so THIS is what people mean when they tell you all you get from Linkara are let's reads of a comic book you may or may not have read. Admittedly I think examples like this one are kinda uncommon but Christ I only thought TheLonelyGoombah was capable of speaking so much nothing for so long. I mean with The Last Jedi review he was able to say SOMETHING about the comic book adaptation/movie.

I've been keeping up with his videos since Mr.T and the T-force and this video is pretty much one of his more poorly made videos I've seen recently, Which actually come to think of it, can be said for almost all of his patreon sponsored videos. Idk why Linkara decides to phone these in when in other reviews, he's at least able to talk a little bit more than: "rant-snark-recap-snark-recap-recap-rant-snark." for 20 minutes.

after 20 minutes of an entire plot synopsis he said it was pretty okay. The ideas and superhero deconstruction are nothing really new or special he hasn't seen from in comics but still the ideas are well executed.

Oh, sure, but not the major content producers, as a rule. Heck, remember, technically SFDebris was under the CA banner for a while. Some of the brits were alright. I'd even say Brad Jones is pretty well adjusted, for a guy who tried to kill himself and was committed for a while.

Of course, Video essays and editorials are much more capable of analytical discussion than the tired old "comedy review" that Linkara and his peers do. I mean Doug is at least capable of doing them, though I can't recall if Lewis had done anything similar. there was the new 52 rant but that's about it, and that video was supposed to be a Jimquisition parody.
 
I will give Linkara credit for one thing...

Because of him, I found out about Batman Noel, a comic Christmas Carol adaptation set in the DC universe with Batman as Scrooge and various other characters filling in as loose stand ins for the classic characters of the Dickens tale.

I saw Linkara's video on it and I went out and got a copy of it, and its one of the more unique Christmas Carol adaptations I've come across, so I was happy to read it.

So yeah Lewis...one of your recommendations worked out for me, so thanks for that!

Insert "Broken clock is right twice a day" or "Blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while" line.

In a similar vein, he's why I picked up Fifty-Two (The original weekly series). While his tastes are very plain and rigid in the "heroes must be unquestionably good and there can be no grey morality or else the book sucks" way, he does have some good opinions. But as you say, it's the exception that proves the rule.

That's the case of Linky coping the popular opinions. Bisedes 52 has some superstar names attached to it that Lewis isn't brave enough to challenge if he does hate parts of it.

I think one overlooked issue of lightbringer that I have is it's just not just badly made, but it's concept is so cliched, and boring, that's also not even worth saving.

I mean, I'm aware an artist tried to continue it, not sure if he was paid, but I'm sure it was mostly because, once you see a trainwreck, it's very tempting to fix it.

To give an example, RWBY's writing might be atrocious, but it had a lot of potential to the point many people try to fix it because a lot of the worldbuilding it's genuinely good and could be much better in the right hands and others just stick around because the concepts are genuinely good. But this? Lightbringer is just a Frankenstein of DC Comics, to the point, it verges on plagiarism.

Not even now that it's in the public domain (assuming DC comics doesn't protest first). You would 100% be better just doing your own thing.

Ironically the only original thing he brought to the table was a terribly handled hot take on sex slavery and pacifism. Which is why that's the only thing anyone talks about in regards to Lightbringer. Everything else is just boring on top of being bad.
 
He paid that artist. There are two attempts after lightbringer 'entered public domain' by two separate parties to remake the series. I can't see why anyone would want to do that. There's so much of Lewis's garbage connected to it

Something tells me that if someone, somehow, managed the impossible and made Lightbringer a legitimate money maker, Linkara would be the first to sue for money no matter how " Public domain" it supposedly is.

I personally wouldn't touch Lightbringer with a ten-foot pole, even if I was paid for it. I don't want to be mean, but this comic It's not just bad, but there really isn't anything I think would be worth re-using, not even in a missed potential kind of way.

Lightbringer is honestly just a huge lawsuit bomb waiting to happen. Anyone that would dare to try to use it and succeded, would, best case scenario be in legal trouble with both DC Comics and Linkara. The only reason that's not an issue, is because it's simply not worth it.

There is absolutely no way there wasn't someone in Linkara's fanbase who would've loved the opportunity to work on -- whatever he thought Lightbringer to be. He could've pulled the old exposure bit. "All of my followers are going to see your art and know who you are! It'll be great!" I imagine he had some vision in his head and turned away and free offers and decided to do it himself.

I would if it was free. Same reason I don't read his Angel Armor novels. Otherwise, it's not worth it because Linkara's work is always boring. I don't even expect it will be so bad it's good material or worth some laughs like Sonichu.

I am actually surprised nobody scanned it, but as Pixy Misa said, it's probably too boring. Especially since it was supposed to be a twelve issue maxi-series inspired by Watchmen, so he was probably building up to something that we never got to see.

Have you seen the webcomic forms of One Punch Man and Mon Psycho 100? I think that’s all the proof you need. Also, I’m pretty sure an entire generation was raised on cool stuff involving stick figures.
