Who is that? I've never heard of that!

The reason I keep bringing this up is because the original Smash was opposite. The only character I never heard of was Captain Falcon.

Now I run into characters I never heard of in game itself.

Too many humans have infiltrated Smash.

Lmao if you didn't call Byleth as a Smash character the second Three Houses was announced. When side characters like Lucina and Chrom could make it in, there was no way they'd pass on a Three Houses character.

I'm guessing fire emblem was a failed franchise in international market until Marth in melee. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo thinks Fire Emblem success is directly tied to Smash appearances.

Fire Emblem wasn't out internationally until the 7th one on GBA in '03, so two years after Melee, meaning everyone had a collective "who the fuck are Marth and Roy" moment

People definitively knew a TH rep was likely, but there was speculation it would be someone like Edelgard or Dmitri due to their popularity and helping allieivate the "Generic anime swordsman" issue.

How are Chrom and Lucina side characters? Chrom is the main lord of Awakening alongside Robin, and Lucina is one of the most important characters in Awakening's plot. If Ike can make it despite being in some of the worst selling Fire Emblem games of all time, twice, why not put Awakening reps?
 
i can't believe master hero soccer guy not only got me to wake up at 5 in the morning to watch a half hour livestream about blue hair sword lord number 8, but also got me to pay for it months ago with the pass. i've never been fucked so hard in my life.
