Everyone knows I have reservations about how Rosinante betrayed him, but to be clear, I never had any love for Doffy to begin with. What happened to the Dressrosa citizens was incredibly sad.
Glad the dub is finally starting to make progress again. I need my dub fix, it's how I truly understand these peoples emotions.
Maybe I will change my mind about Rosinante after seeing him in English.
Oh sweet, just in time now that I'm home from seeing Stampede.
I need to gather my thoughts. I think overall it was a fun watch, but I think seeing Gold in theaters would've been the better experience. Probably because Gold is a really good standalone movie, but Stampede is kinda weird. Some people seem to be a bit put-off by the cameos and shout-outs, which are fun and sometimes wiled up the audience, but I feel like something was missing. Nothing too big, but something wasn't present and I don't know what, exactly. Though I can see what Oda meant in that he can see this being a potential ending to the series, given what was introduced (not so much as revealed?) here.
Douglas Bullet I don't think really works too well as a villain? He was considered a hero for his country, but when they betrayed him for something, he wiped everyone out. He was a member of Roger's crew only because Roger actually beat him in a fight, and he had a dream/goal of wanting to defeat him and reclaim his status as the world's strongest man. But then Roger died, and he went so fucking insane that he had to be Buster Called just to get captured by the Marines and sent into Intel Down's sixth floor where not even Blackbeard wanted anything to do with him. Although his Clank-Clank Fruit powers are basically an upgraded Kid's Devil Fruit, I think it was mainly just to show off how flashy Toei's CGI department can get, and it got messy. And a bit underwhelming, I suppose. Buena Festa had more going for him than Bullet, since he has a huuuuge hate-boner for the Great Age of Pirates because it took away from his glory of throwing big festivals, and it was his plan to get all the Pirates together to have them killed in a Buster Call and make Bullet the Pirate King.
Best thing I can take away from this is the fact we got Oda's take on how to spell Raftel: It's Laugh Tale/Laughtale. Oda, you're a sick bastard and I love you. Although there being an Eternal Log Pose to Raftel is kinda dumb, and there's actually an end credits scene where Roger called out a scurvy dog for making it, I think it brought up some interesting questions as to what exactly is the One Piece, since Bullet called the treasure chest the Log Pose was in the One Piece. But Luffy smashing it helps a lot.
I'm still having a hard time figuring out which got the most fanfare: Snake-Man, the appearance of Mihawk, Kizaru, or the visage of Ace at the very end. Biggest reaction the movie got out of me was the Fox Pirates' appearance rofl. That made my brothers happy, since they're the rare Foxy fans.
But my nigga Usopp is MVP. If this movie doesn't make fans forgive him for Water 7 or warm up to him more, then I don't know what will.
I dunno how full the theater typically gets for non-Dragon Ball films, but our showing was almost full, and everyone had fun. I pity the foo's who walked out during the credits, though lol.
Holy shit, this is going to look so good in the anime. Whew, that's a lot to take in, gonna need to do a second read-through later once this flashback's finished.
This was the guy who, according to the Vivre Card Databook (though those have been wrong before so take this how you will) was supposed to have been Arlong's right-hand man, his number 2, though that wasn't really telegraphed in the manga.
A lot of people are noticing a resemblance between him and Koushiro, Zoro's mentor from the East Blue (Kuina's dad), and are trying to see if the timeline matches up to verify it's him (and it actually might depending on how old Denjiro is in this flashback-- it's 41 years in the past and Koushiro is 51 currently).
Personally I wasn't as thrown off by Denjiro (he did look a bit familiar) as much as I was the resemblance between Kozuki Sukiyaki (Oden's dad) and Orochi-- the latter now looks like a caricature of Sukiyaki, and I'm trying to wrap my head around that.

Gold was fun in theaters, the only thing was it was in English where I went. I'm going to see Stampede this week though and thankfully this time it's going to be subbed.
Ye, Denjiro is the only one we haven't seen until now for some reason (people thinking he was Kyoshiro up until now). One theory I read suggested his absence in the present day and presence in the flashback might lead to the traitor reveal (his assassin and someone impersonated him?)
