'Empire' star Jussie Smollett attacked in possible hate crime

“Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked in the early morning hours on Tuesday in what Chicago police are calling a possible hate crime.

Smollett was attacked by two people "yelling out racial and homophobic slurs" and "poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim," police said.

According to police, one of Smollett's alleged attackers also put a rope around his neck. Both fled the scene.

Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and "is in good condition," police told CNN.

Later Tuesday, CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Smollett and a mutual friend who was at the hospital with the actor. Smollett confirmed the incident took place.

He was shaken and angry that an attack like this could happen. Smollett told CNN he fought back at the attackers.

"Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime," the police statement said.

Smollett has starred on Fox's "Empire" since 2015. He plays Jamal, a successful singer in the musical Lyon family. Like his character, Smollett identifies as gay.

"We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our 'Empire' family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night," a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN. "We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate -- and especially against one of our own."

A representative for GLAAD told CNN the organization has reached out Smollett to offer assistance and support.

"Jussie is a true champion for LGBTQ people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world," a GLAAD spokesperson said in a statement.

No reason to start the clock yet. Once they arrest and charge a crime the DA has a tight timetable. No reason to charge them yet when they aren’t the main investigation target.

It will be impressive when this finally all collapses. It’s one thing if he just phoned in a hoax. But that fake threat letter to his employer raises it from something the cops and judge will give him a stern talking to, to a possible Federal Crime. Dude! What the fuck were you thinking?

Who am I kidding there is no thought process going on in this clowns head besides “orange man bad” and “ can I stick my dick in it?”

Well the issue is they probably have the means to split to Nigeria any time they feel like it, passports or not. So either they don't think they're going to do that or they don't need them anyway (or they don't need them because they were the only innocent Nigerians on the planet and Smollett just used them).

I’m thinking any and all loyalty they had evaporated when he went on GMA and said “them! They’rethe MAGA thugs that did it!” And the police knocked on their door with a sledgehammer.

Watch, he's gonna skate and then talking heads assuming they don't just sweep it under the rug are gonna say "Well, it's good because it started a dialogue." That's how they always spin it when people get caught up in shit like this. The lefties rarely get disgraced in cases like this because it "started a dialogue".

The third option is that the authorities are aware of that and hope they'll split.

Realistically though, I'll bet they rolled on Smollett. The remarks by their lawyer at their release seem to suggest that. Now whether or not they gave a full and truthful account of everything to police is another matter of course.

If true they're probably furious about it, consider Jussie (wtf kind of name is Jussie anyway) a faggot, don't consider themselves such, and are going to get revenge for being outed for their buttsex activities.

Definitely. When I saw photos of the dudes hanging out in the gym in Jussie’s high rise I thought it was obvious he’s got something going on with the body building Nigerians.

These dudes would be very angry at being outed in the media as gay, they obviously are invested in being hyper-masculine tough guys. They’ve been desperate for fame and attention, but not as butt buddies helping gay Tupac.

I wondered if Jussie got them the roles as extras on his show or if he just met them that way. I could totally see Jussie getting sexual favors in return for “helping” their careers.

We are talking about two poor ass Nigerians who desperately want to be rich and famous. If they aren’t DL gay themselves, I can totally see them being gay for pay. A body builder TV show extra has to pay the bills somehow.

I bet the fake crime was a more attractive pay day than having to fuck Jussie up the butt again.

That's why charging them and prosecuting them fully (:optimistic:) is the only acceptable outcome, they won't learn anything, having no scruples or morals, but at least a high-profile prosecution may at least deter a few folks from thinking that there's no real repercussion or harm in making false, self-serving police reports since narrative and right side of history rules all.....

But, this "I hired a couple extras from my show to do my dirty work" is such an Act III-from- Law and Order wrap-up to the whole thing, I wonder what reality I'm living in if it's indeed true.

It looks like Jussie has lawyered up big time. I also love how they keep describing the two Nigerians as “LGBTQ supporting” Yeah that’s gonna raise their street cred.
 
I agree with Timmy, sounds like they def dropped the dime.... course I would too if the Cops said "He's talking his way into some pretty big charges right now, so, tell us, were you part of this BEFORE he made the report and have since come to your senses that what you did, while not illegal, was foolish and you want to make amends and cooperate with us? Or are you STILL going to try and help him sell his BS story and thus assist in him perpetuating an illegal false police report?"

A hoax like this would go a lot better if you don't have police involved. Just say, "Fuck the police they're racsit I'm not going to them." But then if you start out with an anthrax hoax mailed to your place of work there is no chance of that. Like seriously, if Smollet organized this he is in insanely deep shit. A hoax terrorist attack sent through the mail is a bigger deal than faking a beatdown.
