Meanwhile, if you try to hastily introduce the new 007 and expect audiences to immediately accept her in the grand scheme of a 50+ year series, that's just going to blow up in their faces.

And there's your real problem. After 50+ years a series is well beyond being a zombie. Look at Doctor Who.

I think the introduction of a Diversity Poochie should be seen as the death knell of a series.

Is race/gender swapping the new '......yeah, but this time it's IN SPACE!!' ,of franchise death knells?
Hopefully.

If I was tasked with re-invigorating the Bond franchise I'd hire Quentin Tarantino and give him carte blanche to make a 60's period Bond move, but I suppose they tried that already with Cavill in 'The Man From UNCLE' and that, despite being a really entertaining movie, died a death. So what do I know.

I suppose I better get on with my historical drama about Adele Hitler who decides she is a he and changes her name to Adolf goes completely mad and starts a war, kills millions of one group of people and so on. Simply Hitler was a Transman.

Yeah, the only thing that would be cool with the character would to do a straight adaptation of Fleming's Bond within the time of the actual books.

Show how unbelievably unlikeable Bond actually is. He is a ruthless weapon in the cold war. Do that!!

Bond wasn't really suave, he is a fucking brute...

Yup, I too have also thought that a 60s period piece would be the best place to take Bond.

That style of the old movies but done with modern Hollywood special effects, that'd be rad as fuck.

Have you seen Derpfakes Harrison Ford Solo trailer?

Fuckit, we might as well have Connery back while we're at it. The technology's getting there.

That is something I've thought about as well is it seems like we're fast getting to the point where we can technologically resurrect or make young again actors and actresses.

As bizarre and creepy as it is, it's also really cool and I think they should go for it.

After the shitshow that was Spectre, I'm not expecting anything other than a dumpsterfire.

It's worth noting that they technically rebooted the series with Casino Royale. People will fight about whether the Bonds are the same character, but there was still continuity (albeit loose) between the films from 1962 - 2002, but now Daniel Craig exists in an entirely separate universe that could never be consolidated with the old.

Basically, the writing was on the wall by the end of Brosnan's era, so they got a few more good years out of the series by jumping on the reboot bandwagon. But rebooting the series again? I'm not sure if that's going to work on audiences again.

Also, while Roger Moore was still alive, he wanted to have a meta entry that combined all the previous Bond actors. Wouldn't have been anything Oscar worthy, but it would have been a lot more fun than anything they're planning on putting out.

Well, I think the Craig stuff will always be its own thing. They wanted to do their version of the full career of Bond...

The next Bond will just be medias res with no clear beginning.

Thats kinda how it was before, with the older Bonds, connected through Tracy Bond. But no other plot points carried over...

Personally, I really do believe the series should go back to its roots. They've been toying with doing the actual Fleming Bond with Craig and Dalton. I say do it right(time period/characterization), even if its a one off...

Lol who cares about Bond in current year? He hasn't been good since he went to space.

Those hands...
And here I thought all the comments about it being a trans woman was a joke

All of this news around this new Bond movie just makes me so much more saddened with each passing day. Bond is one of my favorite franchises where it is strangely the only franchise that can be both timeless and a period piece at the same time where the concept of his "toxic Masculinity" already discussed in a discussion with M in the 1995 movie Goldeneye. I don't know what the current trend of making the male character either weak, foolish, or second fiddle to the female in HollyWeird is right now, but doing it to James Bond is a bridge too far in my book.

And it doesn't empower women like they want it to IMHO. The message this sends is that women are only useful when the men are all super incompetent morons.

Though if that were the case, then what is holding women back from power? Honestly this is the same logical fallacies in the film Battlefield Earth where the Psyclos are violent idiots only marginally smarter than cavemen where questions arise on how the hell their society hasn't collapsed in on the sheer amount of violence and stupidity.
