There's a few different facets of Gamergate's supporters - different ideas on the movement, as it were. None of them are really wrong, but there's plenty of disagreement and discussion. These are as follows:

The Basic:
Believes that games journalism has become too corrupt to be allowed to continue as things stand. They want sites to implement and uphold worthwhile ethics policies, they want Games sites devoting resources to actual games and not clickbaiting bullshit like what Gawker's been posting for... Fuck, a while now. Puff pieces are fine if they're at least Tangentially games related, but non-games content in Games Journalism needs to go. They want fairness in independent games development, too. Most mainstream Gamergaters fall into this category.

The Graham:
More dedicated to a concept of purification than the Basic, in that they want Gawker to burn to the fucking ground (metaphorically) in retaliation for their collusion, open corruption, and possible involvement in racketeering - and failing this, do as much economic damage as possible to Gawker at the very least, to make abundantly clear that this will never be tolerated again. The way they see it, Gawker media is the essential mouthpiece of the absolute hive of idiocy that labelled video games' entire customer-base dead during the "Gamer is Dead" salvo. They're otherwise very similar to the Basic. Most Gamergaters from the *chans and Reddit fall into this category.

The Sargon:
This version of Gamergater has learned pretty much everything they can, and realize that the biggest threat in the room is where all these toxic elements seen in this debacle have their origins - the likes of DiGRA. Gamergaters of this stripe may fall in with literally any other viewpoint, but the critical difference is that they want the source of these elements - DiGRA - and its supporters - exposed for the world to peruse above all else. Movements like it cannot survive the light of scrutiny and exposing them will mean their undoing. Most Gamergaters in this category either watch the likes of the aforementioned Sargon on youtube, or are, in and of themselves, analysts of some sort.

The Resurrectionist:
Somewhat rare. Believes all previous forms of established games journalism to be irredeemable. Advocates a much harsher version of the Graham, in that they advocate dismantling all of it outright, and focusing entirely on the "new" media that's begun to arise in the emergence of pro-consumer Youtubers like TotalBiscuit and (for the absurd) Bro Team Pill. This is not a popular stance, but they believe in it. However, they are willing to compromise and negotiate - which means that despite their viewpoint, they'll trend towards agreeing with other categories nonetheless.

The Oldschool:
An old and bitter fuck who remembers that gamers have been the mainstream media's bitch for generations and are fed up with its shit, seeing this latest uprising of anti-gamer sentiment to be nothing new - a trend that saw them abused and persecuted on a level that was hard to describe, and entirely legitimized by "the system." Remembers how gamers were blamed for Columbine, Sandy Hook, and Virginia Tech, and more-than-likely has personal experiences with such that left them with a lifetime of resentment towards those responsible. Sees this recent scandal as a reckoning three decades in the making, a glorious chance to not only push for something better - typically crossing with Basic or Graham - but to give a middle finger the size of an Imperator War Titan to the mainstream press. Gamergaters of this sort include this asshole.

The Analyst:
Involved in Gamergate not for the games, but because they don't want the likes of the Literally Whos ruining shit for everyone else via appropriating anything they can lay hands on. Often not gamers at all, but they understand the need for a strong gaming press. They're all about inclusivity, and may in fact be feminists themselves - but they could not be more different from the McIntoshes and hubristic fucks running the opposition right now. Gamergaters from this camp are often social progressives - the sort that the Anti-GGers often claim to have a monopoly on - and the likes of Based Mom.

The Veterans:
Older gents and ladies - as in, real old - as in, your parents - who see what we fight now as the natural evolution of when the mainstream press was scaremongering over communists, dirty hippies, and the counter-culture movements of the 60s and 70s. They support Gamergate not only because they know their kids play games - they do so because they see it as an extension of the same battles they fought, a generation previous. They have your back.

The #NotYourShielders:
Not directly involved with Gamergate, but sided with it because they will not be tools of the opposition. For this stance, they are vilified by the people claiming to represent them, because that's how the so-called SJWs are. They may like games as much as everyone else, but they aren't quite as on-board as the Basics are. A lot of former neutrals are in this camp.

The Counter-Insurgent:
In it to fight the so-called SJWs - any other benefits are secondary, though they love games as much as everyone else. They see this movement, which stems heavily from Tumblr, for the toxic cesspit it is, and have genuine fear that this can - and will, if not stopped - destroy everything that it comes into contact with. Their fears are grounded in reality, for although it may seem far-fetched, we already have evidence of this being the case - the bulk of the supporters of the Literally Whos are so-called SJWs, with all the negative connotations this allows, and there's previous examples - Atheism+ being the most obvious. Their biggest overlap is with the Sargon camp, but there are a number who fall in line with the Basics and Grahams.

There's a lot more than this. A fucking lot more. That's one of the beautiful things about Gamergate is that those who support it can discuss things, disagree, and learn from one another. It's a movement stronger for its differences and diversity - the exact opposite of the Anti-GGers, who view everything in black-and-white.

Make that post a new thread.

Whenever I see LW/Lifshchitz tweets, like that recent drama with Pakman, I can't help but to imagine them blowing up twitter when they break up. Considering that one of them is a SJW Tyce, it's all but guaranteed to happen. I mean, unless Lifschitz has an unlimited tolerance for her bullshit, which I admit is a possibility.
