Due to the way that Medicaid is implemented, this usually comes out of state money that could have been put towards more useful things than stink ditches for the mentally ill. Like public health which is underfunded and there's a massive syphilis outbreak going on right now because PrEP and troons.

It’s been heavily promoted especially to gay men and trans women. While this is good for reducing HIV cases, it means people have more bareback anal, which leads to higher rates of other STDs. (There’s also a lot more people who are injection drug users than there used to be). While syphilis is curable with antibiotics, individuals may not know immediately they have it, and doctors might not immediately recognize it since it’s no longer common in the US. Also there’s now a problem with drug resistant gonorrhea so that could happen to syphilis too.
