I'd have agreed with this 100%... then I saw a thread on ANN that went many, MANY pages of all their snowflakes freaking out about Darling in the Franxx when a show about kids that get screwed over didn't give the lesbian a charmed life where nothing bad happens to her and she gets everything she wants... in the MIDDLE of the show. Like honestly HALF the cast has unrequited love, but all their little sheep sperged out for weeks because the lesbian isn't allowed to NOT get exactly what she wants, when she wants it.

TBF Darling in the Franxx is relatively new and completely shit. Interestingly, non-doujin artists in general have found themselves just starting a proper manga series on their accounts and then netting serialization deals when it gets popular, so there's no gay gatekeeping like in the west where they need to get their foot in the door first since it just made it so artists had a platform for publishers to browse like a shopping catalog for animators, mangaka and even writers.

Yet even with that, there's still a place for porn artists getting into the field like before and even going directly into making exclusively smut if they so choose. It's almost like Japan has a healthy industry where artists get by on their talents and body of work instead of sucking the right dick and having the right opinions.

It's actually common in the industry for Japanese artists to get their start in drawing pornography. Western artists will never have the luxury of having a portfolio full of porn they've made actually securing them jobs in the comics, cartoon, and vidya industry. Even as hard as they sperg, they'll never actually reach the ears of the guys making hiring decisions based on how well artists draw anime tiddy in projects that may require anime tiddy in copious amounts.

I'd say I'd be shocked they work in the industry but don't even know basic stuff like that, but they don't actually work in the industry, let alone work at all given their twitter activity.

Funny thing is, 20 years ago the backlash would have come from the parents/ratings people about those artists. In Current Year, it would come from the SJW types who find that kind of thing too "problematic" to allow the artist to be platformed.

Unless it's gay/troon/NB/whatever art, of course. That's the right kind of sexualization to get a pass from them for being a good ally.

For extra context, I would like to point out that this was also very true for a lot of early western VAs who voiced (hilariously badly) dubbed hentai. The most famous example is Dan Green. Lmao tons of them indeed do hentai. One of my favorite artist BOICHI do lots of hentai and even is mainstream stuff is borderline or straight up porn at times. Havent checked Dr.Stone yet but being on Jump its probably toned down though japanese dont rly give a shit about having sexy attractive characters even in shonen.

This also applied to other actors. Kazuma Kiryu's VA Takaya Kuroda also did gay hentai radio dramas (lovingly referenced in substories in Kiwami 2). Kamen Rider Blade's live actor Takayuki Tsubasa also starred in a porno, though because landed in a kid's TV series they like to forget that.
