Without power leveling too bad, I can tell you you are extremely accurate in your assessment of them. I was a bit close to these guys and the website as a whole many years ago. Nothing major, but enough to know if you were an intern you were a slave and had to kiss ass and worship the higher ups if you wanted any hope of being brought into their clique. Or fuck your way to the top like Hope did. That's how most new blood got promoted. All the new writers they hired like Micchy, Nick, Steve, and etc got hired because they were friends of Zac and the others on Twitter. They had open writing auditions and it just so happened all of them were a part of that clique prior to their applications. Same goes to the forum moderators who were also friends. They had their own little IRC chatroom back in the day to berate and make fun of people and shoot the shit. No idea if it's still around, I heard they had plans to make a discord awhile back.

It just seems like a copy+paste of things I see in pretty much every industry. Even when I worked in logistics, the fucking people who organized moving boxes of shit, there was a fucking pecking order, the division managers would speak to the supervisors right in front of you and then the supervisors would turn to you and tell you what you just heard. It was fucking absurd. We were moving boxes, fucking boxes.

It just makes me think that at the top of every industry theres nothing but degenerates whos only drive to get there was to gain enough power to torment people or sexually assault them.

I agree, a peck on the cheek would be fine, especially since she's carrying a sign saying "kisses for 25c", but I'd still be keeping an eye on any guys who took her up on that offer.

Yeah, a peck on the cheek and everyone has a good giggle shouldn't set the world on fire.

Sorry Dom. I've heard from a little birdy that Justin had tried to sexually come onto someone at a convention.

I'd also say something about sexual responsibility and this country, but that goes into some debate territory. TL;DR, most anime convention teens are also exploring their chemistry, but I'd be cautious too for creeps.

Oh, and I also have someone fun I want to introduce very soon.

Fun fact, his name starts with Sean. And he's our mystery guest I've talked about in my detailed history of Anime News Network. Stay tuned.

Yeah, it's not impossible, it's not like I know the guy personally or anything.

My point is not so much about the sign girl herself, maybe things were too out of control at cons in the 2000s, but now the pendulum has swung too far in the other direction and it's taking the fun out of conventions, we don't need "cosplay is not consent" signs posted on every wall in the men's room, which is what happened at a small convention I went to back in April, what kinda anti-male bullshit is that? (guarantee you that wasn't in the ladies room)

Another really bad thing is it seems like more and more cons are having stricter dress codes that don't allow revealing costumes for female cosplayers, which is like, half the damn point of cosplay.

I agree that people need to have sexual responsibility, you can't let people get away with just anything, but at the same time it's just part of human nature that you have to let people blow off some steam at least on occasion, which is why even Catholic countries have Mardi Gras and Carnival type celebrations.

American culture has a puritanical streak that goes way back and transcends the left/right dynamic, one of the reasons 1950s culture died and exploded into the 1960s is because 1950s culture was far too buttoned down, far too strict and people chaffed against it.

Now, 50 years later things have gone full circle and American culture is once again becoming too strict, just from a left wing perspective instead of right wing, either way it results in no one having any fun because prudish, crabby assholes hate the thought of not everyone being as miserable as they are.

But anyway, looking forward to finding who this "Sean" fellow is.

Because I feel like how Aerosmith did when they got inspired to write and sing Eat The Rich.

Who is Sean O'Mara?

Sean O'Mara I admit.... This would likely be a stretch, but the guy from deduced observation is like the Anti Chris Chan. And believe me, I have tagged this fucker since he decided to shit all over the internet.

The concept of Anti Chris Chan would have to be how one doesn't have autism, lacks the notoriety and infamy and attention, is legitimately skilled and a functioning human being, yet is still an exceptional individual who is a complete and utter fuckup, waste of talent that could have been realized, and oh, a giant loser who uses the internet to vent out the steam from their anus. Oh, and he doesn't have the money and positive attention that Chris Chan gets on the daily.

Sean O'Mara is someone of very peculiar and curious interest because the guy is not just an entitled megalomanical Southern California denizen with a trust fund and a diehard attention starved lonely antisocial faggot of an otaku weeaboo who is his own social repellent, but someone who is also hinted to have ties with the video game industry. Yeah, that does mean that he probably has a connection to Gamergate, and has long been off the radar.

Back to the point however, Sean O'Mara is best known for his only obscure and barely known shitheap and boil on Western world anime fandom: Colony Drop.

Colony Drop was started in 2008 as a so called anime blog where Sean and his friends had complete control to talk about anything they wanted about anime; namely a shared interest in 1980s anime, and anything anime related they felt was relevant to bring up. Of course, knowing Sean, the blog is mainly filled with the kind of faggot internet entitlement you'd see out of the 2000s in an anime web forum, you know, like Anime News Network! Oh and by the name itself, they are also huge Gundam weeaboos.

Colony Drop could have been a legitimately great anime blog, but the writing is filled with some of the most caustic, cynical, culturally myopic, and underhandedly nastiest geek fan entitlement you could ever lay your eyes on. Colony Drop's attention was mainly dead set on causing flame wars between them and other anime blogs at the time, and to give them reputation with being an edgy and insular, as well as aggressive and belligerent disposition, with a community that fit edgelord faggots as razor sharp like Sean himself. And of course, like every cause for attention like this, this got them the attention they deserved: Absolutely fucking nothing except for people like them.

Colony Drop's articles mainly centered on them whining about how Japan is not making their kind of anime to enjoy around the time of the Great Reccession, provided some laughably fatheaded advice on how they could save the anime industry like the dickless white trash peckerwoods they were, blamed moe anime and Haruhi Suzumiya for everything wrong with anime at the time and into the future, created a wannabe Kiwi Farms / Weeaboo Horror Stories tumblr documenting useless bullshit some anime fans said out on the internet just so they and their crowd could get some laughs, "picked apart" moe anime because they feared being looked at like pedophiles like the self aware hipster faggots they were, and apparently, when shit got real and someone called them out, pussytrolled out like the bunch of confrontation dodging losers they were bullshitting about how "we aren't trying to force the anime industry to do anything we say we swear." Says the dipshits who ran a smear pedophilia accusation piece on Danny Choo and called Akihabara a "manchild's wonderland" while you went off to to some crummy ass Gundam themed bar, right Sean? Nice to know anime fans like Sean are nothing but spoiled toddlers. Oh, and apparently they hate Hideaki Anno, Evangelion, and call him a liar and a thief. Now I can care a whole lot less about what anime you watch and what you like and don't like, but again, these faggots act like 13 year olds, and Sean still does, no matter how far he wants to ditch his shittossing and run to the hills. Also, have some more tin foil hat anime old fag weeaboo conspiracy fuckery about how Hideaki Anno is going to destroy anime or whataever.

The most amusing thing about Colony Drop was that there was much useless bullshitting about how "great the classics were", like every other anime blog that wasn't Colony Drop. Colony Drop was also in the process of making a paperback fan magazine dedicated to their self indulgent fan nostalgia shitwallowing, and efforts were made to advertise on Anime News Network and 4chan on /a/. All in all, they only made 3 volumes over the course of 2011 - 2018. Great fuckin' magazine, dipshits!

Over the years, Colony Drop slowed down in traffic, mainly because no one gave a shit about oldfag losers who act like edgelord 2000s game store loitering faggots. While it was active into 2018, the site mysteriously went offline when the Weeb Wars hit in 2019. What's that Sean? Do you have something to hide?

But if one thing sinks, Sean thinks it's a great idea to start back up again. Welcome to Zimmerit.moe (Archive), where any other lonely hipster faggot as bitter and obsessed as him can buy expensive anime toys and meander on and on about nostalgic bullshit, and where he can go back to his old ways of being a diehard weeaboo edgelord "with taste". If taste was licking through old trash with broken glass repeatedly. (Archive)

All in all, Sean is amusing because the guy is such an angry faggot hipster who can't get with the times, let alone get it up. Dude lives with his mom, and as evidenced with his internet escapades, is such a faggot basement dwelling anime weeaboo old faggot angry that Gundam 0079 and Patlabor couldn't get him laid that he'll whine and bitch a storm in the face of the inevitable change of trends and the times to get it all to command to him, and from another part of the world, nonetheless. Along with balding with age and looking (let alone acting) like forever alone supercuck Frank Grimes from the Simpsons, his only way of communicating with the world is by bullying and whining his way through life. Pray for the souls who had to fucking put up with this flakeass loser in real life, let alone the internet.

The man is also a rich trust fund piece of shit who blows all of his money on going back to Tokyo and fro and expensive anime toys with his parent's cash, and is such a useless writer with an attitude problem that he still lives with his parents. Also, as said before but not confirmed in full, the judge who issued him traffic school and got him off from fines is likely his dad. Watch out fellow Californian anime fans, if Sean knows who you are, he'll run you the fuck over. It's no wonder why he is such a fucking toddler manchild; he's such a spoiled piece of shit he'll whine about an entire industry just to try to get things his way, as if the Japanese nation is going to bend back over for some cucked angry entitled weeaboo otaku hipster faggot. Too bad travel isn't an enlightening experience for him either, as he's still an entitled fuckoff.

Oh, and it appears Sean is a photographer. When he's not out spoiling himself in Tokyo with the sights, he enjoys making fun of other gonky anime fans which make him look like he could snap like a twig by the wind alone, and violating local customs and cultural mores, like taking a photo of a Japanese man who obviously was never given his consent to his gaijin ass. But the best part about this is Anti Moe Crusader + Hipster SJW Faggot + Photographer = Probable real life pedophile. And as we've all seen on Kiwi Farms about Sarah Nyberg and Dan Olson, all signs point to yes.

"Fans of the series typically have an enormous amount of nostalgia and personal meaning wrapped up in their experience with it. Make it your own."

Man Sean, after the entitled cuck whiny bullshit you displayed for the last 11 years, I now think your end of anime fandom is pure faggotry and weeaboo white trash peckerwood noise. Fuck off.

I remember back in the day when I used to post more on /m/ they'd occasionally spam their blog there. They have decent taste IMO, but goddamn are they pretentious beyond belief. Why would anyone want to read that shit, let alone pay money to these people?
"Hey guys let's act like huge obnoxious dicks that overshadow the mere annoyance of anime convention faux pas and display ourselves as backass entitled cucks who hate Japan if they don't give us what we want! We'll sure be the best blog on the net!"

These sacks of fucking slag for brains probably wouldn't know social common sense even if it smashed their heads wide open like a fucking melon. I have a hunch that they thought it would be funny to act like Naruto tard spectrum fans but with the all of the shit that no one liked about the 1990s anime fandom and the elitists. It helps grow the sweet sweet fruit of tard cum kiwi though. Then again, Sean is a spoiled rotten rich asshole who thinks he can do anything he wants and can get away with it. Birds of a feather flock together, it seems.

I'll also detail that Sean also is a diehard advocate and possibly an inside man for various West Coast anime conventions, specifically Anime Los Angeles and Otakon Vegas. He's gone back recently as of 2017. Judging from his dumb hipster and problem glasses look, it honestly makes me think if SJW faggotry is hardlined in the staff at those places. I'm also sure he's got his hands in plenty of backpockets in the convention scene and anime news industry.

I remember all the controversy over "moe" anime in the late 2000s and it was stupid, since series like Haruhi and Lucky Star were coming out at the exact same time as Code fucking Geass and Gurren fucking Lagann, so it's not like they didn't have mecha action series to watch.

Comedy or "moe" anime were not hurting anything or taking anything away from anyone, especially now over a decade later when you have animes like the JoJo series it's especially dated and cringey to look back at that bitter "old man yells at cloud" attitude of that time, it's like a movie fan in the early 1980s complaining that Animal House and Porky's is somehow ruining Star Wars, anime has always offered a wide variety of genres for a wide variety of tastes.

There was a lot of bone deep cynicism about a lot of things back in the late 2000s, not an aspect of that time I look back on with much fondness.

These are the types of people in charge of most media that reports on particular fandom/genres though. They have some connections, they think they are hot shit. That's all you need. Like, pretty much literally, that's it. Because others, that are in charge of hiring and firing just go "well they seems to know what they're talking about".

It all just comes back to who you know.

Note of interest:

Sean got in trouble in 2011 for violating a california statue VC D5200(A) which led to a traffic misdemeanor (archive failed), case number YOSU-CRTR-2011-18756-1. It looks like he was ordered to attend traffic school. What's especially notable is that the judge who oversaw his court date was Superior Court of California, County of YOLO Commisioner J(ohn) Kent O'Mara. I thought this might be his dad, but I can't find any evidence of that. Judith A Reigel may have been married to a Stephen O'Mara at some point but I can't find any records actually detailing this.

Regarding Ass News Network, Sean is friends with none other than Zac Bertschy and Mike Toole, as well as Beth Elderkin. Though he doesn't write at Anime News Network, it should be noted he writes for Otaku USA, and is also known to have worked in the video game industry in the States.

Also, here's some more leads on his fellow retar- I mean dipshits in tow:

"Fans of the series typically have an enormous amount of nostalgia and personal meaning wrapped up in their experience with it. Make it your own."

Man Sean, after the entitled cuck whiny bullshit you displayed for the last 11 years, I now think your end of anime fandom is pure faggotry and weeaboo white trash peckerwood noise. Fuck off.

your write-up is great, thanks for dropping this :D

These are the types of people in charge of most media that reports on particular fandom/genres though. They have some connections, they think they are hot shit. That's all you need. Like, pretty much literally, that's it. Because others, that are in charge of hiring and firing just go "well they seems to know what they're talking about".

It all just comes back to who you know.
I like where you're leading this. When you compare to other bigger syndication and fields of entertainment, the difference is literally a molehill from a mountain. Music, movies, and television, specifically live action, is much greater in social cohesion than animation and video games. Essentially, there is more social movement, more hands on interaction, and more need to communicate when it comes to working with live in the flesh people. It's not like animation and video games don't have that, but the social cohesion goes along a lot slower as well as a greater emphasis on the work and series at hand. With movies and and music, social interaction and harmony is just as important as the artists and set directors, the sound operators and recording booth heads, as that helps get the creative energy moving, for better and worse, with its pluses as well as negatives. Social pacing with a certain industry is an extremely crucial part of news and spreading information, as well as reporting on entertainment.

However, this is anime we are talking about, something still niche and fringe despite its popularity. I'm going to admit that while there is much that goes on socially and productively, the topic at hand is on Anime News Network and entertainment news focused on anime in general.

Western based anime news is something of a fringe within a fringe. A need within an already cult form of entertainment. People from the west reporting on anime news, something that tends to happen mainly in Japan regarding production and direct creation of series, and with stories here and there on localizers and publishers. There is something of a conundrum though when it comes to anime news and its own social cohesion: there are no anime creators in the States.

Think about it. Even though US animation and the industry is already sequestered as it is, there are creators and there is a community of both fans and artists, storyboard writers, workers, creators specifically, that help spur the need to report and give information. There is something that is being done to help give the news, and that is progress and development.

And when that need is met, refinement and a need for betterment comes into play to help regulate and monitor that information. Those who cannot match the required skills to report back or are unethical are weeded out. Even to tabloids, they have to regulate what they are going to put out and they have to give the truth whether they like it or not. Sure backdoors and who you know will always come into play, but there will eventually be standards to where that backdoor will remain sealed shut and heavily guarded but reserved for only the best of the best.

Where I am getting at this is that anime news is an already fringe niche of reporting that is both a barren desert island but on a fault line that grows that island, and goes into a more wild west territory because of what's still uncharted, and even the known areas are not mapped out in full or some parts just fall back into the sea. Because anime is produced in Japan, but not out West or anywhere else in the world, those who wish to report on the news in the anime industry are regulated to the die hard fanatics and enthusiasts, the hardcore fans and viewers. But as a form of entertainment from another nation, it's sure not made for them solely, and what they like is what will be the stuff of the past, and like all interests, they eventually turn to something else too. That's why we have people like Zac, Hope, and Sean at the heads of anime news on their barren wastes they claim as the best place in the world, but is still but infertile and hostile.

That's another thing about anime reporting too. Going back to that whole shifting sand land desert island bit, it's like there are endless shifts and earthquakes always happening. The topography is different than the day before. Where you once could go, you likely can't into the future. And you still can't grow and raise shit there unless you like fishing and eating seaweed forever.

And so I ask, where's the progress? Where's people actually making their own grassroots shit, and defining their likes and preferences in their society and culture? The answer is no one is doing that, for the most oddest of reasons that is still a puzzle to human psychology. Art is not a merely solitary thing. Art changes, it travels, it expands, it grows. And yet to anime, that style of art just isn't doing that at all. 30 years and still only a very few, somewhat notable, but not groundbreaking or moving attempts. There's a ton of inspiration and imagination to be had, yet little is utilized. A weird dearth to something introduced to a nation of the free and the brave. Going back to such things like music, jazz was taken to France and came back to the States in the 1930s. Punk rock came to the US from the UK in the late 1960s and blew up from New York City. Rap started out in the Bronx in the 1970s but went out to Los Angeles and even abroad to places like Germany. Animation itself started in France and went all around the world in the early 20th Century. Regardless of this mystery, without development and progress, there's already a shaky foundation to all of this.

It's not like Sean or Zac can talk to major directors and creators in Japan. Sure they'll give interviews but it's strictly professional and with a time limit due to schedules. They can't sit with them at a bar and espouse all their ideas and beliefs on what anime should be and how it should be done when their work is done. They can't just go out to Japan and ring out their editors and agents for private meetings. They can't even go out there and perform papparazzi shit. Even ANN is literally flyshit compared to Entertainment Weekly, The Rolling Stone, and even TMZ. Because of their uniquely insular and fringe cult interest world, the only way they can gain attention is through other likeminded individuals at liscensors and localiziers, ADV studios, and better yet, the fandom. Because the fandom's only link is through their consumption, and because they are no better, without talent, a legitimate form of self awareness between them and the world around them(not egotistical arrogance) or influence, they're back to their high school grade clique box.

Maybe I've already answered my own questions, but simply put, you're right in that they are the heads of the industries and scenes they will report on, and they will follow their agendas, not anything for the benefit of the public. I don't think now however that they are atop Mount Everest, and even if it's on the tallest peak of the anime fandom, for whatever it's worth, they're still flyshit.

But I think we can agree that they are all dicksucking nepotists with shitty teenager grade professional conduct trying to get fame with slander and cooking up stories. It's true that in publications, there are writers and reporters who do want to report on lesser known artists, directors, bands, musicians, what not, just so they can let the world know about them out of a bit of fandom vanity, or in news sources, await a big scoop catching legitimate corrpution and scandals that affect society and the people, but I can give them credit as they climbed a lot of ladders and took a lot of shit getting to where they stand. This time we're dealing with unethically moronic media fanatics who follow a largely traceable form of bias from a questionable social movement, have large and expansive connections to pull strings as they feel, and are fucking with a fan community that's still growing socially, as well as are literally playing the curly mustached villain placing their victim on the train tracks for their own gain, and that being Vic Mignogna, all while trying to gain social prestige and money from it through bending the news to their bent. And for that I say, I'm in this battle to the bitter end.

Most anime fans are content with word of mouth among fellows fans and a willingness to simply seek out and try stuff, rather than being told by media outlets what's good.

For the truly hardcore fans anime has a "pizza" like quality where even when it's bad, it's still kinda good, you still get a certain sense of satisfaction from it, it's still fun, if sometimes only to laugh at (MD Geist is a good example of that), it's rare that I've seen an anime that I would consider totally unwatchable.

Yes, it would be nice to have a quality English news source, like what ANN used to be somewhat, but those days are over and my point is I think the fandom will be just fine without it.

Sean Michael O'Mara is just another trust fund baby who can't prove that they have any worthwhile skills and uses money and dick sucking nepotism to get anywhere. Just the type I like to see shredded into pieces.

ANN and their ilk have never been of any use to me, as I wander the Internet finding anime that interests me, along with word of mouth. Nothing would change for me if ANN got buried under a pile of debt as they are below InfoWars tier (I can't believe a crackpot conspiracy theorist holds more value.).

archive that shit or something, I'm not giving them the clicks
Whoops, sorry friend. Thank @REGENDarySumanai for that. Totally forgot about that.

So I find it funny that they say that it's the "main company" that "enforces the dubbings".... Granted it's not the 1990s again but I find it extremely hard to believe, especially when we know that Funimation deliberately put in references to Gamergate in their dubs, anime in animation form or not.

"I DUNNO, SEEMS LIKE A WHOLE CROCK A SHIT"

So I find it funny that they say that it's the "main company" that "enforces the dubbings"
To be fair, he says that the main company CAN do anything from nothing to "micro-manager from hell". I honestly believe for 90% of titles the answer is VERY close to "no involvement" rather than "magnifying glass on each item". That said, I could totally believe that the recent Sailor Moon and/or DBZ could be in the very narrow band of heavy involvement (if only due to how much money they pull), but just saying I'd expect MOST shows the Japanese side doesn't really care. Also, not sure what his opinion is today,. but I recall that Miyazaki got real anal and precise about his stuff after he (and fans) hated the original US release of Naussicca.

Ah, yes, that time when Miramax fucked up so bad, they literally got Miyazaki himself to travel to the States when they had the idea to "make this shit watchable" and for Miyazaki-dono himself to slap the fucking shit out of them in person. Good times.

A while ago, I went through Yu Yu Hakusho two times; once with the dub, and another with the sub. While I like the YYH dub, there were more liberties to them to "help get western audiences interested", while the Japanese dub was translated word for word and in proper english. While I do like the idea of alternate interpretations, as mankind always has different perspectives of things, I wondered if they would do something like this in the future. With Crayon Shin Chan, I'm not wrong.

The point I'm getting with this is how this is Funimation we're talking about, and at some point they were bound to hire in politically charged jackasses into their high school social level workplace. It's obvious that Answerman is a yes man mouthpiece designed to deter naysayers, but he's not giving all the truth, as we can see.

What's this?

I'm going to take this as an experiment to see how well ANN reports on this and finds legitimate evidence of Mr. Kopf's misconduct and sexual violations.

Kopf was previously named in a police report alleging he committed forcible rape at the Clarion Hotel in Davenport, Iowa on May 3, 2013. The police report states the incident occurred during an anime convention run by Kopf and the victim was a member of the convention's volunteer staff. AnimeCon.org's Anime-zing! convention was taking place at the Clarion Hotel in 2013.

According to the report, the alleged victim stated Kopf asked her to drink with him which she agreed to, presuming they would be drinking in a public area. The report goes on to say that Kopf grabbed her and pulled her into his hotel room where he allegedly bit her repeatedly and groped her despite her protests before pushing her on to the hotel room bed and penetrating her repeatedly. Police classified the alleged assault as "Sexual Abuse in the 3rd Degree - Forcible Rape".

Sexual abuse in the 3rd degree is a Class C felony in the state of Iowa punishable by a prison term of up to 10 years, and a minimum fine of US$1,000 and a maximum fine of US$10,000.

Police took the alleged victim to a hospital to process a rape kit, but she declined. The injuries to her neck were photographed by police but she declined to press charges.

Kopf was not arrested and no charges were filed for the Davenport incident. There is no arrest record or charges listed for the alleged sexual assault in Milwaukee.

Since Anime Milwaukee 2018, further allegations of sexual misconduct by alleged victims were posted on social media. Kopf issued a public statement on social media on Monday in response to one specific allegation of rape that was said to have taken place while on a company trip to Japan in 2016. In his response, Kopf stated that the event was consensual and suggested the allegation was the result of a disagreement between himself and the woman regarding a third party that took place during the trip.

And for who wish to explore the forums.

You're thinking too recent and ignoring WHY he got on Miramax. Full disclosure, I think most of Miyazaki's movies (especially the "critically acclaimed" Princess Mononoke) are preachy, semi-pretentious snoozefests. That said, Nausicaa is nearly a 2 hr film and the FIRST American release of it was a 95 minute cut titled "Warriors of the Wind" (so almost a half hour taken out) rewritten to make it more of an action film including a VHS box that features characters not even IN the movie. That's why Disney got the rights later and WHY Miyazaki got really strict about his films.

But again, that IS an aberration from the norm. There are definitely a bunch of anime where the US companies took many liberties and the Japanese side doesn't really care.
