I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

I remember reading an article written by P.J. O'Rourke during the Clinton-backed Somalia "food disaster." Basically there are two major groups there. One is split into various tribes who are constantly genocidally warring with each other for reasons that go all the way back to ancient times, and probably have their origins in stolen sheep. the others are the farmers, who are treated as less than bugs by the tribes.

All food that was brought to the country had to be changed into "proper" Somali food, or the people suffering from starvation would not eat it. When asked what a good solution was for the country's problems, an American soldier basically said: "Give them better weapons, and close the borders."

If I'm thinking of the same article, it had (one of many) great quotes from O'Rourke, something to the effect of "Trying to figure out who ruined Somalia is like playing a game of geopolitical Clue. The solution is, it was everybody, with an AK-47, in the toilet."

If you are literally starving to death and refuse to eat food, you don't deserve to be saved. I've eaten rabid dog (apparently the rabies is just in the spine, so cooking the rest is fine), giant forest rat, tarantula, cricket, cat, lizard, and frog because I had to be polite when I was a guest at someone else's house. If a kid obeying their parents can choke down stuff like that, entitled morons can eat MREs to save their lives.

Wait hol up a minute. Do what now?
If you're a below poverty level third worlder, you eat things that you probably shouldn't. And if you are the guest of said third-worlder, you get to too. One of many reasons I hate people harping about the problems poor people face, while on Twitter on their iPhones. They don't have a clue what kind of problems people deal with on a daily basis.

Did you at least wait for them to take a bite before you did?

I had my rabies vaccines, and got boosters once we weren't in the literal middle of nowhere. I haven't died yet. (Though this does probably explain a lot about me, come to think of it)

I get what you're saying, but damn man there's no way I could do that. I'm not a Twitter Commie or anything, don't get me wrong. And, yeah, if I was starving I just might, but holy crap that's terrifying. Like, I'd plow through a plate of fugu before I could bring myself to eat the meat of a rabid dog. Again, I 100% appreciate where you're coming from, I'm not denigrating or dismissing what you're saying.

So is it true about preparing dog to eat you have to do the opposite of most other animals which is a clean swift kill as any adrenaline ruins the meat but with dogs you have to scare the fuck out of them before you kill em?

Yeah, and that's my point. The Somalis were getting food that is miles better than rabid dog, and they didn't want to eat it. What excuse is there?

Hell if I know, I just ate it. I don't remember the taste, just the feeling of "Oh god I hope that rabies isn't transferable this way."

Sorry to derail the thread guys.

A rabies vaccine doesn't inoculate you against rabies it just means fewer shots after exposure and I suspect "not proper" Somali food was just a ruse to get control over the supply and distribution.

One of my Dominican neighbors nicknamed AOC La LLorona-the crybaby-after her parking lot antics. Even her own kind can't stand her.

There is no history of Palestinian or any kind of nation. In fact you may argue none of these muzzies understand the concept of nation.

Palestinians had no concept of themselves as “Palestinians” before Jewish settlers started showing up, they thought of themselves as Ottoman citizens. But it’s common for people to create a national or ethnic identity only after they’re under threat by outsiders. There was really no concept of Europe until Muslims started trying to invade it.

Although a lot of “Palestinians” only migrated to that area in the early 20th century when the economy started booming and there were lots of jobs available. The economy was booming largely thanks to Jewish settlers. Golda Meir pointed that out decades ago, and everyone collectively lost their shit.

A Yemeni was telling me about the demographics of his country and he said Somalis were constantly flooding into Yemen illegally. I asked what they were like and he said "They're like the black people here (US), they don't like to work". I hope the civil war put a stop to that but I bet there's a Somali at the front of the line whenever free food is being given out and then complaining it's not proper food.

As if Yemen doesn’t have enough problems.

There was a movie called, “the curse of la llorona.” It was a horror movie about a ghost that kills children, and the ghost cries a lot. And the ghost is a Mexican woman.

Your telling me they made a movie called the curse of the crybaby? That’s funny. I thought llorona was a female Mexican name. I didn’t think it meant crybaby.

Oh, yeah, La Llorona is an ooooooooooold Mexican folk tale.

They even made a song about it (famously in Disney's Coco):

You've never seen a bunch of Africans not only refuse to eat the food the UN delivers, but then throw it in a pile and burn it before claiming that the UN needs to do something to stop their starvation.

Take a short vacation to Sub-Saharan Africa, say, 30 days. IF you fucking survive, you'll have witnessed the biggest pack of shiftless assholes on the planet, all of whom have BOTH an inferiority complex AND a superiority complex.

One of the things I was told was that Africans have no real sense of tomorrow.

Hell, there's a story about when the UN Forces tried to hand out grain, rototillers, and waterpumps that just makes you roll your eyes.

So THAT'S what happened to all the food purchased by money from Live Aid.
