Phil will NEVER GO BACK to the Connecticut condo. He CAN'T stream from there stop being fucking stupid. Intelligent people will just continue to pay for two different places no matter what happens

I don't even understand his point.

He DID stream there. For years. Did the internet get worse?

Phil thinks that his "office" is some top-tier setup that could never be replicated in his CT condo. The actual truth is that he just doesn't want to move back and admit that he has spent years trying to sustain a lifestyle that he can't afford.

I think the unrelated lore about Phil family and other things unrelated to Phil's actual day to day streaming is important. It helps people to make connections that draw a bigger picture.

For example, if we can make connections with Phil's aunt and cousin having a rough go at life and Phil's parents helping them first by "adopting" the cousin and later letting the aunt live cheaply in the Connecticut condo we can make conclusions on what sort of people they are. If they are willing to make sacrifices for their family, it makes it more likely that they would indeed give Phil financial help. It might seem odd that Phil's elderly parents would give their 37 year old son thousands of dollars but they also gave their addict sister and her kid places to live. This generosity is drasticly different than the picture Phil paints of idiot parents who neglected to buy him the wolverine doll, a mother who didn't care about her son's wellbeing after a near fatal car crash, or the selfish couple who didn't consider Phil's s work schedule regarding ceiling fan installation.

It's more of an anthropological study than anything malicious.

Hm heres some things we've heard from DSP
  1. The internet is bad in CT. People can only stream on Washington business class internet.
  2. The neighborhood is bad.
  3. The condo is too small
  4. Washington air magically heals his back/CT air is dirty. Hotel air is better than the condo's.
  5. The condo board ruined his life and the unboxing video of Lightning Returns.
  6. He hated his neighbors.
  7. It's not a gated community.
  8. The ghost of his gout-ridden aunt haunts the apartment, she cursed him with gout and it will get worse if he stays there.
  9. His parents don't want him to stay there.
  10. People know the address and will harass him.
  11. Kat won't stay there
  12. Pandalee is living there secretly.
  13. It will trigger his depression.
  14. He will have to clean.

Why in the fuck did Phil move across the country before he could do anything about the the condo. It was a 30 year old's conscious plan to just pay for two properties as a streamer?

The stupidest thing is that Phil has admitted in the past that his income was starting to dwindle before he even moved, so in a pure panic he rushed to WA before his income lowered to the point that he could no longer afford it (and also probably before anyone had a chance to convince Leanna she was making a huge mistake). This move also resulted in him needing to lease out his BMW for another three years, when he could have waited a few months and been clear of it altogether.

Got a timestamp or link or something for this one? This seems like it'd warrant more discussion or theories.

Phil is bad at managing money or making contingency plans; and I quote, "There was no Plan B." He's stated before he thought he would get ahead with money to where he'd be able to branch out to other things and then make Youtube something he does on the side. I believe the example he gave for this was something about a restaurant; which I doubt he has the chops for. At best he could invest in someone's ideas, then get a dividend off how well the restaurant does; because his inability to handle youtube/twitch is impossible to disprove. Him trying to manage anything in real life, with real people, would be an even bigger fuck up.

Personally, I have two theories on this. My first theory is that he blew all his money (on useless junk like the statues), and moved out of panic in some attempt to finesse the system, likely with the thought that he wouldn't have to pay for the condo if he just moved. I seem to remember him saying something about "shaking" the condo, whatever that meant. Back in the day, he was making a LOT of money from YT, so it seems weird that he couldn't just pay off the condo.

My second theory is that he had some sort of beef with someone/some people in Connecticut that made him move out so suddenly, or perhaps he was paranoid that he was getting too popular for an area that he considered to be "high crime". After all, he has a history of saying that anyone who's against him essentially wants him dead, and there WERE incidents of people personally confronting him at tournaments, plus the multiple videos online of him raging at tournaments, etc. etc.

It just feels off to move out of a place because of "taxes too high, income too low" when A): You don't rely on the traditional job market anyway, and B): You're going to blow a crapton of $$$ moving cross-country, which is counteractive to your original motive. Then again, DSP has never been good with money-managing, so I'm probably overthinking all of this in general.

Short answer, greed. He bought the place thinking it would be an investment and he would make money. Instead his gamble lost.

I'm sure I could find the video if I looked. I know Tevin did a back in time stream featuring it. Phil acted like he had every intention of getting rid of the condo.

As he was doing one of his final Connecticut vlogs he said that it would be impossible to keep paying for the condo. He would sell it or rent it out. He absolutely would have to get rid of it. He could not afford paying two mortgages and he would be stupid to pay for an empty unit.

Now I believe Phil said he paid at least $120k for the condo. That seems pretty high for what it was, but Phil bought it. That's another long story. The price went down significantly by the time he went to sell it. Phil obviously didn't want to take the loss so he didn't put it on the market.

He gambled on the value going back up and it hasn't. He has been paying for this place for around 10 years give or take.

All a result of his mouth writing checks his ass can't cash.
“Cashing” with crotch chips to the crowd isn’t enough for you?!?! Pffffttttg

I believe the lore as of one of the recent retrospectives was he bought it from the boyfriend of some chick he worked with (and presumably was trying to weasel his way into her pants with a monumental chad gesture) directly from them without a real estate agent and probably zero negotiation ($130k-ish if my autistic memory serves me) because he’s truly exceptional. So he probably paid at least $10-15k more than he should have from the word go. He could have it rented if he wasn’t so exceptional and would actually call a real estate management agency instead of expecting them to strictly communicate in emails.

Not to mention the cost of living are MUCH lower, you never leave the house house dark and you’re not going to make up that cost of living differential having to use the AC more. Oh but he wanted to be close to the tourney/con scene, oh wait that didn’t exactly work out did it...

DSP thought that WA didn't have state taxes, which is true, unless you own a business / are self employed.

The reasoning is astonishing, I know, but he is better off up there, you would hear nothing but bitching about how hot it is in FL or TX (other notable states that truly have no state income tax).

Going around Real Estate agents is a legitimate tactic, you save about 7% of the selling price on average (3.5% for both the buying and selling agent). Dave bought that condo at literally the worst time since the 80's, as 2009 saw The Great Recession, where overvalued homes tanked, and ARM's saw tens of thousands of foreclosures.

You can't take a loss on something you don't own, DSP has a mortgage, and the bank apparently refuses to short sell it (why would they when DSP pays them every month).

The only astonishing thing is how blindly he makes decisions. Most people aren't self-employed; so when it comes to things like relocating, they don't have to concern themselves with tax criteria as business owners do. Phil took the word of... someone... I guess, and made his decision based on that. Instead of maybe talking to another big youtuber who may live in WA state and ask what the tax situation is like; or maybe go one even better, and find a reputable tax firm and for a small fee, pick their brain about what's what. He likes to put it off on his CT tax guy; but he isn't asking a reliable source, and he should know this. Most people wouldn't ask a CT lawyer about WA law, just like they wouldn't ask a CPA in CT about tax stuff in WA; but Phil... he's really fucking exceptional.

Just a pleb point, CPA's are trained the same in every state, that is the whole point, CPA designation is only required when auditing financial statements of companies that are publicly traded (NYSE, NASDAQ, etc). Lawyers are granted their license by the State BAR, much like MD's are granted their license by the State Board, there are agencies within each state that will grant CPA designations in accordance with the AICPA / NASBA, but you can practice in mostly every state / territory, it will even transfer to Canada https://www.aicpa.org/advocacy/state/mobility.html.

God, I just realized how boring I am.

What he could have done was 2 minutes of Google-ing WA taxes, and read what the laws are... but it's only his means of making a living, so what does it matter.

sigh... And once again, when I am thinking there cannot be much info left about Dave that would be able to kick his broken moral compass even deeper into the abyss, some old info surfaces I managed to miss completely. Human garbage can, thy name be Phil Burnell.
