All of the testimonials in his favor in this thread are from other furries, a demographic which if this thread is to be believed couldn't find their way out of a room with no walls.

  1. What did you expect on a subforum dedicated to furries?
  2. That idiom don't even make no goddamn sense. Just use "paper bag" like a normal person.

Ok. I hate to appear callous or something, but I can't be the only one who doesn't buy the whole "oh he was just such a great guy and people aren't giving any clear answers because of respect and that's why nobody can find any confirmation on this guy's death or any information about him at all" theme going on in this thread. Was this a tragedy? Probably. Does this guy deserve to be ridiculed for his obvious mental problems? Obviously not. That doesn't make him a "great person". We're talking about a man who drew twisted ideological orgy comics for 17 years in the style of a children's book, whose closest friends were apparently relatively big kahunas at furry conventions. This is a man who openly saw sexual discretion and monogamy as evils, if he understood them at all.

The biggest question here is very obviously not "why would he have these false personas, how sad was he", but "what was this guy up to"? All of the testimonials in his favor in this thread are from other furries, a demographic which if this thread is to be believed couldn't find their way out of a room with no walls. If I hear a convention-regular furry say that someone's a "great guy", I leave my pets at the shelter before I let him into my house. We've got multiple posts describing weird father/son stuff as well as eerily similar cub artists, as well as a moral philosophy shared by every Inkbunny user this side of the nearest Libertarian convention. His house was full of how many computers? What the hell?

Maybe it's true and this person tragically died and his friends are just keeping it quiet out of some odd sense of respect, but there's absolutely no reason for that to be the first thing to believe. Rate me :autism: or :dumb: all you want, but something seriously smells here.

Oh, I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if they found something horrific in that mountain of computers he left behind. The Stefanescu in particular stuff gives me a bumper crop of the creeps -- it tips it over the line from "guy who obviously had a thing for cub art, but didn't want to be too open about it" to "guy who blatantly fantasized about grooming a young girl."

By all outward indications, he was a sweet guy, and I would hope that the creepiest thing he was hiding was a mental illness and a lifetime of Warner siblings incest art. I would hope that if the Dewalts knew about something more sinister, they would be open about it, because they've always been parents first and members of the furry fandom maybe third or fourth.

But you're right. We're not getting the whole story here.

All I'm reading here is "Dead furry is dead". That's good enough for me.

Me too. Though, “Trixie and Tet” apparently are trying to keep his furfag porn comics and legacy going, which sucks.

As far as I can tell there is none, all references to his passing link back to DeWalt's post about it on FA.

There definitely feels like some weird piece is missing to all of this. I wonder if people are protective of him because they did know he lived alone and was pulling a Sybil. I can't understand the logic of one of them posting under Catswhisker's account if they wanted to let dude's memory pass quietly, though I also wouldn't doubt they were behind it.

I agree; as furries are all about Internet fame, trying to promote their fandom, and promoting their “art”, I’m sure keeping that Gene Catlow brand and the lies and myths that go with it going is of utmost importance.

All that said, this is quite the puzzle.

Could you remind us of who exactly the Dewalts are? "Furry parents" is an even scarier phrase than "furry with lots of computers who died under mysterious circumstances". Are these the biological parents, and are they a biological man and woman? Have they ever brought the kids to the conventions? I'm remembering some things said in the zoosadist leaks about furry parents.

I know that you might like them personally, but sometimes that's what happens.

Can confirm, because I met them like fifteen literal years ago. Ryan and Candy Dewalt are legally married, biologically male and female respectively, and it took a couple of years of trying after they married but they are indeed the parents of their kids. I know the first kid got dressed up as the Sixth Doctor at a terrifyingly young age and hauled around to some Doctor Who convention and actually met Peter Davison, which they will be too young to remember, but hey, at least there are photos. They were friends, through Xydexx Squeakypony and gang (because Ryan originally lived on the East Coast when they met on an IRC channel he used to run called #yiffnet or some suchlike fuckery), with Uncle Kage and thus 2 Gryphon, before they moved to California and got married.

Their grossest association that I know of is with Dave Hopkins, author of the super-rapey webcomic Jack about the Rabbit Grim Reaper, and both sets of their fursonas -- Trixi and Tet and then Vinci and Arty -- were featured in that comic. As Vinci, Candy Dewalt ran her own strip called, unsurprisingly, Vinci and Arty, and drew some side arcs for Jack. The first arc with the gay couple (drawn by Hopkins) featured Vinci getting cancer because Arty was too angry at his dead, disgustingly homophobic father because that's how karma works in the fucked-up world of Jack. The second time around, the two of them were happily married and adopted a daughter and all that good stuff, and then Arty was killed saving people from a burning building or some shit, and something something guilt and Could Not Even, and Vinci killed himself (either grief or a well-timed cancer relapse, I forget), sending himself to hell because (see earlier "because" statement). Meanwhile, Arty had been promoted to an angel, but Dead Vinci originally had no memory of him because reasons, so their participation in Jack got to be satisfyingly totally fucking soap-operatic. So you had the Kill Your Gays trope (which only made things MOAR DRAMATIC), and then Candy's own strip got to do the Mood Whiplash one, from "just another day in the life of two happily married gay dudes and Arty's cast of wacky co-workers plus DONUTS ARE FUNNAY" to "Vinci has a dark and evil past that he can't explain, ever."

Ryan aka Tet/Arty/Pholph (because the Tet character is a fox/wolf = "folf") adminned the Jack server and forums. Don't know if he still does. I know the whole thing came crashing down at least once.

No, no, trust me, this doesn't have anything to do with my personal feelings on them and I'm not friends with either of them. The Dewalts are just legitimately that capillary of normalcy in the furry fandom.

They're biological parents, male and female, whose kids all go by pseudonyms on the internet to protect them. They take them to furry conventions once in a while because the kids love dressing up and seeing the giant animal people and dancing, but they watch them like hawks and I'm pretty sure the internet pseudonyms apply there too. They never draw porn, don't beg for donations, and they'll occasionally hold streams for charity. And they foster cats.

They've been around the fandom since they were teenagers, and the most common criticisms I've heard leveled against them is that they're friends with Dave Hopkins and that Candy Dewalt's art is too saccharine.

EDIT: And the whole Jack side-arc thing.

I'm not too familiar with Jack, but if I remember the badwebcomics wiki article I read years ago it was mainly religious autism rather than sexual autism. I'll have to check up on that, I've heard that it's entertaining. The few Christian furries (especially Catholic, some of the prots go in the opposite direction) I've come across have been the most resistant to the gravitational pull of the furry AIDS vortex. This is reassuring.

edit: I'm sure I just jinxed it

Ah, so my brief optimism was misplaced. They're buddies with two long-running webcomic sex weirdos. Cool.

Yeah, all this just makes me be more suspicious about what the Dewalts are up to, with Temples comics and computers and crap. All this just makes it sound like they have stuff to hide and are good at hiding it.

On topic - so, do you think the Dewalts ever introduce their oh so carefully shielded and sheltered kids to creepy Uncle Albert/Gene Catlow? After all, they were such good friends with him; was he considered part of the furry danger zone or was he allowed to be around them, his weird fetishes not withstanding?

No one had the first clue. Candy came from a bad situation and Gene was the internet friend who gave her a shoulder to cry on, served as her and Ryan's relationship cheerleader, helped her pack when she went off to be with him. She threw him the bouquet at her wedding and the kids knew him. Honestly, I think she might have been the closest, most sincere friendship he had.

By all appearances, Gene couldn't have been further from the furry danger zone. He loved his porn, but it was usually either cozy, domestic snuggle porn with him and Catswhisker or cozy, domestic snuggle porn of the Katellis clique and their spouses. I know that on one occasion, "they" all "took turns" writing out a comic where everyone gets abducted by aliens and happily take probes up the butt, and Gene takes a pass. Any weird/creepy/even slightly socially questionable kinks he had, he pushed them off on his other characters who were totally written by people who weren't him.

Well someones still paying for the hosting of K&K, unless ole Al threw some cash down to keep it going long after he died.

Do we know for sure that Gene was even his name?

I’m pretty sure Trixie and Tet/the Dewalts are funding it. Tet/Pholph/Ryan said they’d go through all Alberts computers and post all remaining Catlow cartoons so I’m sure they’ll keep it going for a while.

Looks like the domain for the Catlow comic expired a while ago. Only K&K and that weird time mouse comic are up.

Oh don’t you worry; it has weird sex shit in it. The story arc “Games We Play In Hell” was an extended rape sequence starring another furry’s Fursona Silverblue. Silverblue was, shall we say, taken aback at all of it.

Still here on Keenspot.

Really now? I never heard of that, I figured that she requested to be in it. Add that to another creepy thing Dave did, as if that chapter itself wasn't creepy enough!
