Most of them seem to have very limited knowledge of music in general. Many people agree that Gangsta Rap died in the late 90's, and the "bling, bitchs'n'swag" type of rap has been in decline since 2010. Underground rap is never mentioned.

Similarly, the 90's to them are only about Grunge and Nirvana. Never a mention of the awful late 90's boybands, bubblegum pop and alt rock. In fact, everything non-rock between the early seventies and the late 2000's might as well not exist to them. I've never seen a defener talking about funk, or disco, or house, not even Nu-\M/ETAL which was pretty big as recent as ten years ago. Probably figures since most of them are tweens.
Yeah, oftentimes, nostalgia filters out the "bad" parts of the past, which leads one to think that everything was all fine and dandy. I wonder why they don't complain about boy bands of the past as well.

I've been browsing the subreddit for months now, it's pretty hilarious. Does anyone know whether defeners existed in previous decades?
The reason the "Dark ages" got it's name was because some Italians were butthurt because they were not living in classical Rome.

one thing I enjoy about Le90's kids is that they claim that music back then wasn't all about sex.
guess all they listen to is Mainstream shit like Queen and Beatles.

This mentality is really common amongst "classic rock" fans. Look up any popular rock song on YouTube. You will see a comment just like this, "I love this song and I'm only 15. All the other kids in school are busy listening to Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga. Modern music sucks! The 60s/70s/80s were king!!!!"

I cringe every time I see a comment like that. Not only is it really annoying, but they are so blatantly fishing for a compliment.

"You say [modern mainstream artist], I say [classic rock radio staple artist]!!"

There are times where I do think it would've been awesome to see The Beatles performing live in the 60s, but then I remember if that were the case I'd probably be a crotchety old man by now. Also, I'd prefer not to live through the Cuban Missle Crisis or be old enough to risk getting drafted for the Vietnam War.

These people are against "swagfags" and think that music went downhill in the 2000s.

Music started in 1910? I guess any music from before such as Moonlight Sonata weren't really music.

Utter bullshit. Their is good music in all eras. Taste is subjective.
Just because this era has Justin Bieber doesn't mean music today is dead. You got other musicians out there, some more obscure than others. Really, every beat, every rhythm from a song won't appeal to everyone. These "nostalgic" 90's kids should know that the era of music they listen to also had crap back then as well.

Sigh... These are the kinds of people that annoy me when it comes to musical tastes... Here's all I can say to this: "Just because I like something much more than your band of legend makes me an idiot? Huh??? Oh, fuck you and your sad excuse for taste, m8."

It doesn't help that there are people way younger than ourselves who likely think this mentality is OK, which only makes things worse.
Yeah, mentality could hurt ones appreciation of other bands. I mean, if I kept getting spammed about how great The Beatles are by these sort of people, I might just end up loathing a band that could genuinely interest me. If they really want to listen to their music, then they should really just keep the headphones on and keep to themselves, not sperg about how great The Beatles and Queen are while saying anyone who likes a song from 2011 are ignorant fools feeding the wallets and ego of Justin Bieber.

Because I don't think anyone's mentioned it yet

The comic in OP was a joke. IIRC it was created by a /b/tard to parody Redditors' lame overuse of rage comics.

Although I have conversations with my friends about "the golden age of hip hop" sometimes, I'm still discovering and buying great new music. The internet has given us unprecedented access to all kinds of music. Maybe that's what they should use it for, instead of complaining on reddit.

I know, right? A lot of people are like "the internet ruined music", but if anything, it's spurred whole fucking tons of good works.

One of my pet peeves is people who go "Well all music nowadays is full of profanity and cursing."

Ahem. Mozart's Lect Mich im Arsch, in B-flat for six voices. Composed in 1782.

Literal translation from German? "Lick me in the ass".

(edit: translation fixed)

I've seen people take the comic seriously and even seen websites make their own variations of it.
hell, even that one website, Cuanto Cabron (imagine a website where latin americans and spaniards post epic maymays) had translated it into spanish and lots of people agreed to it.

Yet another case of someone taking a fair idea and turning it batshit. I think a very good point could be made that the music industry has done some things in the past 15 years that have made music less interesting. That isn't to say that good, inventive music has stopped, just that it doesn't get the focus it should.

But to think that you should have been born in a different generation, or that the music would "die" without you... Makes you an idiot.

That's only true if you pay attention to the top 40s, which is for children. Top 40s has always and will always be crap. The reason old music seems better in retrospect is because we forget about the boring crap and only the cream remains in the public consciousness.

You're falling into the same trap that everyone over 25 falls into. It's not that "this time the kids these days really DO listen to crap".

Well, most kids really do listen to shit, but that's because most children are stupid. The smarter ones are only smart enough to say they don't like it, whether they really do or not.

IT'S CALLED CRAPCORE ,DAD! YOU JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS NEW MUSIC!
GET OUT OF MY ROOM!

Another good point to make is that defeners mainly know about famous songs by the bands they praise e.g. "Bohemian Rhapsody" "Not Afraid" what have you

Fun fact: after you hit a certain age, the tiny bones in your ears fuse together and you have difficulty hearing higher frequencies, meaning that all new music really does sound like crap! The best way around this is to listen to as many different styles of music as possible while your hearing is still at its peak, so that once your high-frequency range starts to go, your brain will recognize sound patterns and chord progressions so that you can compensate for what you're physically not hearing.

Short version: the style of music you listen to when you're young will be the style of music you listen to your entire life if you don't diversify your tastes. Have fun, 90s Kids!

Guys, Remember RyanShy?
he was the closest thing the CWCki had to a defener.
all he did in the Sammy Chatzy was sperg all day about how he lloved Metalica, Nirvana, Hot Chili Peppers and how his taste was better than evreyone else.
Me and some other guys tried to expand his taste in music, but he said it was "modern bullshit".
in the end, he got banned from the CWCki and the SCSF community for being a total sperg.

There's nothing wrong with listening to music decades old, the problem is where they declare all "modern" music to be bad and all "old" music to be good.
