In pictures, they can pass. IRL, not usually. Even mannish looking women act like women. Troons still have the mannerisms of men no matter how much plastic surgery they've had or how much make up they have on. And usually their voices and pattern of speech are a dead give away. Generally because they attempt to imitate every stereotypical feminine characteristic they can think of.

Will 1 in 1,000 completely pass as a woman and never get clocked? Maybe. But the number of troons who slide into the bathroom without anyone suspecting it is very, very small. Just because women don't call them out doesn't mean that they don't clock them. They just know there is a chance they will literally get their teeth knocked out if they say anything so they generally just try to get out as quickly as they can.

How many transmen out there completely pass as men? There are a lot of feminine guys out there, too, but trans men don't usually look as masculine as them. They aren't fooling as many people as they think they are.

We've been through this song and dance a couple of times, but yeah, plenty of troons "pass" in heavily filtered still images. It extremely rare for a troon to actually pass in the flesh though, namely because of things like voice, height, and proportions. Troons with voices close to natural female ones, who are 5'8" or under, and who don't have fridge-bodies are rare. This is usually the point at which someone will bring up that Asian troons can usually pass better-- but only Asian troons living in the United States. Asian troons in Asian countries are probably just as easily clockable by other Asians as white troons are for us. Also, troons in east Asian countries usually don't lie about their biological sex and aren't running around demanding accommodations.

The fact of the matter is that even if you're a short guy, passing still takes quite a bit of work-- work which troons are often unwilling to do. Voice training, learning about makeup, learning how to walk in high heeled shoes, acquiring a sense of fashion, and learning how to style their hair or wig are just things troons have no interest in. For biological women, knowing about those things isn't necessary because even the butchest bulldyke is still obviously a woman. But for troons, if they don't do all that stuff, they don't pass. Kind of goes to show you how integral fifties-esque gender stereotypes are to troons' existence-- stereotypes are all they've got. If a woman isn't a person born with a vagina/uterus, then what else is it? A collection of increasingly outdated stereotypes. A costume. Going to all these pains to make people think you're a woman doesn't make you one. All it does is make people slightly less uncomfortable with you walking around in womens' locker rooms.

Same stuff applies for FTMs-- just replace makeup with body building. Literally the only FTMs I've seen pass are body builders.

There’s a very short very fat fairly young HSTS troon who works at a shop near me and I saw him at a sushi place last night after not seeing him for about a year, and he passes IRL better than any others I’ve seen IRL. He happens to have very pretty healthy long hair and clear skin, and being fat softens things up. He looked pretty much like any other young fat girl in an ugly black goth sacque dress. I mean the second he spoke a single word it was over but I was impressed. He wasn’t trying too hard and being fat and young was good for him. It also helps that people usually ignore fat women. Plus being gay as hell, of course.

But again, what this troon is accomplishing isn’t so much tricking anyone paying attention into passing as a woman. He’s accomplishing being understated enough to pass under the radar so people don’t take that second look that gives it away. That is what troons can accomplish.
