Its gonna be a shitshow. A fun psychoanalytic shitshow, but nonetheless a shitshow. Both sides will claim their dude wonned, we all know, but damn, just hearing those two in the same room is gonna make my brain initially confused, then explode.

But of course Peterson goes off on tangents about feminists and trans people as the problem destroying both Canadian and U.S society - seems like a weird diversion technique to me to keep people ignorant about incoming economic collapse.

My reading of Peterson is that he is basically a milquetoast conservative cum neoliberal acolyte. He preaches a kind of naive individualism which is superficially empowering, but one which in the end only serves to encourage passivity, and thus perpetuate most of the problems his followers turn to him to address.

His answers concerning climate change are a perfect illustration of this: he basically says that it is better not to worry about it and focus on your own life than it is to upset the status quo, no matter how urgently the status quo may need upsetting.

It makes one wonder, however, what sort of status quo Peterson is trying to get people to accept. The status quo of today is different from the one of fifty years ago - and why? Because people didn't decide to just accept it, but went out and did something about it.

All in all, you are right that what he's advocating doesn't solve anything.

I get the impression that Peterson values order more than anything else, and obviously anyone who is brazen about wanting to subvert the existing order of things poses a threat to that value. You can see this in the way that he positions himself against groups like progressives, the alt-right, and outspoken atheists. He never seems to go after people who extol the virtues of the status quo, only ever those who seek to disrupt it in some way.

He's a bit like a mealy-mouthed Buckleyesque conservative in this regard. He's one of those who will pretend that there is some profound wisdom in opposing any radical change, but then once the change has happened, will act like it was their idea all along.

Good point on Peterson's "non-solution" and I guess this is major problem with conservatives in general.

I remember watching some time ago a video by some conservative about why left always wins and there were some usual arguments about evil, degeneracy and all that and well I don't think that it matters at all. Problem in my opinion is that most conservatives don't have any "ideas", they think that yesterday was perfect and we should try to keep it that way. You can see with their slow shift from "gays are evil" to "gays must be protected from bigoted Muslims" and many other things that initially were pushed by the left. Once something gets established they start thinking that it must be preserved.

So you know, you can't win when you are essentially not playing by not putting forth any new ideas.

That's why I think this whole celebrity has gone to his head. He's a clinical psych, he had some good points about responsibility, since in this day in age everyone seems to want to pass on responsibility, nothings their fault, it's racism, or the patriarchy, or victim blaming. Then for some reason he's being asked about climate change and economics and politics. And now he can't help himself but sperg his poorly informed canadian opinions. Like just shut up, you're just giving ammo to people who didn't like you the moment they saw you.
 
Oh Jordan...For a jungian psychologist he seems pretty unaware of his own shadow. He started off fine, but overtime I feel he became more and more influenced by the people around him, especially his audience (And tbh I think the leftists he interacted with were partially responsible.) I think he has grown accustomed to their attention and that now he has it he is reluctant to go against the grain of the audience that upholds and supports him. For all his talk of the strength and virtue of the individual now he's become a banner for THEIR ideas more so than a free thinking advocate for anything, just another talking head on the screen.

yes & its funny since this is also what happened to the feminists he criticizes. when things actually got 'better' for women, they couldn't admit it or their jobs/status as radicals was at stake.

so they kept on & on, 'microaggressions' & #metoo & now its all victimology since no other place for it to go.

but like with most things, they started with good points & valid criticisms that needed addressing at the time. now they say goofy shit like " hijabs are feminist" that's how totally fucked up it all is.... & if peterson doesn't get a grip, he's gonna start sounding just exactly that back-asswards. (as we say in the south)

I think it's a little late for that to be honest. If he had played more patiently earlier on and had been more careful who he associated himself with when cultivating his initial following then maybe things would've hashed out differently.
