I think maybe he was never truly a pedo at all, it could have been out of opportunity, that he had no one else so he just resorted to children since they are an easy target or he was drawn into the anime fantasy. In fact, I think most people who commt child sex crimes do it out of opportunism/to spite the childs parents as opposed to being attracted to children.
