Cinematic Venom did a video on the downfall of #ChangeTheChannel, and oh boy. https://youtube.com/watch?v=L8yrXbHtW6s
This video is an absolute mess.
Two hours of CV talking as fast as he can and saying as little as possible.

Notes:
CV had to issue a list of apologies to Holly before he was considered a good enough person to be involved in Change The Channel.
This makes Holly look like an insane moral gatekeeper and it makes CV look like an absolute cuck.
This might also explain why CV feels like he "earned his position" as a CTC liaison.

I'm 18 minutes in and he's apologizing for saying transgenderism is a mental illness, and calls anyone who disagrees arrogant and ignorant.
(Comments are disabled so nobody can ask the obvious question: "If transgenderism isn't a mental illness, then what are the prescribed treatments supposed to be treating? A physical deformity? Well you're not actually changing anyone male/female or vice/versa, so it's all meant to appease a mental desire. How could it not be an attempt at treating a mental illness when the entire physical side of the "ailment" is virtually untreatable?")
20 minutes in and he's defending being pro-life. (Okay?)

22 minutes and he's saying he's not a misogynist because his girlfriend makes all the money and bosses him around (like he's a cuck)
This includes screenshots of texts he sent to an ex girlfriend apologizing for being an asshole, which just comes across as really cringey and pathetic.

25 minutes and CV claims that "the entire point of change the channel" was to get CA and CTC all in on one big conference call so they could all talk to eachother and "listen".
I doubt that, considering nothing of the sort was mentioned by Lupa or Marzgurl either during the creation of the document or their videos about the document afterwards.
Also if you pause the video and read the texts CV is sending to these people, he doesn't just talk about them "listening", he's talking about them "finding a middle ground", whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean.
Erod finally blasts CV for behaving like a "good will ambassador" and messaging everyone and trying to arrange calls despite really not even being a part of the controversy.
(Oh c'mon Erod, CV EARNED that right by cucking out to Holly, can't you relate?)
I have to defend Erod here (ew) and say that it's creepy how CV takes it upon himself to vindicate Holly being being called a "vindictive liar."
He's clearly using her grievance as his leverage for urging communications, and Holly's not going to complain about this because she can just hide behind the idea that a ex-fan is "expressing justified outrage against abuse".
But, at the same time, Holly is directly feeding CV terms for negotiation (like a public apology) which he then puts into his stock "let's all get together and work this out" messages, and CV says "I talked to Holly about all this" as a way to namedrop authority.
Important to note: this apology is expected before any conference calls.
And again, what "compromise" or "middle ground" is to be achieved from this call is completely unknown.
Money? Well that's funny, since CV told Erod he wanted to give CTC money he made off the documentary, and Erod told him not to.
How considerate of Erod (a person who had almost as little to do with the Anniversary movies as CV himself) to just declare that people like Holly, Lupa and Linkara don't deserve any money from a documentary made about their grievances, what a great pal.

28 minutes, CV claims that Erod is quoting To Boldly Flee ("a movie that psychologically and mentally and emotionally destroyed all of my friends") when he says "Nobody reviews lamps like you do" to Linkara, problem is, it isn't even a quote from the fucking movie, it's a Linkara-specific meme.
Not to mention that's a ridiculous overstatement. TBF sucked, but "psychologically destroying" anyone in the cast? Come on.
CV then claims Erod is ripping off Channel Awesome when he rips off the Avengers-style camera spin.
Just...fuckin hell man.
Doug did not invent "This will look awesome in the trailer!", and Erod did not steal that gag from Doug.
Make better arguments.

30 minutes, After Erod and CV break up, CV makes a video defending Erod and sends a link to Erod's wife with the passive aggressive message:
"Best not to tell him or show him- I don't wanna piss him off again lol"
CV you are so fucking creepy.

33 minutes, Holly finally turns against CV, she says most producers didn't even like him, and that retweeting him doesn't prove any friendship.
CV reveals a lot of private correspondence in this video and you'll miss a lot if you don't pause to read it, including this lovely little 2-act play:

cvgoofs.jpg

"I'm going to make sure this gets a lot of attention,
oh shit, now you're getting a lot of attention , my bad, I'm so sorry,
t'was never my intention! Teehee!"

Holly turning against CV is pretty funny because afterwards she still basically accuses him of being a racist.
He cucked out and apologized for nothing, what a typical story.

36 minutes, Erod's wife finally turns against CV, claiming he "put me in the hospital" with psychological damages (eye roll).
This happens after CV put out a video claiming Erod treats his fans like shit, using silly examples from Twitter where he responds passive-aggressively at people.
Holly texts CV and chastises him for going after what she calls "a family".

46 minutes, CV sarcastically defends himself by saying "Oh yea, one day I woke up and decided to turn against the people who helped make my channel huge".
Kinda seems that way, since any time anyone complains about him going after anyone in CTC, his defense is always "What, like they did to Channel Awesome?"
CTC created a monster out of CV, a sperg willing to use their own standards for what constitutes "horrible behavior" against CTC themselves.
It would be funny if it wasn't so fucking boring... don't know if I can get through this....

48 minutes, CV is still defending his honor by talking about PewdiePie, showing an uncensored clip of 'the bridge incident' (Hah! Classic.)
"I never defended this! I just defended him against the anti-semitic stuff" yawwwn who cares...
PewdiePie apologized and he's still around so everyone should accept apologies and get over anything, is that the point?
I can't tell, I'm falling asleep....

55 minutes "I'm not a racist!" zzzzzz.......
I've officially lost all hope in this being anything but garbage.
I give up.

My takeaway was that #ChangeTheCHannel is full of people that are two faced, petty, hypocritical, childish, insufferable, love the smell of their own farts, and bitter. So fucking bitter. I think ERod looks like the worst out of this because he's all the aforementioned traits along with a helping of being perpetually stuck in 2008.

The more time passes, the more I actually have sympathy for Doug and Brad for having to deal with these people.

Okay, next day, I'll try to get through the second half of this miserably stupid video.
This is a video called "The Downfall of Change The Channel", by the way.
So far it's just CV defending himself from things Holly and Erod (and his wife) said about him.
This is NOT even a "takedown" video of Change the Channel.
It's simply CV raging against these three individuals.
For that reason I understand why this post would be moved to another thread, CV just clickbaited again.

One important point to help understand this:
Cinematic Venom's only connection to ChangeTheChannel is a very weak friendship (now gone) between him, Holly Christine, and Erod's wife Marsha.
CV and Erod's wife met when she noticed CV making negative videos about Erod, she posted an angry comment, he apologized and they ended up being friends, and he eventually befriended Erod himself, who provided a video cameo appearance as thanks for a cash donation.
(Similar to the "fued/friendship" between Nostalgia Critic and AVGN, but without the humor)
If it seems like the relationship dynamics between Erod and his wife makes no sense, they just don't, she continues chatting with CV after Erod makes it clear he hates him and wants nothing to do with him. I can't tell ya why, all these people are weird.

1 hour in he's still defending himself from Holly's accusations of racism.
Then plays a montage of random celebrities saying the word "nigger" uncensored.
This montage somehow proves CV is not a racist, since those guys said the word and they're not racists.
If I was cynical I'd say that's just a clever way to have the word "nigger" in your video a bunch of times to be edgy, but oh well, don't care.
Why should I? Isn't this supposed to be about CTC?

cv_vs_ca.jpg

1hr4m and he's finally getting somewhat back on topic, showing his stupid tweet and apologizing for it.
He blames his anxiety for acting like a jackass "That was wrong. I was just angry!".
CV does this a lot by the way, I didn't think to mention that until I realized he does the same thing for every stupid thing he apologizes for.
It's like a post here said, it's that specific type of anxiety that doesn't stop you from saying really stupid shit in public but it kicks in once anyone has a problem with you acting like an asshole, suddenly it's "muh anxiety did that, leave me alone, i apologized, stop before my anxiety strikes again!"
He didn't delete the tweet by the way, I checked, it's still up, so I guess he's not THAT sorry about it.
https://twitter.com/CinematicVenom/status/1157959413908606976
(archive link: http://archive.ph/vf2Wq)
deletedthetweets.jpg

This screenshot is part of a MASSIVE apology text, and despite literally saying "you don't need to reply to this", CV gets mad when Holly doesn't reply to this.
Why did he expect her to reply anyways?
Anxiety, he says.
Anxiety made him say "you don't need to reply", but since Holly is "an advocate for mental health", she should have known he didn't really mean that, and she should have replied anyways.
He says this.
(I wouldn't reply either, he's being such a stupid creep.)

1hr6m - Holly goes on Twitter distancing herself from CV further, doubling down on calling him a sexist racist. CV responds by playing Lindsey Ellis's (deleted) Rape Rap, as a "gotchya", but also just to pad out the video length with more of edgy stuff CV says he hates and opposes.
If Holly doesn't disown Lindsay, she shouldn't disown CV either.
"THIS IS YOUR LOGIC!", CV claims.
CV defends himself against accusations that he pushed his way into CTC by saying it's the same thing as Erod pushing himself into CA.
Uh okay? Yes, you're both equally as pathetic and cringey, that's not a defense for yourself.
Is that your point? "They're all as bad as me, and that's why they suck!" Hey maybe.
justlikeca.jpg

"Blocking people for no reason? Check!
Ignoring mental health? Check!"
. . .
1hr13m CV doesn't stop messaging Holly, using friends and alt accounts to evade being blocked.
Again, CV using CTC to justify his own spergery, Holly really did create a monster that turned against her.
hollymonster.jpg

Well yeah Holly, because you sent CV out with your blessing to continue pressing the issue along with your own personal demands.
CV says, out loud, that he uses your encouragement, as well as Marzgurl, Erod, and Linkara's, to justify his sense of personal involvement with CTC.
You helped create this.

1hr18m
ummwhat.jpg

Oh great, CV is ranting at his computer while some small confused child is just wandering around the room.
I'm already losing my patience but at least I caught that embarrassing moment.
A child's hand is visible in some more cuts, but only fingers.

1hr20m "The part that really hit hard, was this." Some substance, finally?
Holly triples-down on disowning CV, voicing complaints people had with him and that his apologies weren't genuine.
"I felt it was in the spirit of CTC to accept those apologies" Holly says.
Amazing, CV really did exploit Holly's demands of an apology from Channel Awesome in order to get close enough to pursue his own interests.
What a couple of snakes.
Erod's wife joins in the dogpile.

erodblockhim.jpg

erodblockhim2.jpg

Gotta agree here.
CV thinks these screenshots make him look good, but if you ignore his rambling and just look at them, he sounds ridiculously needy.
Not like his rambling helps much either...
CV promised Erod's wife he wouldn't be making anymore videos about Erod.
CV then used rude tweets Erod wrote to fans as an excuse to make another Erod video.
Erod's wife then claimed CV "sent me to the hospital" with an anxiety attack by breaking his promise.
CV doesn't deny he made the promise, he just says the tweets were too important to ignore, and besides, CTC has no right to complain since "highlighting bad behavior" is what they're all about.
"I made a video about your husband. By this logic I can now say my girlfriend is depressed and it's your fault."
(At this point he could and I wouldn't be surprised.)
erodblockhim3.jpg

bla bla Erod's wife triples-down against CV.
Shout out to the guy who said Erod's wife gave herself a seizure by going to see the Incredibles, you deserve a beer.

1hr31m - In a surprising moment of self-awareness, CV admits he engages in a cycle where he abuses people, gaslights them, victim shames them, apologizes, and then does it all over again. "This is true."
A normal person would probably stop there, but not CV, who says "It's weird coming from you."
CV then sends Erod's wife another apology text, she doesn't respond. The creepiness is palpable at this point.
CV then claims he doesn't have a big ego by stroking his own ego for several minutes, bragging about collaborations with people with very few subscribers.

1hr40m - Lupa makes the mistake of getting involved in a tweet, CV immediately latches onto her.
Lupa takes a reasonable approach: "Erod was being rude, but making a video about it started too much drama"
CV immediately tries to shame Lupa for including embarrassing things about Doug in the CTC document.
This cycle just plays itself out over and over again.
CV does shitty thing, someone in CTC complains about it, CV then picks something CTC did and says he was just doing the same thing and therefore they shouldn't complain about it.
Seek help CV, your logic doesn't work.
"Has everyone in change the channel just purchased really tight underwear??! JESUS!"
They just don't like you anymore CV, that's what changed, get a clue.
"This whole movement can go fuck itself!" CV writes in a tweet.
It then cuts to him saying "I was in a bad place!" I'm sooooooo bored of hearing this excuse again.

1hr45m - CV sends emails to all his associates saying he feels bullied by CTC and now he knows "what it feels like" to be bullied so he's really sorry now, but nobody forgives him.
Suede messages CV asking him to repost the documentary, and he does.
CV then complains about "the endless amount of hate" he still gets on Twitter.
CV writes a long tweet chain denouncing CTC "with tears streaming down my eyes" admitting that he's begging "SCREAMING!" for help. . .
CV, hey, if you ever read this, stop cry-tweeting you cringey creep.
badrunin.jpg

CV: "SHE COMPLETELY IGNORED THE FACT THAT I WAS THINKING ABOUT KILLING MYSELF!"

uggghhhhh WHY DID YOU MAKE THIS VIDEO.... almost done... I can get through this...

It suddenly turns into a MRA rant about how nobody cares about suicidal men and only suicidal women.
Oh here's a good part.
The only person involved with Channel Awesome who responded to the suicide-bait with kind words was...

Guru Larry.

10 minutes left and the one and only decent person in this story is finally revealed.
CV, being the absolute cunty dumbshit that he is, spits on Guru Larry anyways because he's still part of CA as a joke.
He even admits he knows it's a joke, but still bashes him for it. Toppest act.

1hr53m - From here onward the audio fucks up and goes in and out of sync with the video. Only masochists like me got far enough in the video to notice that, I guess.

1hr56m - CV fires back at Lupa, showing her meltdown tweets from when she removed Brad from all her videos.
Yeah, Lupa is a sperg, but this just more vindictive "you did this so why can't I do it too" shit.

2hr - "This video isn't to convince anyone "look at me I'm a decent person" it's to explain these people have lied."
Sorry CV, I watched your whole stupid video and clearly the only person who lied here is you.
"I'm not going to apologize for who I am, and I'm not going to apologize for my humor."
Hey look, a lie.
You just documented yourself denouncing and apologizing for every single edgy joke Holly told you to apologize for, because you knew that if you didn't, you couldn't get any access to CTC, you opportunistic ninny.
"I'm done with you all."
Good riddance.

Despite being unsubbed Doug's latest commercial video popped up in my recommends. I've been known to watch those vintage ad compilations on youtube so I dived in, sped up and double tapping through all his BS skits of course. Some things of note:

  • Doug is desperate to flex that he rents a studio space that he doesn't need. The main shot is framed so he's taking up the middle 3rd of the screen and the other 2/3rds is studio background. Why wouldn't he sit closer to the camera? So much dead space simply existing just to be like LOOK I'M NOT IN MY OFFICE ANYMORE AM BIG DIRECTOR MAN.
  • Doug brought on a special guest, Michael Salvatori, who composed the Flintstones kids vitamin jingle. Doug proceeds to shit on him the entire time as part of a joke that he doesn't know who he really is (a famous composer). I felt bad for the guest, I have no idea why he'd agree to be on this show. Doug could have actually done an interview and given us good interesting content on this dude's time in the industry but no, he kicks him down a hole spends the whole episode trying to ditch him.
  • There were so many shitty skits and Doug animations. I can't speak to those because I quickly skipped them but man it seemed excessive.
  • During the vintage Star Wars lightsaber ad Doug mentions the sabers looking like condoms, but then goes one step father and specifically says "you could go in your dads drawer and make one for yourself" or something to that effect. Meaning Doug is not addressing people his age or even adults. He is addressing his viewers as if they are children still living at home who would not have their own condoms. So Doug is either consciously aware he expects his audience to be made entirely of children, or he is so emotionally stunted himself he thinks of condoms in the context of something only dads have and not adults....like him. Doug is married. Doug does not have children. Doug still thinks of condoms as something he stumbled on once in his dads nightstand. Let that sink in.

Man, if the FTC tries to shut Channel Awesome down under COPPA, this scene will be humiliating no matter how Doug spins it. If he pleads the former, he'll be fined thousands for appealing to children, but if he pleads the latter, his reputation will be so shot that he'll never escape the Nostalgia Critic again. I mean, not that he was ever able to escape NC but this would just reaffirm it.

Even covering it makes you a moron.
Aside from embarrassing himself, Cinematic Venom showed what happens when you try to apply the "angry reviewer" shtick to real life events.
He takes conversations, like scenes, out of their context and replaces it with a context the "reviewer" has total control over, while the main character (himself) is granted magical plot armor (anxiety excuses) and the internal logic of the characters (people) are self-contained within the story (the CTC narrative) where anything outside of that narrow set of behavior must constitute a "plot hole" and ridiculed the same way Nostalgia Critic rips apart a bad movie... like mirroring Doug is all he knows how to do and it just doesn't work here.

Either way, this is indeed one of his most poorly timed and horribly thought out attempts at comedy ever.

CVs whole video: muh anxiety muh mental health, how dare they not care about that. Anyway here’s why I can say faggot and nigger and no one’s allowed to be upset about it.

What a bunch of fucking losers. Although it does show what happens when a company is run and staffed by people with no real-world experience and a massively inflated sense of self importance.

CV is a perfect example of why you shouldn't become THAT involved in a situation you actually aren't part of and speaking the "truth" as if you were actually there. He really should have stayed a third party and just did a more neutral statement on it like how DTRH did when they read the doc.

The fact that CV was railing on Guru Larry is just absolutely disgusting. The guy is doing it for a joke (the commitment is very strong as we can see) and if anything is like the only good person IN this entire debacle. I know it's minor for what CV is saying as a whole but when you're trying to spark stuff with one of the heartiest dudes on YT you know you got some issues.

What I'm gathering from this entire thing is that Channel Awesome is such a black hole of incompetence that even covering it makes you a moron.
Sure. Why not?

About the studio: the doc said that it wasn’t soundproofed properly so they can only film in certain parts of it. Maybe that still holds true. As for the vitamins guy, I’m just hoping that this is part of the Critic persona and Doug has some OOC interviews with him or some shit. But I’m probably being too optimistic.

True, but it was 2008. Their peak was at the start of a new decade, seemingly a new era of the internet. And they were together in this new frontier. And if you want Linkara’s take, they were like a family sharing all the highs and lows.

(At this point he could and I wouldn't be surprised.)

bla bla Erod's wife triples-down against CV.

"Has everyone in change the channel just purchased really tight underwear?‽ JESUS!"

Dude not gonna lie my brain started to fuzz over at like the half way point. It was just a bunch of nothing disguised as a video essay.

You'd think after all these years Doug would have put in some effort into making the studio look like an actual studio and not just some big apartment.

What I'm gathering from this entire thing is that Channel Awesome is such a black hole of incompetence that even covering it makes you a moron.

IMO channel awesome and in extension Doug are both lolcow magnets. He has an odd ability to attract weirder individuals than himself. This seems to extend to both his fans and his critics.

To be fair on the last point, I think Doug was sarcastically acting as the people that made the lightsaber commercial, which was for a product intended for kids. Maybe I'm being too optimistic, but I feel like it didn't have any meaning beyond that.

And I doubt Salvatori would have agreed to do the video unless he approved the material...good God I hope that's the case.
