This sounds right. Autism and ASD people aren't geniuses or idiots; they vary like other people. The way they see the world differently can be both a benefit and a cost mostly independent of their IQ.
We've seen his schoolwork like history papers, which is tough to make direct interpretations from, especially with the 'tism. However, we do have one more measure: reports from The Game Place on how he regularly lost Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh games to children. Those games are dependent on luck and mental ability (and money, but he could easily be dumping in more money than the kids) and he usually lost.
That paper was bad. Bad, bad, bad. If anyone else had written it I would have assumed they were being purposefully obtuse. But this is Chris.
