while I don't necessarily agree it's as easy as lego, watching a video and putting the gpu in the only slot that fits is literal fisher-price tier.
even in the worst case just have a friend build that shit one evening in exchange for a pizza and a few beers.

I'm not saying it's an impossible task, but shrugging it off as something alike of a kid's toy is dumb especially when you're starting for the first time. You can also have components that are quite difficult to assemble, I used to have this CPU cooler from Coolermaster which had very thin bent metal bars (that barely held properly into the fan holes) as a way to fixate the fan into the heatsink. I replaced it later on with a Noctua cpu cooler which used a screw system instead, and boy that was definitely easier to assemble.

But yeah I had a friend explaining me and help building my very first PC.

I'm just not a fan of Nintendo's first-party IP's (Legend of Zelda being a noted exception) and before the Switch, Nintendo has had a reputation for poor third-party support.

The Switch has gotten a lot better selection of third-party titles compared to the Wii U but the Switch is often accused of being under-powered and I don't think it could properly handle something like Cyberpunk 2020, the Final Fantasy VII remake, or the next GTA game.

Nothing wrong with Nintendo's games, but they're just not my cup of tea.

I'm not a fan of Call of Duty either. What is it with hardcore Nintendo fanboys assuming anyone who doesn't like their IP's is some kind of CoD-playing dudebro?

I'm not a graphics hound either. But if I want to play something like the inevitable GTA VI or the rumored Bully 2 and it's not available for the Switch because Rockstar thinks its under-powered, I'll have to get it on a Sony console because PC gaming is fucking expensive.

Traditionally, the main draw of Nintendo consoles are their first-party IP's, and those aren't my cup of tea.

I kinda understand where you're coming from. The main selling point of a Sony console for me is that at least for the lifespan of that console, I'm assured that I'll be able to play the newest games and not worry about recommended system requirements for AAA games the longer it is when I last upgraded my gaming rig. I built my own rig not too long ago and with a not-shoestring budget (but also not blowing wads of money on it), and already I'm worrying how well it's gonna run Cyberpunk come April.

But, horses for courses. If you're not into Nintendo games, no harm there, and I can respect that. We all have our own preferences.

I'd argue the whole "PS4 Pro" thing mitigates that sentiment a bit. I know a few games that were promised to run on the PS4 only work on the Pro. Last Guardian is the only one that I can bring to mind at the moment, but I know there were a few others.

One of the reasons Microsoft is so wary about console exclusives came from their acquisition of Rare. Considering most of the best games on N64 were made by Rare: Goldeneye, Perfect Dark. Donkey Kong 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Conker's Bad Fur Day. So Microsoft is thinking that Rare can work that same magic on their new console...so we get Kameo, Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts, Perfect Dark Zero. Flop after flop. In the end Rare was making the xbox avatar program and some kinect games; they even ended up selling Donkey Kong back to Nintendo..

Nuts & Bolts and Viva Pinata were the 2 beat games on the 360. It’s depressing they flopped so hard, but it’s not Rare’s fault.

I honestly doubt I’ll buy a PS5. The only exclusive on the PS4 that interested me was Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Everything else either came to PC or Switch. Dragon Quest Builders 2 is definitely laggier on Switch, but it’s still great.

What this really means is that I’ll just wait to upgrade my PC till 2021, since that’ll be the new plateau for game specs.

Nah, I tried out of goodness in my heart, I bought a SRW copy to gift someone of out the region, and I can't send it, because the recipient is out of the available regions. Its totally locked in for JP/SEA regions only

steam? they cracked down on that after a while because it caused too many headaches (people buying cheap russian versions, getting scammed asf).
hopefully you can still refund it.

fiddly parts are still easy compared "back then" where you had to figure out what jumpers mean and some coolers could wreck your socket or you your board because they required a retarded amount of force (looking at you, socket 7), with a good chance of killing your hardware if you fucked up.
of course everybody should be aware they're handling expensive electronics. still, these days assembly is much easier with less pitfalls and more failsafes (but then I always handled stuff like that, I assume lot of people simply are not used to it anymore - like there are people that don't even know how to change or fix a bike tire for example).

software on the other hand is where most people will trip up eventually.

Electronics are sensitive to stuff like moisture and static, but probably significantly sturdier in a physical sense than most people imagine. I built my first PC at 15 when YouTube didn't even exist, just paper manuals. It's absolutely doable if you're patient and willing to sit down with the instructions for a couple hours to figure the stuff out. People screw up builds when they get impatient and sloppy, or don't bother reading until they're certain that the parts are going in the right place in the right order.

Heck, I find working on electronics kind of relaxing at this point, after getting so comfortable with them. Unfortunately I now have the reputation as the computer guru among my family and they come to me with software problems, which I'm retarded at. I'll totally build a PC for giggles though if they provide me something to drink.

You know, I don’t have any problem with either fan base, but I will come out and say it: Nintendo fans tend to be kind of infantile and weird compared to other gaymer subcultures.

I think a lot of it has to do with Nintendo's first-party IP's being almost entirely comprised of kiddie games (Zelda and Fire Emblem being the only real exceptions) and the fact that Nintendo was a pathetic punchline in the Post-SNES/Pre-Switch era.

N64 and Gamecube both got fucked up by the massive success of the PS1 and PS2 and a lot of third-party companies had jumped ship during the Gamecube era, forcing Nintendo to rely on their first-party IP's, which only reinforced the whole "kiddie short bus" image they had among most gamers.

While the Wii won the Seventh Generation console wars in terms of units sold, almost all of those sales were in the first two and a half years. The success of the Wii was a "lightning in a bottle" situation where a then-novel gimmick and a low price tag went a long way. The low price tag is very important to point out, because the PS3 had an unusually high price tag at launch, which hampered sales of the PS3.

However, unless you liked sports games or Nintendo's first-party IP's, the Wii didn't have much to offer in terms of the actual games. The Wii outsold the PS3 and Xbox 360, but Nintendo was still mocked by most gamers.

It didn't help that the Wii's lifespan ran concurrent with the peak popularity of the Call of Duty franchise and its clones, which that probably goes a very long way in explaining why the majority of the Nintendo fanbase has such a massive hate-on for the Call of Duty franchise in particular. These people hated Call of Duty before it was cool.

The Wii U crashed and burned and was the first full-fledged failure for Nintendo since the Virtual Boy. Which is why the company relaxed a lot of their censorship policies and third-party developer policies, and they are slowly gaining back their footing and finally improving with the Switch.

I half agree. Nintendo were ruthless fuckheads during the NES and SNES era. Forbidding companies from releasing games on other platforms, promoting censorship, and limiting the number of games a company could release per year on their systems (which is why Konami formed Ultra Games). That also violated free trade agreements. And of course they decided to support cartridges for the N64 (which not only had space limitations but cost more to produce which 3rd parties had to cover) and that was that. Fuck Nintendo. Fuck all the console manufacturers. I legit don't understand how the Switch is successful.

Agreed.

The moment I can save up enough money to make the switch from console to PC gaming, I will. With PC gaming, the real issue isn't the companies, but all those elitist "PC Master Race" spergs. And unlike Sony and Nintendo's antics, you can still enjoy PC gaming while ignoring the more autistic PC gamers.

With Sony and Nintendo, the autism is coming from inside the house.

Youtube meme men who were not alive for the NES and SNES promoting the Switch since it's the first Nintendo system in their lifetime that wasn't a complete dumpster fire.

These same people put the NES and SNES on pedestals higher than soy boys put feminists. They also promote the lie that Nintendo games are financial investment and Nintendo games NEVER go on sale and you ALWAYS make your money back and them some even if you resell.

All of which not true because I bought the vast majority of my Nintendo games on sale and second hand can be even cheaper because gamestop couldn't get rid of all their gamecube discs for pennies after months on end. And I've got quite sizeable collection from the NES games to modern Switch games. NES I have around 60, SNES I have around 90 games, N64 around 100, Gamecube around 140, Wii around 100, Wii-U 20, and Switch is around 20. This isn't counting the DS and GB, and GBA games all of which were fire saled like hell because they were taking up too much room at Gamestop and other retailers. I got like each portable Fire Emblem game for around 5-10 bucks. ToysRus would routinely have discounts on Nintendo games, throughout the whole Wii-U era the only game I paid full MSRP for was Xenoblade Chronicles X. Toys R Us also discounted and sold stuff like the Zelda Anthology for Gamecube for 5-10 bucks because nobody was purchasing gamecubes.

Nintendo's handheld market has always done well, even though very serious people have claimed that handhelds are a dying breed because of mobile (seriously). It's done so well, in fact, that Nintendo's handhelds have basically been a backstop even when their consoles run the gamut from generally all right to great to oh god, when does the hurting stop. For the last 30 years, Nintendo was the handheld market, and the only things that can make a dent in its share are mobile (which gives fundamentally different gameplay experiences) and the PSP (which Sony promptly fucked up with the Vita).

The reason the Switch has done well this generation is multifaceted, but basically boils down to the fact that if you have a PC and Switch, you have basically everything useful available to you. The Switch has doubled down on this by basically centralizing both their console and handheld market to the same console. This is huge in Japan, where portability is the new hotness and everyone uses mass transit, but it's had big gains in the states as well; those who want oldschool consoling can have it, and those who want it as a handheld have that too.

It's not as powerful, but it doesn't have to be; you didn't buy a Switch to play all the newest chocolatey fudge-coated mega games, you have a PC for that shit. Switch is for the cool titles you'll never see on any other platform and the unique exclusives only it will have. Also it's the only console that seems to recognize that you may want to hook up with your friends at some point and play a multiplayer game on the same fucking console, which is nice.

This isn't true the PS4 has this ability, it depends on the game developer though. Sony's first party titles have not been multiplayer outside of Killzone and TLOU.

Handheld mode for switch fucking chugs with large games, Xenoblade 2 and Torna both have issues with performance. Most people in America just leave it in console mode especially after the drifting joycons.

Bring back Banjo to Switch please

Playstation has many good series. Tales, Yakuza, Dragon Quest, etc. Horizon Zero Dawn needs a sequel.

HZD is supposedly getting a Sequel but they've been real quiet on it.

My guess is after Death Stranding is released we'll get a bunch of stuff shown since the PS5 is 2020.

I waited for PS4 Pro...got it Christmas 2016....and now I feel like it hasn't even been long enough and theres already a PS5. I'm stressing 😭

I bought my PS4 at launch and never bothered with the Pro. It's going to be interesting to see what's coming with it. They've been quiet for the later half of 2018 and 2019 supposedly because they're working on stuff. The last time they did this was when they were turning the PS3 around and the other other time they did it was the year before Grand theft Auto 3 was coming out for PS2.

So going by history stuff should be coming, but with BC being a thing there shouldn't really be any real gaps in games. What you buy for the PS4 will work on PS5.

N64 lasted about....6 years?
Gamecube about 7 years.
Wii lasted for 7 years?
PS4 lasted for about 7.
360 lasted about 10?

Actually every playstation has lasted around 8-10 years. PS4 still has stuff slated to be released for it well after the PS5's launch so you're going to be getting stuff well into 2021.

Usually a playstation era ends with one last big RPG either from Bandai or Atlus during the launch window of the new console and then there's just shovelware.
