The Pokemon - I really love the new Pokemon this gen. I think this is probably the strongest new wave we've had in a long time. For the first time ever, my final team consisted entirely of Pokemon from the region the game is set in. If you're curious, my final team was Cinderace (first time I've ever picked a fire starter on my first playthrough), Hatterene, Boltund, Corviknight, Drednaw and Obstagoon (technically Zigzagoon and Linoone are Galar forms rather than new Pokemon, but Obstagoon's totally new, so I'm comfortable saying it's a Galar 'mon). Despite the Dexit controversy, I never personally felt like I was missing out on anything because there's still a good variety in the game, but I can see how some folks might. The fact you can catch loads of great Pokemon early on is really good too.
If there's one saving grace of this gen, it's the new pokemon. My team was Cinderace, Frosmoth, Alcremie, Grapploct, Runerigus and Dracovish. In the process of levelling (I kept a full team from the start, and swapped out Pokemon as I levelled) I also used Boltund and Obstagoon. The only Pokemon I ever had on my team from earlier gens was Noibat(and arguably Zigzagoon). Even the fossil have their fans (like me). The only outright flop is Eiscue.

I think the new Pokemon are a big part of why Swsh is in 'You are on this council, but we do not grant you the rank of master' territory for a lot of people. Nobody wants to disavow Snom.

The only outright flop is Eiscue.
Eiscue character design wise is pretty gross but gameplay design wise is pretty interesting. He can safely belly dance in tank form and then get broken out into his sonic speed form and sweep pretty hard, his only real issue is that whoever designed Nu Daramnitan has never heard of balance and designed it to be as cancerous as possible and they both compete for the same mono-ice physical sweeper slot.

Galar's roster is, more mixed than usual for me. It feels like for every new mon I like, there's another that feels boring and uninspired. And I say this as someone who's extremely lenient with Pokemon designs, I can count the ones I legitimately hate on one hand (Cinderace now taking that "top" spot, already disliked it by default but the blatant favoritism it got over the other starters is infuriating).

On the other hand, 3 Galar mons have become new favorites of their types for me.

Centiskorch is my new favorite Fire type. It's a giant centipede on fire, that's badass as hell. Bug types always come out swinging with the coolness factor, and Centiskorch is no exception.

Hatterene is my new favorite Fairy, technically my first as I didn't really have one yet and just had Togekiss as a placeholder. The fact that she's actually a midget with a giant hair "dress" is interesting, but what I love most of all is the fact she will beat the ever-loving shit out of you if you so much as shed a tear of emotion and is so feared many call her The Forest Witch. Now that is how you do a truly fair folk Fairy. None of that pretty flowers and hearts weak sauce.

And finally, my new favorite Steel type and favorite mon in all of Galar, Copperajah. Elephants have always been one of my favorite animals, and I've been wanting one as a Pokemon for a long time. Not a dwarf tire thing, not a pig/mammoth hybrid (though Donphan and Mamoswine are awesome in their own right), a genuine big-ass elephant, and Copperajah delievered. Plus, with its lore of coming from what can only be Pokemon's India-based region in the past, I've been getting hefty Age of Empires nostalgia.

The Galar Region - Despite the praises I sung of some of towns/locations above, the Galar region is my least favourite Pokemon region to date, for one simple reason - it feels small. It feels like there's a lot less exploring to do and the way the region's set out is really weird. While most regions go in a circle or a line, Galar is more like a half-pipe. You go up one side of the map, then come back down and go up the other side. It's a bold attempt to try something new, but it ends up feeling repetitive. I also didn't like the overall atmosphere in Galar much, but maybe that's because I'm from England myself and it felt too familiar. After the Alola region (which I loved), this felt like a serious step down in terms of design and has supplanted Kalos as my least favourite region. No more European-based regions please Nintendo, it's just too depressing. Also, England does not have a (sand) desert and I hate desert areas, so this would've been the perfect game to leave it out of.

This is probably the worst aspect of the game for me. You're not given room to actually explore much of anything outside of the wild area. And even once you learn that, you find yourself simply running laps just seeing if anything different has popped up since your last trek over.

Putting in more caves or making the Dynamax "dens" something you could go into and find stuff would have been a major plus. As is now the entire game outside the Wild Area just feels Point A to Point B. Splitting up the regions with two or three similar open field areas would have been a huge plus.

Mawile cries in the distance
I don't count the retconned Fairy types. And Mawile is questionable as a Fairy type to begin with. It feels more like a Dark type given the lore of its yokai inspiration (a woman with a gluttonous mouth on the back of her head that grumbles spiteful things to her) and they just made it Fairy because it looks somewhat cutesy.

Honestly I question it’s steel typing more. Like, I know it’s because the mouth and teeth are supposed to be metal, but it doesn’t come across in the design at all. Dark/fairy would have been an interesting typing for it.

Well, when you put it that way, that makes what I was going to say pretty silly, because:

Wigglytuff always looks like it wants to eat me after luring me in with its cute looks.

would they be added to later games at some point, or are they just there to tease the player with something they can't have?
Added later on of course but oh... Even in that scenario i can't bring myself to hope they wouldn't mess up
They have 18 games that aren't Pokémon under their belt (Archive), and none of them are particularly popular. The only ones you might hear about here and there are Pulseman and Drill Dozer. And their latest attempt was an outright failure. Considering this, I don't think Game Freak has any chances outside of Pokémon.
Well i liked Smart Ball when i played it

Unrelated but which type do you prefer? Me i prefer Dark type since i caught my first Houndoom back in the original version of Gold

If I had to pick a favorite out of the new Pokemon, I would pick Toxtricity. I like its design and typing, as well as the fact that its signature attack involves twanging a guitar/bass guitar to inflict damage.

Centiskorch, Grapploct, Dragapult, Boltund, and Sandaconda are some other new favorites. I also almost hate to admit it, but I'm starting to warm up to Mr. Rime.

On a similar note, I didn't care for Inteleon when I first saw it, but I've started to warm up to it as well.

Ghost type is my personal favorite, with Dragon in a close second. Gengar, Giratina, Lunala, and Chandelure (for all the flack this 'mon gets, I think it's pretty awesome) are some of my favorite Pokemon, and others like Cofagrigus, Dusklops, and Alolan Marowak rank high on my list.

Flying. I've always loved birds and creatures that fly in general. Bug is a close second since they've always been the underdogs, and short of Kalos (where all you get is the route 1 butterfly) there's not one region that didn't add one that I wholeheartedly adore.

I was looking at doing my first Monotype run, and I saw X/Y poison was apparently a good starter.

“Poison? I don’t like poison. Well, I do like Bulbasaur. And Roserade. And Scolipede. And Poipole. And Dragalge. And Nidoran. And... huh.”

Electric, love Pokémon like Ampharos, Luxray, Electivire, Zebstrika, Joltik, etc., but mainly because electricity is awesome, plus Electric-Types tend to be pretty fast.

Welcome to Spikemuth, home to... A single pokecenter and street.

Seriously, that was SUCH a missed opportunity for a wicked looking town, a town shouldn't just be a gym - And while there are some real pretty things here, you'd think that they'd do a bit more. Hell, have the Gym Leaders not be at the gyms at first, like have them be out in the area/town doing things. Not only would that humanize the Gym Leaders a bit more and possibly flesh them out, but you'd also break up the mundanity of going to town, go to gym, beat the leader, now go rest my avatar.

Fairy Type is my favourite. Before that existed it was Ghost but now that there's a type specifically for magic legend creatures that shit is my jam. Also Aromatisse isn't as ugly as everyone says it is, it's just a thicc Plague Doctor.

Grass starter into psychic has been my route since gen 1; Leech seed + sleep + poison is a fun time.

Still mildly irritated abra and spiritomb didn’t make the cut this gen.

I got to say fighting. Aside from blaziken, fighting pokemon such as Medicham, Hariyama and The Hitmon Trio have a special place in my heart. Not to mention the powerful moves the typing has have some form of downside from using them (Superpower and High Jump Kick are a few examples).
