For him, everything rides on this. If the consensus comes out that women and trans women are physically different, that he does have a natural physical advantage, then that championship win is meaningless. He goes from a brilliant athlete and champion of LGBT rights to a cheating misogynist.

It probably wouldn't have been such a problem if he hadn't decided to be such a colossal prick about it, but he's kicked such a stink up about it that quietly slipping into the background is no longer an option.

This failed male cyclist doesn't understand sports for someone who claims to be an athlete. There's a reason why short players having to guard taller players are universally referred to as "tough matchups" for the midgets, they are playing the game at an inherent disadvantage even if they don't concede the game from the tip off due to the physical differences they have to shoulder the burden of to try and win as a team.

Much in the same way that a woman having to guard a man with makeup on their face while tucking their dick between their legs is referred to as a "tough matchup" for the female but not for the failed man who has to play against her, regardless of heights and weight ratios between them.

Much in the same way the women who get third and second on the podium while Rhys mansplains his way above them to the center of it are racing the race at an inherent disadvantage even if they don't concede the heat from the opening gun due to the physical differences they have to shoulder the burden of to try and win as an individual.
