There was a time where the left made a show of claiming to be patriots, just a "different kind" of patriot, and at least acted in a way that it was vaguely plausible. Those of us trying to be reasonable thought the hardcore Religious Right were just being homophobic dicks, and they probably were, but we weren't accounting for the fact that there's a large segment of the left that will never fail to coat their lunch tray in WD40 before taking a running start at any slippery slope they find. Thus the stereotype of the openly America-hating Christ-hating parent-hating unemployed leftist who wants to destroy everything they associate with the greatness of America has come to pass.
