Been trying to reset for a shiny mewtwo for almost a week now and nothing. I can't quit now but I'm so frustrated.

Don't give up! Shiny hunting can be an endeavour sometimes but it can be really worth it in the end when you get what you're after. It's also good if you want to exercise patience - trust me, waiting for things irl is a lot easier when you've completed a couple of hunts.

Oh I know, its just there's not soft resetting, you have to completely reset the game, select controllers.. it gets annoying. Fast.

I started playing Explorers of Darkness again. Fun times but screw Apple Woods for various reasons

Meant to post here when I started playing Let's Go, Pikachu, but eh. I beat the Elite Four two days ago and let out a "Nnnnooooooooo" when your rival Mega Evolved his Pidgeot, like fuck that. Yet hilariously enough, my Pokémon kept dodging its attacks, so it couldn't do much, and he wasn't all that difficult as a result.

The game has pretty much given me diabetes and I'm okay with it. I'm honestly just happy they brought back Yellow mechanics, that has been a huge nostalgia trip for me (despite having played the virtual console version on my bro's 3DS lol) and it's nice they added to it, especially the numerous emotions your Pokémon will have, I would get the most laughs from Pikachu alone. The Secret Techniques were a bit weird at first (and I thought they were a shout-out to the Yellow minigames like Surfing and Flying Pikachu), but it really was nice overall that they got rid of HMs for the game so you could have a better-built team. I also enjoyed the details to the 3D world of Kanto such as the Pokémon Tower, and the changes made to some of the gyms was great. I thought Sabrina's gym would be my favorite, but holy shit Blaine's killed me, I loved it.

I'm thinking my Vileplume is my MVP of my team for basically being a fucking tank, like I didn't realize Vileplume was that bulky, I love her (though that may have been because she was like the eighth Oddish I caught looking for a female, and so she had a bit of a stat buff). Also had a bit of a challenge with Mr. Mime to try and make him work out, but I'm glad I decided to go with him.

No sign of any shinies, and I don't mind either way if I don't get one at this point. I'm thinking of trying it on Mewtwo for the hell of it, but I might not stick with it for very long lol. I'm also not planning on using my Master Ball on him for a bit, either, I want to just have fun tossing Ultra Balls and shit, see just how much more challenging he is compared to the Legendary Birds (Moltres was a pain).

Quick funny moment: My brother tried to catch the second Snorlax, but it fled from him. He didn't save prior to it. :story: It'll be hilarious if any of the Legenary Birds run as well. He also had pre-ordered the games so he got a Mew to go with Eevee, and when we looked at its height and weight, turns out his Mew's a fatty at 11 pounds.

That's actually another thing, I really like that the differences in height and weight are a regular thing, now (might've been implemented in GO, but I don't have it). It's always been a thing since Gen II with the Fishing Gurus checking your Magikarp and the like, but to see it for yourself at last is great. Been having a lot of fun with that.

Luck has struck once again! Started up a hunt on Route 4 for my new badge quest yesterday and managed to find a shiny Spearow after about 1500 encounters! 3rd gen has been hella nice to me this week it seems! He's calm natured, which isn't the best, but at least I won't have to go up against Misty with just my shiny charmeleon now!

I think they're trying super hard to make the next hit game that appeals to new and old fans alike. The problem i have with the newer games is that no matter how much I love gen 1, they spend too much God damn fucking time on it.

The mega-evolution pokemon are only really gen 1 or 3, there are a few gen 2's and 4's but not really. All the Alolan pokemon are also gen 1 pokemon. It really kind of blows when they only add a handful of new pokemon and then rely on other gens to help increase dex size.

I think the constant presence of gen 1 in all the games is what's been holding it back, the influence is always there and you can see it very clearly every game just based on the gym system and elite four. The entirely new regions stocked full of pokemon hasn't been seen since Black and white, black and white 2 they decided to add some of the old generations into the actual dex. Then in gen 6 they only added half the amount of new pokemon while adding in megas.

They desperately tried to change the formula in Sun and Moon, however they played it safe by adding the Alolans and older gen pokemon. It works because all you have to do is show off a slightly different looking vulpix and you have the old fans hook, line and sinker.

They want the first few gens a million times over and will jump at literally any game that has them, the game itself is changing for the modern age and the people full out whining about it don't see that they are being pandered to as well... it's just been the same old faces every single time.

Sun and Moon do suffer from long, boring cut scenes, and ultra sun and ultra moon are the same exact game with the same exact issues. They are trying to make a more dialogue heavy game and that's fine, but it's painfully boring for adults and I dont think they really wrote it well enough for the kids either. There are only so many Hau being hungry that even a kid can stand...

The alternate forms are trying to solve the bloated Pokedex problem. Sun and Moon didn't have room for everyone on the cartridge iirc, essentially Pokemon you transfer in from the bank are DLC essentially and that'swhy you had to wait like a month and a half to get them connected.

They are trying to slow down how many new Pokemon they introduce per Gen. And I'm fine with that. Giving old Pokemon new evolutions didn't help that really, and ruined D/P. Mega Evolutions/Aloha forms breathed some new life into old or underpowered Pokemon. And the fanbase will be a lot less angry if Ultra Beasts, Mega Evolutions, and regional forms are cut for space, than if a game is released with out full backwards roster compatibility.

And before you say Let's Go games, they found an audience with the game, and that's great. I don't want to belittle anyone's enjoyment of that game, but it's a spinoff. It's not a main series game.

It was actually due to laziness to make new dex entries for all of the older Pokemon. There is a National Dex of sorts in the coding of the Gen VII games, that keeps track of all of the species, forms, and languages of said species you've seen and owned of non-Alola Pokemon. It was also an incentive to get Bank, since Bank has the Gen VII national Pokedex in it. Also Outside of Unown and a couple of Mythicals, all of the Pokemon have been made available natively in Gen VII as of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon(as in they are able to have the Alola-born symbol on their status screen).

Also I don't see the Mega Evolutions or Alola forms getting cut anytime soon, seeing as they even appeared in Let's Go, and Ultra Beasts being cut is completely out since they are still entirely new species of Pokemon themselves with their own national dex numbers and everything. The only Pokemon they've ever cut entirely were Spiky-Earred Pichu and Cosplay Pikachu, both of which were weird alternate forms of pre-existing Pokemon that cannot evolve/breed like normal ones. They can't even be traded between other copies of HGSS and ORAS, respectively

At best I can see them cutting the Totem Pokemon that were introduced in USUM, since Battle Bond Greninja and even the Totem Pokemon that existed in the original Sun and Moon's coding can be deposited in Bank, while Cosplay Pikachu could not. Hell, even the unreleased Eternal Flower Floette that has been in the coding of the games since X and Y(and even has a unique dex entry from normal Floette in USUM) can be put in Bank safely

I think being on the Switch will probably help them be a little more creative when they're not making something absurdly safe like Go.

The 3ds was kind of struggling a teensy bit by the time of USUM.

Edit: Not constantly of course, but it's very obvious during certain scenes or during Battle Royale for example.

Holy crap just remembered since I Normally play Pokémon until I am just about asleep. Had evolution info for it on my phone so that reminded me.

Shiny Lilligant! Actually looks pretty cool too. I love how my Shiny luck has changed recently.

After finally finding a shiny mewtwo he kept recovering and timed me out... he ran away and I'm fucking ugly crying right now...

Shit! If you were Shiny Hunting for a Mewtwo, why didn't you have a Master Ball?

I better remember me some Dusk Balls tonight, those are my secret weapons for catching Shinies in one turn.

Sorry to double post but I'm kicking myself, thats what I get for shiny hunting after a long day at work.

Currently SOS chaining Mawile, as it has my favorite mega evolution. I’m hoping to chain a shiny after my last failure, but with the way it’s looking, it’s going to take a while.

Just finished Y. Didn’t enjoy it as much as Ultra Moon, but it was still a fun time. Steamrolled over the Elite Four. The steel guy was the only one who gave me any trouble - he KO’d two of my Pokemon and brought a third one down to critical health. I will admit my eyes got a bit damp when AZ’s Floette came back to him. I also managed to catch a Dunsparce for the first time ;)

I’m moving on to Alpha Sapphire now. Ruby and Sapphire were my first Pokemon games ever, so I can’t wait to replay them with updated graphics.

Got that Shiny Zubat yesterday! This one was important because Zubat was one of my only two Gen 2 Shinies, and it ended up dying quickly, since I traded it to my Gold cart which was the first to have its Save Battery go.

I saw a shiny Golbat in Soul Silver way back when, it was in the safari zone and fled before I could catch it... but let's go made it up to me all these years later by randomly encountering one!

I’ve finally mastered RNG, and got myself a shiny Mawile. Along the way, I decided to do the same for Poipole, Type: Null, and Kyogre. Yeah, yeah, people frown upon RNG, but I do plan to have these for competitive purposes. Besides, it’s not like I used anything to alter the game’s coding.
