I've tried to be optimistic during this whole thing, but I've about given up being hopeful that things will turn out better after this. China's close to be absolved of all blame for being the direct cause of this mess, the powers that be throughout the world are taking every advantage of the panic to exert as much totalitarian control as they can grab, and from the looks of things, it's only going to get worse with Bill Gates wanting to go full Mark of the Beast with his "bio-tattoo" and microchip bullshit.

I'm really, really trying to not think otherwise, but I'm ready to believe that we're truly fucked this time Kiwis, all of us... (:_(

I don't like my life being on hold so a bunch of fossells get 2 extra years of life.
It's less about helping Gertrude stay alive for another Bingo Hall than it is about helping the medical industry take care of the load by 'staggering' the cases over a larger period of time. The healthcare system in any country is not designed to handle a massive spike in people requiring intensive care, so while I do personally think that the Mandarin Malady was overhyped to an enormous degree, I also respect the numbers involved. If this was allowed to run completely unchecked, it would slam the brakes on the healthcare system so hard that for the next 5-10 years all any hospital would be doing would be taking care of people with the infection.

Any other emergency care or even elective care would be thrown under the bus to try and handle the case load, because there just aren't enough people to handle it all at the same time. That's also why I've found the people screaming about "healthcare should be free!" right now to be particularly idiotic because the cost isn't the damned problem. You can make healthcare free, you could make hospitals literally have to pay YOU to go to them and it wouldn't change the fact that there's not enough supply to meet the demand.

Either way, the point isn't that we're trying to make sure that the ladies at the rummage sale get to hold another contest for a new pair of dentures, the point is that we're trying to ensure that the healthcare system doesn't wind up collapsing under the strain of this outbreak, otherwise it's essentially not going to even exist for the next decade while it tries to piece itself back together. Our healthcare industry already goes under a decent amount of strain every flu season, but it's designed to handle that. Piling a second, novel flu season on top of that is not something that it was ever designed to take on.

Yeah man, sure sucks how the colonial Americans just had to put up with the British government.

These circumstances could actually be the jackpot.

A problem is that the great recession essentially dissolved the last bit.of unity people have for one another. Now you got left wing commies shaming people for going on a casual walk and encouraging people to snitch on one another. The right wing fascists using it grab as much power as possible as seen in Hungary after they realized they couldnt sweep it under the rug. Plus we get a second great recession/depression on the shit sundae as our favorite businesses is gonna go out of business a people can't even afford their rent.

Ironically this hits the Zoomers double hard in their nads as they are likely still living with boomer parents and thus obliged to care for them and the fact that most are either out of a job or on the job with only back breaking labor and junkies who have taken over the streets.

And to speak nothing of the initial panic as people went from full capitalist ho and bought up sanitizers and toilet paper and all the essentials to sell at outrageous costs to full communist breadline dystopia as people ared to line up to go shopping as social distancing kicks into effect .

So why does Australia want to do these measures? Why is freedom regarded as a bad thing? Is it the Chinese influence?

Scott Morrison has never been what I'd call a strong leader and those advising him are the Doherty Research Institute (Who just got a cash injection from Jack Ma, Alibaba billionaire) and UNSW, who also just got about $8 million for one research grant from China. Meanwhile, they won't listen to modelling from the University of Sydney's experts, who are by far and large, more equipped to give decent advise. I believe the UoS to be more honest than Doherty, Imperial College London or UNSW. So whilst it's hard to say, if you're getting your modelling from Chinese backed think tanks but not from other sources, is your modelling legit? That's what they're basing lockdowns on.

It's also worth noting that most jurisdictions such as the United States only test people who are sick. Numbers out of places like Iceland and Germany where more extensive testing is carried out seem to indicate a large percentage of people who contract the virus do not suffer any symptoms at all and they never get counted toward the totals in countries like the US.
Yeah, Iceland found that most people had been infected and didn't even know. Lombardy in Italy found that 40/60 tested had had it, even tho they had no symptoms. No wonder the FDA is holding up serology testing in the US.
The spread of Coronavirus has been going on for much longer and has been much more widespread with no symptoms than the corrupt WHO would have you believe.

the point is that we're trying to ensure that the healthcare system doesn't wind up collapsing under the strain of this outbreak,

Problem is, it will. It will collapse because of the closure of private hospitals. Private hospitals take a lot of the overflow. Elective, cancer treatments, specialised treatments etc. Most are now struggling. Nurses and doctors have been laid off.
So what do you do when they close?

Lots of private hospitals are saying they've got only weeks worth of cash left. Others only months. I understand that controlling the contagion is important, but it has and will come at the cost of not only private hospitals that will fold, but the lives of people who will have other health issues arise. After this, access to public hospitals will be stymied because of a) lack of funding due to blowing all your budget on Corona. b) no private hospitals to take overflow.
The public hospital demand will increase, because it's the only option, but waiting lists will skyrocket and easily preventable things will now become deadly.

Even GPs in the US are saying they're close to folding. That's troubling. So in a way it is a cut the nose off to spite the face situation. Hence why I think that serology testing will be slow to come to pass and why Birx and Fauci are so overly keen to class every death as Covid-19. You have to justify what terrible things you did to save a few lives.

It's a complete Nekobaba situation. You sneakily steal and then cover up the misdeed. After Coronavirus has passed, the media will suddenly not talk about what has happened as a result of this lockdown lunacy.

More Mandatory Masking:

A CALIFORNIA sheriff warned that people could be fined $1,000 and even jailed for not covering their faces in public.

Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco announced the tougher measures after the department lost two deputies to Covid-19.

The worst thing about this "new normal" is that every petty cop and govt official, especially in small towns, has ultimate power over us and is using it in the name of safety. The busybody power tripping town zoning board types, dog catchers, village cops, etc can pretty much do whatever they want. They can arrest or fine you for anything, pull you over, decide what you can and can't purchase as essential (and what days you can leave the house).

The longer this goes on, the worse it will get. And the one neat trick they found is without allowing public gatherings, you can't go to the town board meeting to complain. You can't talk to your neighbors as a group to oppose it. There are no courts in session to sue them.

Minnesota is extending the stay at home order until May 4. Walz is already warning citizens that it will not be a typical summer for boating and fishing and other summer activities that literally keep Minnesotans living in the state through the winters. Take away the summers, and Walz is going to have a backlash on his hands quickly, even in a passive society like Minnesota’s. He also won’t share his models with the public but claims the peak isn’t coming until July now. Also be scared of another wave in the fall. He would like Minnesotans to be patient and continue being compliant. :story:

Minnesotans are also getting in more fatal accidents despite overall road traffic being down by nearly 50%. I guess that’s ok as long as the kung flu isn’t overwhelming the hospitals.

Not going to share the hospital system because PL, but a family member’s employer in Wisconsin just furloughed the majority of their employees due to a lack of work and because they’ve already lost millions in a matter of weeks not being able to do routine care.

Verizon canceling service and installs until November.
Cox not allowing their techs to go inside homes anymore.

Comcast and Charter still happily sending their techs out to get and spread the coof in to as many homes as possible before they die.

I don't know if this is a MidWest thing, but I've noticed that whenever drivers here go onto a closed off/deserted road, they suddenly turn into Mario-fucking-Andretti. As if they've been waiting their whole lives to live out their Need for Speed fantasies and figure they can finally do so because there are no cops around or rules forbidding them. You hear "White MidWesterner" and you think "honor system rules lawyer", the kind of people who'd follow the law to a fault even if God himself were looking the other way. But no. The only thing that's keeping Sven and Ole in check is the shame of what their neighbors would think of them if they were ever caught.

How long do you give it before stay at home orders are ignored en masse?

People are already antsy. Most of the US lives for spring and summer after long, cold, dreary winters. I feel like everything is going to fall apart in a matter of weeks. We need to move forward with antibody testing. We also need to urge people who are 70+ or immunocompromised to stay home imo.

I'm not leaving my house more than once a week at this point and am OK with that for now, maybe even for the rest of the year, but most people can't reasonably do that like I can or simply don't want to, which is understandable. I'm just hoping for a viable antiviral treatment soon.

This LARPing is so embarrassing.

Pick up a rifle yourself or shut up.

Society didn't collapse from the Spanish Flu because its soul already collapsed from WW1.
