide it behind the pathetic guise of enlightened thinking.
If you want some of the funniest examples of this behavior check out the "healthy at any size" crowd where you can watch people pat each other on the back for not giving in to "diet culture" by eating an entire extra large pizza by themselves in one sitting.
Thanks to the internet you can justify any of your worst behaviors this way AND be patted on the back for doing so!

Yeah no lie I didn't hear it until recently either.
I kind of like the sentiment around it, with gays around the world kind of saying to those stuck in countries where their sexuality is considered a crime that it's better to be considered a criminal then in the closet, and that there is a community that supports them even if they're branded one buuuuuuuuuut I also realize that the people who are yelling this slogan the loudest are also the ones that would only give back to the cause as long as it won them internet points and required very little actual work or money.

Remember guys; never be happy, because someone somewhere else is sad.

I don’t recall anyone saying “Look for the good side of quarantine, THAT’S MANDATORY!” It’s just that people want to make the best of things and for other people to be as happy as they can in the circumstances. In any case, the situations Labelle describes above would be shitty whether you’re in quarantine or not, so it just comes across as a deliberate attempt to stop people from being happy. So bitter. Just because his husband isn’t real.
