Why is River City Girls getting hated on? I'm not following it's game or not interested in buying it but for someone who has a special interest in these types of games, what's the deal with it? Something something about Sjdubyas and cringy voice acting but that's all I know on what's wrong with it. Any takers?

Electronic Arts have “won” the title of “Most Downvoted Reddit Comment” thanks to their response to the Star Wars Battlefront II loot box controversy.
For those unfamiliar, Star Wars Battlefront II was plagued by lootboxes and micro-transactions giving those who paid a clear advantage. It was later discovered that unlocking everything would take around 4,500 hours, or $2100 in DLC and micro-transactions.
While all in-game micro-transactions were later removed, the outcry was so great, it was one of the contributing factors to starting the debate by governments whether to ban or regulate lootboxes.
On November 12th, 2017, the EA Community Team representative of the Star Wars Battlefront subreddit posted the fateful comment. It was in reply to a topic where a user complained having to pay around $80 to unlock Darth Vader.
“The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.
As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we’re looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we’ll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay.
We appreciate the candid feedback, and the passion the community has put forth around the current topics here on Reddit, our forums and across numerous social media outlets.
Our team will continue to make changes and monitor community feedback and update everyone as soon and as often as we can.”
The Reddit community then proceeded to execute Order 66 on the post’s score. Posts on Reddit can be “upvoted” or “downvoted”- usually so the community can help curate which posts help discussion or should gain more attention. Posts with a higher score appear higher up in the thread.
On September 6th, user “-amasha-” posted a thread on the Star Wars subreddit, noting that the 2020 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records had added the aforementioned post as the “Most-downvoted comment on Reddit.”

Fun Boring fact: When reddit first started getting big one of the things that they did after obfuscating up and downvote totals was put a cap on downvotes. The reason that EA reddit PR account still has positive karma is because they only count the first 100 downvotes per comment against your total karma score now.

Interesting that they record it as "T_D mod editing comments", when it should say "Reddit CEO admitting to editing comment on T_D"

Here's another amusing downvoted comment... with an interesting, typical reddit reply.

That's one company that would go out of business overnight if nogs stopped buying their rehashed sports games every year for their xboxes.

Friendly reminder that the person with the most karma by far on the website for years was u/violentacrez, who earned it by being the most prominent poster on r/jailbait.

According to Reddit, the best thing in the world is underage girls, and the worst thing in the world is not being able to play as Darth Vader fast enough in their Star Wars game.

That's Reddit in a nutshell for you.

It is a very cynical cash grab at the Scott Pilgrim/Zoomer crowd bought by those who want cute girl beating up both sexes but none of the icky garbage. The ending was also very much "subverted expectations" that modern media would love to do to give you the impression of being smart. Get Fight N Rage if you want a more honest to god beat them up homage

I wonder how many EA community managers quietly quit after that and quit life as well. EA has United Airlines levels of bad pr.

doesn't matter really, they could just replace them with reddit mods, they were already on the payroll anyway.

That sounds more than a little bit illegal. You'd think the FTC would eventually actually do something about this kind of dishonest shilling but apparently not.

And if you take violentacrez out of the equation the guy with the most karma was Ian miles chong, who used to sell his karma to advertisers and used it to prop up his shitty games review site.

Aside from what @BrokenWokenBespoken said, Adam Tierney hasn't done himself any favors as game director or whatever his title is. He's the typical male feminist which likely earned the ire of the other side, but I really do wonder what skeletons are in his closet. He constantly prided himself on this being a feminist work and even defended the game from feminists by saying plenty of women are working on the game and giving input to his script.

He's actually locked his account at present so I wonder what the fuck happened, the reaction to his mediocre game couldn't have been that bad. Other than the choice of VA's being pretty much Game Grumps it's just whatever.

Well that's a shame I had some interest of getting the game but after seeing people thoughts on it I just leave a hard pass on it.
