'Empire' star Jussie Smollett attacked in possible hate crime

Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked in the early morning hours on Tuesday in what Chicago police are calling a possible hate crime.

Smollett was attacked by two people "yelling out racial and homophobic slurs" and "poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim," police said.

According to police, one of Smollett's alleged attackers also put a rope around his neck. Both fled the scene.

Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and "is in good condition," police told CNN.

Later Tuesday, CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Smollett and a mutual friend who was at the hospital with the actor. Smollett confirmed the incident took place.

He was shaken and angry that an attack like this could happen. Smollett told CNN he fought back at the attackers.

"Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime," the police statement said.

Smollett has starred on Fox's "Empire" since 2015. He plays Jamal, a successful singer in the musical Lyon family. Like his character, Smollett identifies as gay.

"We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our 'Empire' family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night," a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN. "We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate -- and especially against one of our own."

A representative for GLAAD told CNN the organization has reached out Smollett to offer assistance and support.

"Jussie is a true champion for LGBTQ people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world," a GLAAD spokesperson said in a statement.

lol @ his attorney using the misleading term of 'reprosecuted' while also not screaming double jeopardy.

The interesting thing to me about the info dump is the Special Prosecutor asked the Chicago Prosecutor to provide documentary evidence to back up their claim that this dismissal was routine and something they do often for crimes such as this. No such evidence was provided. I wonder if we are gonna see that prosecutor hauled in too over this.
Quite possibly.

Now, realpolitik says there is a certain level of corruption necessary to make a country run. This is true, but there is one cardinal rule about it. Never be public with it, always give it a veneer of plausibility.

When Capone was dragged before a court he controlled, they went through all the motions to give it the illusion of propriety, When Obama wanted Clinton cleared, he allowed an 'investigation' that 'properly' cleared her of wrong doing. Then, what do those who got off do? They stay quiet, they keep their heads down for a little bit, and avoid bringing it up.

But what do we have here? There was not even an ATTEMPT to make this look proper. Then, Smollet just... blabbed his mouth, repeatedly. Whether you believe that the state prosecutor is sincerely in it for principle, or you believe every member of the government is corrupt as fuck. The simple unified view of BOTH camps is "Smollet is going down" AND "The Chicago Prosecutor is going with him". Either due to moral principles, or because they fucked up so hard that any corrupt government would want them gone to maintain the veneer.

I recall reading an article put out by a local news source, maybe I can find it later today, but they tracked down half a dozen or so cases where people were charged with false reporting and did not go to jail.

The synopsis was that generally they had to pay fines, go on probation, and all of them had to admit guilt in court.

Couple that with her stating she was 'recusing' herself without actually recusing herself and that might be an issue.

Okay, I found at least one example, but I'll look further:

For example, in 2017 Katie Mager and Ryan Reieirsgaard told police they were robbed at knifepoint just three blocks from where Smollett claimed to have been attacked.
The tourists from Minnesota claimed someone stole a $12,000 engagement ring and other valuables. They later admitted to making it up for fun.
“We have false police reports that are made all the time,” said WGN legal analyst and former prosecutor Terry Sullivan. “They don’t get the coverage and all that that this one did.”
In the case of the Minnesota tourists, both pled guilty to filing a false police report, received two years probation and fines of a few hundred dollars.
Prosecutors hit Smollett with a similar “felony disorderly conduct” charge. It also carries the possibility of probation and fines.

This fag is just so stupid (or cheap) that he didn't hire the cops to stage the 'attack' in the first place.

He's just a barely-a-celebrity who is not in the special club that gets that kind of special treatment. He pulled the only strings he had and got super lucky, then pushed it like the little bitch he is.

This is a staggering amount of optimism considering no statement of intent to remove or retain the prosecutor has been made.

Would you consider them stepping down as "going with him"?

All this nigga had to do was say that he was sorry for staging a hoax and add in some bullshit sentiment about "I'm getting the help I need" in his press conference after he got his case dismissed. Instead, much like our good ol' pal Lord Sargon the Schmuckle Cuck, he went the "never apologize" route to the most autistic degree. He deserves everything that's coming to him.

I have no clue why anyone is still talking about this.
Because it's a fairly high-profile representation of a play one side of American politics has been running for the past five years more or less without consequence despite being found out time and again, and people are lining up to finally see some heads roll.

Also Smollett is a top-tier attention whoring faggot and would likely be a lolcow in his own right if he didn't warrant handlers managing his outbursts.

It is just old news and boring at this point

Yes, and how many of them are celebrities*?

Look, my point is that a party is only going to be willing to accept so many black eyes, especially during an election year. A lot of people came out two seconds after his story started garnering scrutiny and said everyone questioning him was a terrible racist, and then did the same thing when a grand jury wanted to talk to him. All of those people are going to have their credibility questioned if he goes down, and if nothing else they'll need to be replaced by some other, more well-greased cogs. No one wants to go down because of this stain.

All I'm saying is that someone is doing careful math right now.

*yeah, I know, Smollett being a person of notability is laughable, but what else would you call him+?

+okay, besides that.

Illinois has 4 governors who’ve been convicted of a crime either during or following their stint as Gov. 2 additional governors were charged with crimes, but beat the rap.

One is sitting in prison right now, brought down by recordings of him trying to sell Obama’s Senate seat - and he was a major power player in the so-called Madigan Machine, a leftist powerhouse in Chicago and Springfield (everywhere in between, too).

jussie had some political coin, but as of late, his pockets are empty.
He has no one to defend him, now: Special prosecutor Webb brought charges post-Google geolocation/email/text subpoena, so the proof we all knew had to be somewhere, is very likely damning.

It’s very corrupt, here, true. Those same attention-seeking politicians, pundits, and major players will be the first to distance themselves once word comes down that he’s fucked, and the gossip pipeline is swift. They’ll hang him out to dry and never look back.

Possibly, depends on how much the State decides they need to make an example of them.

I watched the videos that were released awhile back on the"cwb" blog that was first to call this bullshit. Juicy was talking to a cop with the laundry rope around his neck. The one the brothers were seen purchasing in another video. This was the most fake bullshit ever.
So, say some rednecks rogue and went to terrorize famous blacks, they wouldn't go after some no name guy on a shitty fox show. They'd go after a big name. Kanye. Any rapper or bakkaball star that even grandmas know the name of. Juicy mullet wouldn't even be on their radar.

What the fuck? I used to watch these guys maybe 5 years ago. I could tell they were right-wing, but didn't know they went full Trump supporter. What a fucking wild turn.
They were on a Steven Crowder video talking about that. They voted for Obama saw their taxes and didn't vote for him again on phone can't dig for the video

If Micheal Vick can find work after dog fighting, so can Smollet if this is let go. Also Louis CK is a cuck and doesn't count, that man imposed the exile on himself.

Wendy Williams had some choice words for the city of Chicago and actor Jussie Smollett following his new indictment on six counts of disorderly conduct for lying to police about his alleged 2019 attack.

Special prosecutor Dan Webb issued a statement announcing the indictment against the 37-year-old former "Empire" star on Tuesday, prompting Williams to take to her talk show’s “Hot Topics” segment Wednesday to discuss the issue. In a lengthy rant about the case, she suggested that Smollett’s career is over.

“His prison life has already started. He’ll never work again. Nobody cares about him,” she said. “If I saw him walking down the street I’d cross to the other side.”

She later added: “I mean, the man will never work again. Whoever hires him is going to be protested with the pickets outside. Just leave it alone, he’s done.”

Williams, 55, also chastised the city of Chicago and the special prosecutor for further pursuing the incredibly convoluted case, remarking that it’s a waste of the city’s precious time and resources.

“Chicago should just let this go. Let it go, man. You’re wasting time with the court system.”

She added: “Jussie Smollett is alleged to have done a horrible thing, but with the gang violence and the bad school system in Chicago — you guys have bigger fish to fry.”

In January 2019, Smollett told police he was attacked by two masked men as he was walking home from a Chicago Subway sandwich shop at approximately 2 a.m. The actor alleged that the masked men taunted him with homophobic and racial slurs, beat him and looped a noose around his neck before fleeing.

He said his attackers, at least one of whom he said was white, told him he was in "MAGA country" — a reference to President Trump's campaign slogan, "Make America Great Again."

The brothers are expected to testify that the incident was a hoax masterminded by Smollett.
