Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

Especially when what you're predicting winds up being the polar opposite of what actually happened. Some people just take politics way too seriously and won't read past the headlines or wait for more than five minutes before jumping to an extreme generalization, and when your generalization is "We have no idea what's really happening yet but fuck you anyways" and it's directed at people in the thread, you can't really be surprised when that causes people to, in turn, call you an idiot.

All I can say is that, based on this behavior, I hope Cosmos is not one of the staff Null is listening to when it comes to AnH They have an obvious political axe to grind.
 
Yes, let's witchhunt the staff for wrongthink. That's something awful we haven't seen before and I'm sure it will end well.
 
This thread, and by extension adding (more) moderation to A&H, was a mistake.

I said in a different thread (I think), I have no problem with the staff, and think @Cosmos is really nice when she isn't talking about politics. That seems to be her Autilles Heel, but everyone who signs up here has one of those. I don't think that she's a bad person when she gets into politics, but I think she sometimes says things that people find rude, and gets mad when they are rude back. I really enjoy her other posts, though. So I hope she stays. :heart-full:

I do have a problem with some people in this thread wanting people banned for disagreeing with a mod about politics, or whatever, or neg-rating them. I did rate Null MotI in the Iran thread, but I wasn't trying to insult him. I thought MotI was basically saying the person needs to chill.

Aww, thank you! I'm glad you think that and I left a good impression on you.

I truly don't mean to come across as rude when I talk about politics, but I just get very passionate about issues I care about. Some (not all) of the posters on A&H come across as cruel and indifferent about topics I'm invested in (such as the environment, healthcare, and bigotry) so that gets me riled up. Plus, not everyone on A&H argues in good faith and those people are usually more interested in /pol/ posting than getting a new perspective or debating respectfully. It's a shame those people have become such a vocal minority; I'm an oldfag so I remember when A&H had actual discussions and people didn't instantly hit the "Dumb" rating for opinions they don't agree with (I don't care about angry stickers, just pointing out how the general atmosphere has become a lot more disrespectful).

Do you think it's possible that there are others in your position who don't mean to come across as rude, but do so because they're passionate as well? I agree the /pol/-tier shitposting can get boring but it seems a little silly to hope that people forgive your sperging while not extending the same grace to the other autists here.

"Good faith" is not something that you can judge unless you're god; I don't think it's a very useful heuristic but it sure is a great way to dismiss opinions that I don't like hearing.

NB: I generally agree with your politics from what I can tell. I like you, you're lovely, but I think offering grace before you ask it is more effective than vice-versa.
