Corona beer to halt production because of coronavirus pandemic
The popular beer’s owner, Grupo Modelo, announced plans to temporarily cease manufacturing on Twitter.
Bad news for beer lovers: Grupo Modelo, the company that owns and manufactures Corona is temporarily halting production of its beer in Mexico because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The beverage company stated that they will suspend operations in order “to attend to the health emergency caused by the virus SARS-CoV2,” according to the public statement.
The Mexican government recently shut down all nonessential business activity in both public and private sectors until April 30, according to CNN.
“Grupo Modelo will abide by the measures adopted by the Federal Government and reaffirms its total commitment to be part of the fight against the coronavirus,” the company wrote, as it also confirmed the donation of 300,000 units of antibacterial gels and sanitizers.
Grupo Modelo also said it is ready to execute a plan that will guarantee a supply of beer if the Mexican government declares beer production to be an essential business. The company reports 75 percent of its staff are currently working from home.
