People have tried reporting Jimbo to local police. He lives in an area with a known problem of having a large pedophile population, police usually don't get involved thanks to the sheer volume of pedos in the area. A lot of people (including Jimbo's former roommate, if I remember right) also speculate that Jimbo's family paid off the police to get him out of trouble when his "relationship" with the little girl came to light.

My guess (and it's just a guess) is the girl's mother rented her out to Jimbo in exchange for money for her next fix. That would explain why she didn't report him and the abuse went on for several years. It was the girl's grandmother who reported him. From what he said he flat out confessed so the idea the cops were paid off isn't farfetched. There is another possibility. We know Jimbo isn't very bright. Maybe the prosecutor decided he was such an idiot that the defense could claim incompetence and didn't prosecute.

Yeah, but obviously something strange happened for Jimmy to not be in jail. A payoff is looking more likely, but it'd have to be a lot to sweep repeated child rape under the rug. I wonder if the girl's mom intimidated her into not cooperating with the police, but still, by his own account, he confessed to the cops, so why the hell wasn't he arrested?

I have a feeling the mom told her not to tell because she was concerned the father/her husband would be a suspect. Which is especially depressing considering he really did start molesting her after Jimbo was done with her.

If it's the victim I'm recalling properly from earlier in the thread, then I'm pretty certain a close family member was also involved (possibly father), and hence why the family chose to sweep the whole thing under the rug.

Yeah, that explains why she didn't cooperate, but still, according to Jimbo himself, he confessed to the rape to the cops. Even without her testimony, you have him admitting of his own free will that he committed child rape several times. Shit, apparently he asked for a janitor's job at the police station so he could support her. He wanted to marry her. Either the cops seriously dropped the ball, or (more likely), people in this thread are correct and there was some sort of payoff or legal shenanigans. I can see them getting a lawyer who argued that since Jimbo is a mid-functioning autistic, he had no idea what he was saying and the confession should be thrown out, and was prepared to make this argument at trial. The DA may have decided that the defense could create enough reasonable doubt that it wasn't worth it. A lot of DAs won't prosecute unless they're sure they can get a conviction.
