'Empire' star Jussie Smollett attacked in possible hate crime

“Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked in the early morning hours on Tuesday in what Chicago police are calling a possible hate crime.

Smollett was attacked by two people "yelling out racial and homophobic slurs" and "poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim," police said.

According to police, one of Smollett's alleged attackers also put a rope around his neck. Both fled the scene.

Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and "is in good condition," police told CNN.

Later Tuesday, CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Smollett and a mutual friend who was at the hospital with the actor. Smollett confirmed the incident took place.

He was shaken and angry that an attack like this could happen. Smollett told CNN he fought back at the attackers.

"Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime," the police statement said.

Smollett has starred on Fox's "Empire" since 2015. He plays Jamal, a successful singer in the musical Lyon family. Like his character, Smollett identifies as gay.

"We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our 'Empire' family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night," a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN. "We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate -- and especially against one of our own."

A representative for GLAAD told CNN the organization has reached out Smollett to offer assistance and support.

"Jussie is a true champion for LGBTQ people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world," a GLAAD spokesperson said in a statement.

lol, the twists and turns continue. The evidence against him is so solid I have to imagine the police fucked up the ability to prosecute this somehow, probably regarding the leaks.

So what happens now? Police have to go back to searching for the real attackers? rofl.

A source close to Jussie says the prosecution's case "disintegrated." As we reported, there were issues with the $3,500 check the 2 brothers received from Jussie. The Police Superintendent had said the money was payment for the fake attack, but it appears it was actually for physical training.

The Police Superintendent also said during a news conference that Jussie wrote that threatening letter 6 days before the attack when in actuality the FBI had not concluded who wrote the letter.

Let this be a lesson for everyone who fakes a hate crime.

Please fake more of them, especially if you plan on demonizing a specific person or group. The most you'll get out of it is a little community service.

Edit: Oh and apparently, those evil conservatives are crying about it being a conspiracy. Just take Krassenstein's word for it.

Doubt it, now it becomes a "black man was silenced by the system", or an "I told you alt righters so".
So exactly wtf happened with this case? He already did community service, so it would be unjust to prosecute him? That is the biggest pile of shit I have heard for excusing someone?.
 
Prosecutors have absolute discretion in what cases they take to court. Its obvious people got paid and favors were passed around so this didn't go to trial. Chicago is corrupt as fuck. He got indicted on 16 fucking counts and they're mysteriously dropped? Yeah, my ass.

The case was pretty fucking cut and dry and all of sudden, "UHH DROPPED AND SEALED". They sealed that shit because it was so fucking obvious he was guilty. People got paid. Favors got tossed around.
 
I shouldn't even be surprised. The last few years have just been a slow-motion car crash into the side of a brick wall in terms of how society gradually collapses into the ocean. If you're somehow privileged it doesn't even matter how you act anymore. There's no need to hide it. Do whatever you want and Mommy and Daddy, whether actual or metaphorical, will make all the bad consequences go away.

Shes a restorative justice nutbag who has been hesitant to go after minority offenders. She has changed the office so unless it’s murder (usually), it’s very unlikely you will be prosecuted.
