Here's to hoping that someone will release a DVD set with the original cut of the OT.
Fuck Lucas for CGI'ing rocks into scenes and all that other ugly shit. I refuse to pay money for this kind of bullshit.

That's the beauty of the version I have. No stupid ring around the exploding Death Star.

Is there any wonder that the original Return of the Jedi runs to $200 on Amazon now?

Found this about Rey while rummaging about. A book explaining that Rey got her force powers by touching Luke's lightsaber and getting mind-rapedhacked by Kylo Ren...

Also some TLJ and Solo salt:

People often complained that the fans were too harsh on George (and they could be) but why put things in the way of the scenes? Alright fine, a stormtrooper riding around on a dewback is interesting I guess, unnecessary but interesting as long as I still have my well preserved VHS print of the unaltered versions (which I've recorded over to DVD just in case). But why put rocks and dewbacks in front of scenes? Why change Kenobi's mighty Krayt Dragon roar into a "whooping" sound? It just proves the old adage that "less is more", creativity and art thrives when limited and stressed. But looking back on that now, I'd probably take that over what Disney has done to the franchise which has violated almost every single orifice of it and leaving no redeeming factors unsoiled.

At least with George's shitty edits I could ignore them and just watch my unaltered versions or enjoy the new games, books and comics that were coming out. I'm still bummed about Battlefront 3... but not as bummed about all this fucktardery Disney's keeps slogging out where there's nothing new to enjoy or look forward to for the future and hardly anyone to talk to about the past without them bringing up how "Maz Katana" and Rey have been hinted at existing since the OT/Prequels...

Every time they put prequel, original, and sequel trilogy footage together it's just so blatant how boring the designs in the sequel trilogy is compared to past Star Wars

Dead horse but how can you be a fan of these movies and nod your head at MovieBob who ignored TFA and made up his own chain of events that lead into TLJ? In his head Rey was some super fangirl who trained for years to be like her idols instead of some lady who just found out about them like a day ago. You can't do that for things you're unaware of/thought were bullshit stories like Rey did.

That's not how sequels work. There is continuity between them, not isolated little bubbles where you can make up your own context.

I don't really like a lot of the designs of the Prequels, but most ships or vehicle look like the predecessor to something we know from the OT.
Like, it is perfectly believable that some ship or vehicle from the PT would evolve into something from the OT, even though they look completely different.
Everything, absolutely EVERYTHING, in the ST looks like it's just a repainted version of something from the OT.
Hell, between ANH and ESB, there's more variety between the designs than from ROTJ to TFA.
There's Gorilla AT-ATs, AT-STs that I don't even know whether they are any different from the OT era and black Tie Fighters and that's about it.

One of my biggest gripes with the PT is that most ships looked more futuristic in the supposedly old days of the SW setting than what we knew from later on (but, then again, during the OT, we can assume that a lot of technology has been lost or things have to be made less streamlined and more pragmatic due to the ongoing war). But at least they have very distinctive looks and by the silhouette alone, you can tell which trilogy they come from. Not so much in the PT.

That's not how sequels work. There is continuity between them, not isolated little bubbles where you can make up your own context.
Not anymore. You just slap together whatever tropes you like most and vaguely connect them within the movie you're currently making. Then you let fans and book authors sort out the ensuing chaos to come up with reasons why this mess of unconnected bullshit totally makes sense gaiz.

That wasn't directed towards LucasFilm. I meant Bob's "super fangirl Rey who trains all the time" only works if you disregard TFA and treat both movies so far as absolutely separate reimaginings. It'd be like coming out of Iron Man 2 and going "Woah, good movie." with your own made-up Iron Man origin story as if that 2 in the title is non-existent.

People who think these movies are good beyond the most superficial level (and TLJ fails at even that) are already doing some pretty major mental gymnastics so what's some more? Bob probably transitioned straight into 'TLJ shat on your headcanon and that's why you think it's bad' without missing a beat despite that.

Harmy's Despecialized Edition is a fan attempt to restore the cinematic releases while keeping it in modern high definition. It's technically piracy unless you have the blue ray copies of the modern garbage but jump through enough hoops and you'll find them.

In my opinion, it completely replicates the old VHS box set experience we had before DVD's while in a HD digital format.

Warning: If you go to official forum be prepared for audiovisual :autism: of the highest order. These autists take this shit seriously.

There's a official release in video format of the original theatrical cut of A New Hope? The one that was called simply "Star Wars" without any mentions of episodes or subtitle.

Unofficial release, yes.

There WAS an official release of the original theatrical cuts, however: 1. it was a one-off production run 2. it was a "bonus dvd" alongside one of the many special editions lucas arts has shat out over the past two decades 3. it is rare as fuck and will cost you cash MONEY 4. it is a port of the laser disk edition released in the early 90's, which includes the "Episode IV" title as well as a multitude of production errors from both the porting process and the laser disk edition itself.

To put this in perspective, the main feature of this bonus dvd was an original xbox demo of Lego Star Wars. The unaltered cinematic trilogy was no doubt just thrown in at the last minute. Still, if you are interested, here's the cheapest I found it for - $102 on ebay, "preowned."

If you think that's bad, it was eventually retconned that Captain Rex somehow survived both the Clone Wars and Rebels era and managed to be part of the group that battled on Endor in Return of the Jedi - giving him the person of a previously-unnamed gray-haired soldier.

Quote from Rex's Wookiepedia Entry (under the canon tab):
He was eventually promoted to the rank of a commander and fought in the climactic Battle of Endor, which saw the death of Emperor Palpatine, the redemption of his former Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, and the destruction of the second Death Star.

And Dave Filoni just had to have the idea, of course (also from Rex's entry):
Dave Filoni speculated that Rex might be one of the members of the Endor strike team from the 1983 film Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. "I really do think that Rex is that guy on Endor", he said, "I really do. Why else is there a bearded old guy on Endor, Tano? Why? It makes no sense. If you don't want that to happen, do you know what that means? I'm gonna make that happen, I'm getting like Palpatine, I'm getting power crazy".

Gee, Dave, it's nice to know you're willing to impose your personal headcanon on us for no other reason than to satisfy some weird personal power trip. *sigh*

Filoni is viewed as a protege of Lucas to some extent and it definitely shows.

So i brought the older Star Wars VHS in a flea market a while back and i am now wondering which version are these?
