I wouldn't really cite Konami as a proper handler, they mishandled so many other things that by the end all they really had left was metal gear.

Suikoden is dead, Castlevania is dead, they took on no licenced properties, everything that made Konami popular they jettisoned and Metal gear was the last to go.

Kojima helped with Sony's other projects so it wasn't just a blank check to do whatever. Horizon Zero dawn had his involvement and now that's spawning a sequel.

If traversal is involved enough, I can get into this game. I especially enjoy abstract plots in jap works -- Killer 7, Paprika, Paranoia Agent, and Silent Hill to name a few. Haven't played either MGSV Ground Zero or Phantom Pain, so I'm somewhat interested to see Kojima's take on an open world here. It also helps that I'm cribbing the game from a buddy of mine.

People including the "gaming press"are really trying to frame this game, based on some statements Kojima made as being a reaction to "the election of Trump and Brexit". He just brought those up as examples of issues that are very divisive.

Kojima isn't subtle with his games at all but he's coming from a much more genuine, well meaning point of view than a lot of Western game devs do with their games, these days, which is fueled mainly on spite and "owning the chuds".

The game is going to be divisive because it's like the Opposite of what happened to From Software. From originally made overly technical games like armored core that appealed to a very very slim group of people. It wasn't until Demon's Souls and later Dark Souls did they hit the mainstream with more refined combat, a very structured and detailed world to explore and find secrets in, and stuff that generally appealed to larger groups of people. The Souls games in general are not overly technical from a gameplay perspective, there's no micromanaging shit at all. There's general stats that are easy to see and understand and that's it.

This is going in the opposite direction Kojima is going from metal gear which appealed to many people to Death Stranding. DS is about managing weight limits, balancing shit, making structurally sound loadouts. All shit that doesn't have wide appeal. It's got a ton of shit in menus to manage what you want down to the letter. The customization options for the parcel loadouts are more complex and deeper than what Armored Core had for it's mechs. This is not an exaggeration, the only other thing I can think that comes equal to is Kerbal Space program's spaceship/rocket builder.

Nah, Dwarf Fortress and Minecraft have arguably more complex things that you can set up.

So I just watched YongYea's review of it. And a thought occurs to me....
Review copies were given out a full three weeks before November 1 because of the finish clause in the review. I'm wondering if the "professional" reviewers waited until the last minute to play through it, given that I've seen nothing but praise coming from the semi-professional YT reviewer crowd

He should have worked in Hong Kong too. Missed opportunity.

Most of what I've seen is people ripping into IGN's review of the game and some of the dumb people have said in defense of the game. I fully expect and incoherent story that is buried beneath an infinite stream of metaphors that for the most part only make sense to Kojima. Even observing the gameplay it looks like it has less going on in it than his previous work but as we've seen with artist's like George Lucas as an example they can create a mess if they aren't supervised.

YongYea is a hardcore Kojima fanboy, so I recommend taking his review on DS with a grain of salt.

With George Lucas we (At least I) hate the new shit. I look back at the new Disney movies years later and realize that George was the heart of the story. Even as bad as the prequels are, they have some magical meme material now.

You can remove the Kojima from the Metal Gear but we get Metal Gear Survive, so I guess we still need an absolute mad man at the helm to get us some weird good shit.

But I am probably definitely wrong and they need to be trad wrangled properly.

Looking forward to the release and, that people been pointing out, the reception of an unconstrained Kojima as his game already are very weird, while having other people keeping him in check, I will suspect this will either have pages of discussions, or people will get too bored balancing shit while going mountain climbing, and never finish it.

Well either way I will be entertained, of either salt or interesting discussions.

There's no collecting 900 korok seeds so it's already better than Breath of the Wild in my book.
I want to see how many fucking metroid exceptional individuals jump on this game for making you feel lonely, isolated, and alone which for decades they championed as being one of the purposes of the Metroid Series.

If this had a Nintendo logo on it they would be creaming their pants.

And I entirely believe this because I remember how people championed Zombi-U.
Is it even possible for you to not bring up Nintendo whenever a Sony related game gets even minor negative feedback? I mean, damn, I'm not a big fan of BotW, but you're like the worst posters on /v/.

Personally, this game really doesn't look like it's my type of game, so I'm ready to bow out and just not play it. But people attacking the few outlets who said "meh, it's not my thing" are dumbasses. IGN's review was probably the only hard-hitting review of theirs that I've seen in ages. We're just so used to Cawl of Dutay 9/10 reviews from them that it looks like they're being unduly harsh, when maybe this game really is a 6.5 depending on your tastes.

Not to mention a handsome Chad that'd fuck their western girlfriends.

Can't wait until half a year from now, when loyal kojima fantards are no longer able to defend his shite game design choices and people start ripping into how terrible this game actually is

:drink:

It's not specifically Nintendo it's Breath of the Wild.

>game with 5 years of development time
>series with 30+ year history
>had to have fucking Monolith and the Xenoblade team spend time to finish it
>gets fucking 10 out of 10's from the Movie Bobs and Dobsons of the world because they emotionally clapped when they recognized things

This is one thing I am not letting go because 72% of the game is fucking seeds (this is true btw). Literally the Nu Wars of gaming because it lacked the substance of what made the past games great and only had surface level bullshit. And they can make interesting open worlds because all the Xenoblade games had them including Torna, breath of the wild was not a good open world game. Even the BOTW DLC was bad while Torna was amazing and fixed the issues the base game had with gatchabullshit and too many meaningless blades.

You don't have to find the seeds. I most certainly didn't. If you wanted to bring up actual fetch quest shit, bring up the fact that the Master Sword is completely optional and requires that you finish a fair amount of shrines. Otherwise, it's a decent game. Definitely not a 10/10, and I prefer nearly every other 3D Zelda over it, but I had fun exploring the world, even if I believe that they definitely need to focus more on dungeons and reduce the size of the map. I bet you'd be the first to defend games like The Last of Us, Horizon Zero Dawn or Uncharted 4 that also got an absurd amount of 10/10s despite also being 7/10 to 8/10 games because you do have a hateboner for Nintendo. One of the posts I quoted wasn't even about BotW, it was you bringing up Metroid out of nowhere.

I didn't really like TLOU because it was a real limited single player campaign and also tied to annoying multiplayer.

HZD was a more refined version of AssCreed and other open world series and really cut the bullshit or tedious busywork out which was really much appreciated and also didn't try and jab at your wallet to buy currency or DLC.

Uncharted 4 I didn't even purchase, I couldn't really stand uncharted 3 and I didn't like uncharted 1 all that much either(every 5 seconds you were thrown into another enemy pit that you had to have a kill quota for before you could progress).

And yes you had to find seeds, leaving no stone unturned in Zelda is part of the whole series. If there are 100 skulltulas you collect 100 skulltulas. Windwaker HD is better than the base game because they fixed the issues with the statue collecting and also cut out some of the tedious parts. Majora's mask had a far more meaningful open world despite being much smaller and being made decades before because everything in it had a significant purpose or lead to something.

not since sonic 06 will we bear witness to such a level of sheer butthurt and autism as the house of kojima tears itself apart over this game

You don't have to find jack shit. I've never collected the 100 feathers in AssCreed II. It sounds obnoxious and boring. I've done the same with countless games. It's optional content for a reason. You literally get nothing from finding the seeds, it's there for the absolute most autistic people so they can explore the world. Beating all the shrines to get the (very underwhelming) Wild set is the actual completionist sidequest. The Korok seed shit doesn't even matter, anyways, it's definitely not what factored into me considering BotW a disappointment. The overabundance of combat shrines definitely did.
