Honestly, I just wish the salty fanboys will just come to accept that this is just a casual spinoff game and isn’t the next step for the franchise.

Hopefully getting Meltan and evolving it in Gen 8 won't be a pain in the ass.

It baffles me to see how many people are salty about this spinoff. They've outright said that Gen 8 will come out next year, and it's gonna be a proper core series game.

I'm having a ton of fun with Let's Go. Pokemon turbo-autists may ree but I really hope the Go-style catching mechanics carry on into future games.

JRPGs frequently have a problem where they get to be a drag halfway through the game if there's not something to switch up the mechanics, as you press through the same menus over and over again without any increasing technical challenge. The Persona games from 3 onward are one of the few series that address this, and I think it's a big reason why they're so popular: As soon as dungeon crawling starts to drag, you do social links for a while. As soon as that drags, you're back in the dungeon playing a JRPG.

Somewhat similarly, by making the catching and fighting mechanics distinct, Let's Go gives you a bit of a break from doing the same thing throughout the entire game.

If this game can pull in all the numbers, just imagine how much Gen VIII will sell.

I doubt gen 8 will sell as much as this, personally. There's likely a big segment of buyers who are enticed by this being a) a nostalgic remake of gen 1, b) the first Pokemon game on the switch, and c) full of cute Pikachu/Eevee shit. The next mainline game will have none of those things, and the casual audience won't be likely to go for a Pokemon game every year like it's Madden.

Popped out today to do a bit of early Christmas shopping and went into the local game shop to pick up a copy of Smash Bros. for my brother. I didn't realise it wasn't out until 7th December over here, so I started looking around at the other stuff they had and saw they had codes to get Ho-Oh and Lugia in Sun/Moon and Ultra Sun/Moon. I went up to the counter and they gave me codes for both, although which one you get depends on which game you have.

After I got home, I put the code into my Ultra Moon game and I'm now the proud owner of a level 100 Ho-Oh with a golden bottle cap. I'm really happy cos I never had Gold, Silver, Crystal or the remakes and I always wanted Ho-Oh and Lugia (I personally prefer Lugia, but I'm not complaining). It's the first Pokemon I've ever got from an event and I discovered today was the last day they were doing that event - thank goodness for early Christmas shopping.

I think I'll give the other code to my brother so he can have a Lugia (he has Sun).

I never saw the appeal of the lvl 50/100 promotional legendaries.

The best thing they did in my opinion was Dream Radar (though the game was a slob), where you could get the kami trio, and the Gen 2/4 cover legendaries at lvl 5.

I got all but Palkia, as I knew no one with Pearl, and they are in my bank. I use them as replacements for starters when I replay a game.

Word of warning to LGPE players, MTP (AKA MarioTehPlumber, known for buying 1,000+ Rosalina amiibos just to spite fans of the character and supposed perpetrator of Smash Bros. Ulimate's Grinch Leak hoax) has found out about the game and is spreading his brand of asshattery and :autism: onto Twitter.

So I spent the last few days trying for a shiny drowzee in a 140-something chain, I dont like drowzee as much but once I got over 30 the exp came rolling in and I couldn't stop until I got it. This came after a failed chain of like 18, either way my main goal was to level up my party and they went from being around level 18 and now they're like 57.

I've dusted off my Pokemon Moon. It seems to be a thing to me, whenever there's a new game out, I get thirsty in the hype and decide to play Pokemon at night again. As per usual though, I'm just egg hatching for Shiny's continuing to hope and hope with each hatch, it will be that. I've heard Masuda Method and Shiny Charm bumps the chances up to 1/560 or so, but come on! When will I get that Shiny Magikarp?

When I give up on Shiny Magikarp, which I do not plan on doing yet, I plan on putting either my Shiny Fearow or my Shiny Pelliper to try breed and make a Shiny Pikipek, since Trumbeak has a great Shiny.

The good news is I've redownloaded Pokemon Ranch so I can save my Shiny Electrode, Luxray and other Shiny Pelliper from the confides of my Wii. Just in time since the Wii will no longer work with the internet in like two months from now.

Anyway, I'm just gonna try and try to continue being patient for this Magikarp. I know Youtubers always go through 10,000s of Pokemon encounters before that one, but man I am so jealous! I want a good Shiny collection!

At least I still have that awesome Shiny Darkrai I got from Wonder Trade. Again someday soon.

I'm good with getting shinies, Im like 1 pokemon away from getting 4 solid boxes of shinies, I just got three shinies in let's go eevee. Even with the shiny charm I have not come across a single shiny in Sun, Moon, or Ultra Moon.

I was trying painfully hard for a shiny alolan vulpix back before I got my switch, for like three weeks I hatched three boxes with of vulpix a night and I legit got nothing. That was after numerous other failed breeding attempts also spanning into 3 boxes a night before I said fuck it and moved to vulpix.

I've all but given up shiny collecting in those games, I know it's supposed to be easier but it absolutely hasn't been for me.

I did bring up all my shinies, I think they're in my pokebank, I do have an extra shiny magikarp... that I got in wonder trade, its level 100 so it's 100% useless. If you just wanted a shiny magikarp you could have him lol, but your best bet, imo, is to breed it in x&y or ORAS.

I'll admit I don't like the newer games as much. I think it's partially because I'm not really part of the demographic the new ones are aiming for, partially because of how hand-holdy the new ones are and partially because I don't find the games challenging anymore (that and seeing everyone in the games have a smile on their face all the time kinda creeps me out). I'll still hold out for Gen 8/4th Gen remakes and such, but I like to stick to the older games thank you very much.

My wish came true and I ran into a Shiny Granbull AUGH YEAH

Kinda basic, and it's an ugly color but I could have lost it since it knew Roar. Lucky me!

Congrats! I always get panicky when I encounter a shiny that has a move like that, even if I've come prepared it still sets me on edge.

Speaking of shinies - is anyone here into full odds hunting? It doesn't seem to be as popular as it used to be.

The games have never been hard. Most of the difficulty in the older titles was due to shitty broken mechanics (Gen 1.) I never understood why adults care so much about the state of a series that they are not the target audience of. I lost count of the amount of times autistic 90's kids who grew up with the games act so entitled and demand Game Freak to hand tailor the games to their tastes because they were the original audience. Then when it doesn't go their way they whine.

For example graphics and story. For years people begged GF to add a more intense story and now we got it in Gen 7 these same people are suddenly backpedaling and hate that there are cinematic cutscenes. And for graphics people want to go back to 2D sprites after years of whining that GF needed to catch up and upgrade to 3D.

A part of my wishes that Matsuda would stay on the series just to spite the 90's kids.

The issue with the Gen 7 story is that there is simultaneously too much going on and yet not enough going on. Basically, the game has vast stretches of it that have jack all to do with the story and then it immediately dumps tons of exposition and plot onto you out of nowhere. It's very jarring.

As for the cutscenes, Gen 7 does have a major issue with them. Most of them are boring and are far too close together. I was playing Ultra Sun and after just finishing a cutscene with Lillie, I walked literally ten steps and triggered another cutscene. With Lillie. Why not just combine the two? The fact that your character's face is stuck in that frozen blank smile expression for 95% of them doesn't help.

IMO, Gen 5 had the best story out of the main games.

Yeah I agree. They could at least give the option to skip them. And space out the plot better too. Gen 5 had a good balance with both those aspects. I think fans should be careful with what they wish for since I've seen many with cut scenes on their wish lists of their dream Pokemon game.

I think they're trying super hard to make the next hit game that appeals to new and old fans alike. The problem i have with the newer games is that no matter how much I love gen 1, they spend too much God damn fucking time on it.

The mega-evolution pokemon are only really gen 1 or 3, there are a few gen 2's and 4's but not really. All the Alolan pokemon are also gen 1 pokemon. It really kind of blows when they only add a handful of new pokemon and then rely on other gens to help increase dex size.

I think the constant presence of gen 1 in all the games is what's been holding it back, the influence is always there and you can see it very clearly every game just based on the gym system and elite four. The entirely new regions stocked full of pokemon hasn't been seen since Black and white, black and white 2 they decided to add some of the old generations into the actual dex. Then in gen 6 they only added half the amount of new pokemon while adding in megas.

They desperately tried to change the formula in Sun and Moon, however they played it safe by adding the Alolans and older gen pokemon. It works because all you have to do is show off a slightly different looking vulpix and you have the old fans hook, line and sinker.

They want the first few gens a million times over and will jump at literally any game that has them, the game itself is changing for the modern age and the people full out whining about it don't see that they are being pandered to as well... it's just been the same old faces every single time.

Sun and Moon do suffer from long, boring cut scenes, and ultra sun and ultra moon are the same exact game with the same exact issues. They are trying to make a more dialogue heavy game and that's fine, but it's painfully boring for adults and I dont think they really wrote it well enough for the kids either. There are only so many Hau being hungry that even a kid can stand...

AUGH YEAH Just Wonder Traded in a Shiny Nincada! I knew something was not right when I saw that brown color. This is one of those cases where when it evolves, the Shedinja will also be a Shiny, right? Gonna find out soon!

Edit: Might put that Shiny Shedinja or Ninjack in the GTS, to see if I could get a different Shiny for it. Still glad to have gotten two Shinies in one though.

I would admittedly like to see more alternative forms of Pokémon. It would both give us a new set of Pokémon to mess with while at the same time not add even more new Pokémon to the list. Maybe expand to the other gens, give to alternative forms to both popular and lesser-used former Pokémon to give them a bit of time in the spotlight. Like maybe a Mawile that is Grass/Poison type instead of Steel, as more of a Venus flytrap.

I quite like the idea of new forms, but I think I'd like to see more of a balance of new pokemon and new forms. I know that there's only so many new pokemon that they could probably make, though.

Well Rowlet's playing hard to get - so I decided to switch over to hunting for Charmander on Firered and Leafgreen. Just got one today and I can assure all of you that Charmander's shiny form looks way better in 3rd gen than it does in 6th gen. It's so vibrant! I might actually turn this into a Badge Quest (which for those of you who don't know, is when you hunt for a shiny pokemon before moving onto the next gym badge) depending on how I feel.
