I wouldn’t get so high, admittedly british shows about the massively obese are a maudlin display of “oh how does it even happen, how could this be, sad tinkly background music,” even as they encourage viewers to have a good gawp.https://youtube.com/watch?v=TeoSd28L2ycView attachment 661766
Why are Muricans so goddamn exceptional?
Every country has fatties, but you're the only ones who somehow love to defend them.
I think some of the things he is pointing out on Trisha Paytas is just bad plastic surgery, like the lips.
Seems like the opposite to me.I wouldn’t get so high, admittedly british shows about the massively obese are a maudlin display of “oh how does it even happen, how could this be, sad tinkly background music,” even as they encourage viewers to have a good gawp.
At least American equivalent shows are more practical about it.
You may be right...I always just felt that the intent of both kinds of shows was to have a gawk at the big people, but brit shows tend to wrap it in a fake veneer of “caring” to make it more palatable, and that always bothered me about it because it’s the same damned sideshow.Seems like the opposite to me.
Something like Secret Eaters would never fly in the US because it directly acknowledges that fat people count their calories wrong and lie about what they've eaten rather than having unstoppable fat-genes.
They make every single person on that show admit after seeing the secret footage that "I am a secret eater". The exact opposite of "how did this even happen?"
There's also Supersize vs Superskinny, which breaks down a fat & skinny person's entire food intake for the week, and I also doubt that would be so well-received in America.
American obesity shows either focus on deflecting blame from consumers to companies (What's Eating Us type programming) or they're more of a freakshow about the most extreme end of the spectrum, not a source for helpful nutritional advice. M6PL never really goes into what's on the diet plan, just that they should be eating less. Because in my view the intent of US fat shows is to gawk.
Someone like Amberlynn can watch American fat shows without absorbing anything in regards to how to change her habits.
Whereas British fat shows typically give good diet advice, they seems geared towards mini-planets that aren't quite so far gone, and the intent imo seems like it's to actually get Brits to change.

Sure, the gawking aspect is still there, but it's not accompanied by the bewilderment about how obesity could even happen is more what I'm trying to get at.They're more detailed, sure, but in the ones I've seen, they still gawk. The intent is not to help, even if they wrap it up that way. Maybe in those shows with heavier kids, teaching them how to eat better, sure, but most are still morality porn/sideshows for the general populace. They just wrap it up nicer so it's palatable to people who think they're too kind to gawk at fat people.
In many ways it's more idiotic, I think. Nobody watches shows about the super obese for diet advice or to feel bad for their fellow man (sometimes you end up feeling that way, when you come across someone genuinely suffering from a tragic eating disorder) but you START watching to gawk.

The "how did this happen?" denial aspect isn't as present because I think denial about obesity being a choice is more of a recent, HAES thing, and HAES is mostly in North America.
It's also a bit funny to see you both condemning a good freakshow... on a niche internet subforum dedicated to hate-watching an obese youtuber.
Fair enough, if you can find a way to include live Kiwi comments on a ticker tape under every sideshow reality offering, I’ll be first in line for it every timeSure, the gawking aspect is still there, but it's not accompanied by the bewilderment about how obesity could even happen is more what I'm trying to get at.

Well America runs on fee-fees and the non-treading upon of suchI watched a supersize vs super skinny episode on YouTube, someone had commented why don’t they make one of these in America, because it’s so informative. The general consensus was it wouldn’t fly with us because it rejects our ideology, Americans are much too sensitive, which is why the HAES is so popular here in America. I just came to accept there isn’t much hope in changing how America’s views a healthy lifestyle, and just let them self destruct.
American Television example
There was a show on TLC I enjoyed watching called Fat Chance where the average overweight person lost weight and built up enough confidence to ask their crush out. It only lasted for one season because it was so poorly reviewed by viewers saying they shouldn’t have to lose weight, but the point of the show was the confidence these people built up through hard work and had changing the average American diet into a healthy lifestyle. The asking your crush part was just a bonus because at the end they still looked amazing and confident to pursue others.

Yeah American television is mostly left leaning in politics, we Like to be diverse, ethical, to include and make everyone’s opinion valid. It’s definitely a possibility for HAES to expand outside the USA because of the growing rate of obesity, it’s easier to just be content with oneself than to make an effort to change.Well America runs on fee-fees and the non-treading upon of such
I wonder if HAES will become a major american export. Americans already have a reputation for being overweight and coddled but how long til everyone else picks it up? What is the annual rate of growth per the HAES movement, globally speaking?
Good god, you mean America isn’t currently drafting laws to make it illegal to turn someone down for a date if you don’t like their looks? But tumblr PROMISED that was going to happen any day now!HAES has no chance of spreading outside of the fucking internet, forget about geography. You see more of it in American media because you see more of EVERYTHING in American media.

“The Mukbang Horror Show”
This is a video by a guy called Toad McKinley. A 30 minute video about the horror that is the mukbang genre. Our gorl appears around 9 minutes in but the whole video is pretty good. Worth a watch at least. Pink Fairy and Nickacado Avocado are also profiled in this video. The dude who made the video seems like he probably browses the Farms. Or perhaps a Metokur wannabe? You decide.
(Trisha Paytas has many of the markers of fetal alcohol syndrome. I wonder if that’s the case with her. He made an interesting point. Also I don’t remember this being posted here before but it’s from August so I may have missed it. Please forgive me if it’s a repost.)
And the same general idea that only the haes/incel follower in question should be allowed to have a choice in who they date. “No one can turn me down for any reason or they’re prejudiced! But I shouldn’t have to settle for someone I don’t find attractive because I DESERVE a hot date!”HAES has a lot of the same ideas about being owed dates that Incels have, despite the two generally disliking each other.
