I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

What the Hell? That's literally like the opposite of the take-away that you're supposed to get from that document's leak. The core finding of that document was that Alt-Right / White Nationalism is on the decline and that's why they're receiving less funding for it now. Meanwhile, groups like Black Identity Extremists (BIEs) are on the rise. What a fucking stupid way to try and spin this.

“The FBI judges BIE perceptions of police brutality against African Americans have likely motivated acts of pre-meditated, retaliatory lethal against law enforcement in 2016 and will continue to serve as justification for violent incidents. While BIEs target white law enforcement officers, all law enforcement officers are considered BIE targets for their participation in this perceived unjust system. BIEs often view African American police officers as race traitors.”

Part of why I do what I do is to see what counterarguments could be made for things I believe in. I do honestly believe in the shit I post, but its getting a little tiring seeing people spaz out for 6 pages over a dissenting opinion (although its still really funny)
I do believe you mean what you say. Fair point about the sperging out though, I among others could be a lot more parsimonious.

Anyway, back to trashing the squad. Did you hear what wacky thing AOC said this week? Haha, what a cuhraaazy libtard
Excuse me she's brown, don't forget to call her a shitskin too.

Why would any other groups in the U.S. be responsible for "race-based" terrorism? It's kind of hilarious that she feels the need to strictly define a subset of terrorism so she can blame white supremacists for it. As a counter example, I wouldn't think white supremacists would generally be responsible for religion-based terrorism. In the U.S., that's more often perpetrated by Muslims. And, even though I don't like Islam, I'm not going to narrowly define religious terrorism just so I can blame Muslims for it.

It reminds me of when the third lesbian was elected to the city council in my city, and her supporters came up with all sorts of stupid, pointless categories for her to be the "first" councilmember who was x, y, and z, because they couldn't claim she was the first lesbian. If you have to narrowly define something to fit a category of your choosing, then it seems like that category is pretty meaningless. If not all domestic terrorism can be tied to white supremacy, then how about not narrowly defining domestic terrorism (i.e. lying) to make your argument?

Why would any other groups in the U.S. be responsible for "race-based" terrorism?

It's sort of like how women say "men are responsible for 90% of rape!" or something, because they've deliberately changed definitions and laws to make it so that it's effectively legally impossible for a woman to be charge with rape (especially of a man). When something only gets classified as "race-based terrorism" when it's a white person attacking non-whites, but non-whites attacking whites is just plain old crime (or, famously, "workplace violence"), then obviously that's going to be reflected in the official statistics.

Or, to put it a more relevant way to Ayohsee's party, it's like when Obama massively decreased civilian casualties from drone strikes... by having everyone killed by a drone strike reclassified as a combatant.

Being neutral isn’t good enough

In today's news, AOC decides to start a tweet war with Dave Portnoy aka Pres the founder of Barstool Sports over the topic
of unions:

Portnoy had tweeted out things like this:

AOC responded:

Portnoy with the slapshot:

Now THIS is entertainment. Barstool Sports and Portnoy are a good foil to AOC. I follow some of their stuff, and
they are pretty funny and are not liked by the woke.

EDIT: One of their part timers, Frank the Tank responded and destroyed a replier with LOGIC AND REASON :sighduck:

For reference, Frank is the beloved jersey sped of the company, but even he see why a union doesn't make sense
there.

Is it actually illegal to fire people for unionizing? I mean I'd think any at-will employment allows firing for pretty much any reason, as long as it's not racism or what have you.

I think it varies state-to-state. Some leftist strongholds probably do have laws stating that if your employees try to strongarm you you're forbidden to do anything but give them a thank-you blowjob, but of course that's only enforced if you're not in good with the Democrat establishment. If you are, like say Michael Moore, or Bernie Sanders, you can union-bust your employees regularly while bragging about how much you support unions and no one will say a word.

Virtually No One In Ocasio-Cortez’s District Has Donated To Her Re-Election Campaign, Report Says

A new analysis of those who have given political contributions to socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's (D-NY) reelection campaign has reportedly found that only 10 contributors live inside her district.

"The FEC only requires that political campaigns disclose the names and addresses of individuals who contribute over $200 to their campaigns during an election," The Daily Caller News Foundation's Andrew Kerr reported. "The $1,525.50 Ocasio-Cortez received from her New York constituents represents less than 1% of her campaign's itemized contributions reported to the FEC in the first half of 2019."

While Ocasio-Cortez has outraised all other freshman representatives, the DCNF found that she falls significantly short of the average amount of money that freshman representatives have raised within their own districts.

"The average freshman representative's reelection campaign received $107,141.29 in itemized contributions from their constituents in the first half of 2019, FEC filings the DCNF analyzed show," Kerr writes. "Ocasio-Cortez's reported in-district fundraising haul of $1,525.50 was just 1.4% of that average."

Far-left Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) also rank near the bottom of the freshman class in terms of financial support they have received from their constituents.

The DCNF's report gives credence to recent polling from within Ocasio-Cortez's district, which found that Ocasio-Cortez is unpopular among her constituents. A door-to-door poll from Stop The AOC PAC found the following:

  • They don't like her. She has a more than 2:1 ratio of unfavorable (50.88%) to favorable (21.37%) in public opinion.
  • They don't trust her. Only 10.75% thought she had their best interests in mind in quashing the Amazon deal – 32.60% said she didn’t.
  • They don't want her. 33.44% are ready to vote against her, and only 13.30% would vote for her.

Poor polling and fundraising from within her own district reinforces the notion that while Ocasio-Cortez has tremendous ability to influence the news cycle and to change what is being talked about it in U.S. politics, she does not seem to have that much political power within her own district.

Earlier this month, Tiffany Cabán, a far-left candidate for Queens D.A., who was backed heavily by Ocasio-Cortez, lost the race for the Democrat nomination to establishment favorite Melinda Katz.

"The pitched seven-week battle for the Democratic nomination for Queens district attorney finally ended on Tuesday, when Tiffany Cabán, whose bid galvanized progressive activists nationwide and exposed deep rifts within the left, conceded to Melinda Katz, the favorite of the state party's establishment," The New York Times reported. "The result was a vindication for the Queens Democratic Party, which was left reeling last year after the defeat of former Representative Joseph Crowley by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez."

In March, left-leaning Vox reported: "A Quinnipiac poll released on Thursday morning found that 23 percent of Americans had a favorable view of the member of Congress, while 36 percent had an unfavorable view — a -13 overall approval rating ... This new poll isn’t a one-off finding. Three prior surveys — one in January from Morning Consult, one in February from Fox, and a third in mid-March from Gallup — all found that more Americans had negative views of AOC than had positive ones."

It's a federal law as far as I know. Since it's federal, I would assume that it only applies to large companies.

Most union busting is completely legal. There's no law against evangelizing against unionization in a company. It's also really difficult to prove retaliation when wannabe unionizers are fired. As a result, that dude bleating about firing his employees on social media is beyond exceptional.

The Latest: Israeli official: Tlaib, Omar barred from entry
JERUSALEM (AP) — The Latest on Israel’s decision to bar two U.S. Democratic congresswomen from visiting (all times local):

6:10 p.m.

Israel’s deputy foreign minister says the government has decided to bar two U.S. Democratic congresswomen who support the international boycott movement from entering the country.

Tzipi Hotovely told Israel Radio in an interview Thursday that “Israel has decided not to allow” Reps. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota to visit as planned.

She says it is in keeping with a policy of denying entry to those who advocate boycotts of Israel.

Her remarks came shortly after President Donald Trump tweeted that “it would show great weakness” if Israel allowed them in.

The two newly-elected Muslim members of Congress are outspoken critics of Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians. Tlaib’s family immigrated to the United States from the West Bank.

5:15 p.m.

President Donald Trump says Israel should bar two Democratic U.S. congresswomen from visiting the country.

Israel’s prime minister and other top officials were meeting to reevaluate the decision to allow Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan to visit next week. Both are outspoken critics of Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians and support a boycott of Israel.

Trump tweeted Thursday: “It would show great weakness if Israel allowed” the Americans to visit, claiming: “They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds.”

Trump has spent weeks now criticizing the members, including sending racist tweets.

The Israeli ambassador to the U.S., Ron Dermer, had said Israel would not deny entry to any member of Congress.

12:25 p.m.

Israel’s prime minister is holding consultations with senior ministers and aides to reevaluate the decision to allow two Democratic Congresswomen to enter the country next week.

A government official said Thursday that Benjamin Netanyahu was holding consultations about the upcoming visit of Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and that “there is a possibility that Israel will not allow the visit in its current proposed format.” The official spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.

The Muslim members of Congress are outspoken critics of Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians and advocates of a boycott against the country. Tlaib’s family immigrated to the U.S. from the West Bank.

Last month, Israeli ambassador to the U.S. Ron Dermer said Israel would not deny entry to any member of Congress.
