Men can be really intimidating to young girls. That's why they shift focus to fictional men who are 100% safe, or to totally unattainable options like celebrities. Most girls who feel this way overcome it because they have positive male role models, are accepted by male peers, and feel safe generally, but some don't, and echo-chambering shit like "all men are garbage" to preteens that are already confused makes it a lot worse. There's a reason that a ton of "gay" FtMs have histories of physical abuse by men.
GNCCentric, a detransitioned FTM with a youtube channel described it as being so uncomfortable with having a female body that she couldn't even read porn with female characters, it made her so uncomfortable. So she was a gay ftm, even though she realized as she was detransing that she's a full on lesbian. This is a surprisingly common phenomenon.
I'm sure there are plenty who are actually just straight chicks who have a fetish for gay men or atleast feel safer reading it because they can dissociate from their female bodies, but it's a little wild how many former self proclaimed ftm "fags" turn out to be lesbians in the end.
